| Posted 11/24/09 12:21 PM Our Inherent Rights Horsham, PA | The "war on drugs", then the "war on terror" and now a "war of necessity". What is so necessary? Is it our metteling with nation building, funding puppet régimes along with the opium trade? Or is it necessary to make the neo-cons happy and to pay the military industrial complex?
The answer can be found here. Exxon Mobil and conglomerates awarded contract to develop Iraq's prized oil fields. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-iraq-oil6-2009nov06,0,72 17179.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_camp aign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fnews%2Fnationworld%2Fworld+%28L.A.+Times+-+World+News%29 It is obvious what we are putting the lives of Americans at risk for and therefore I am not surprised at the increase in troops. This is criminal and we need to put an end to this! |
| Posted 11/24/09 1:18 PM smashysmashy dover, NH | It just boggles my mind that the liberal (once) anti-war protesters are so silent during this. We had anti-war protesters on a busy corner in Dover NH every single weekend during Bush. I've litterally seen them out there on a day close to -40 degrees with windchill and on a day where we got three inches of rain from the remnants of a hurricane moving through New England. But they couldn't make it back out for even one day during the Obomba administration. Makes me sick to my stomach that these people's ideals (that I thought were extremely strong) are solely based on politics. |
| Posted 11/24/09 1:39 PM Cliff Hutchison Portland, OR | I was composing a little song this morning:
34,000 more into the meat grinder Our new war president, Obama bin Biden Kill the poor, pay the rich, keep Osama hidin' Whether for or against, why are you all silent? Yeah, I know it's a bit angry, but I think it's appropriate. I was singing it aloud on the streets of hippycrite Portland today. Please pardon my ad hominem, all you true peaceniks. |
| Posted 11/24/09 1:47 PM Cliff Hutchison Portland, OR | Hey Smashy, I was writing my comment and didn't refresh the screen to see yours until I posted mine. It's a synchronistic observation, then. I guess there isn't even a regional difference between New England and the Northwest when it comes to anti-war baloney on "the left". |

Obama Bi~~~~den The FRS will continue quantitative easing, U.S. debt is going to grow, and invasions and occupations will be escalated. Can you say "game over"? |
| Posted 11/25/09 10:08 AM jdelaney3 Rochester, NY | The 34,000 is a but tentative, half-hearted attempt on Obama's part to tackle his "necessary war" and to placate both the left and right. I believe McChrystal asked for a minimum 40,000 for the US to have any hope of achieving its counterinsurgency mission. So, unless the Europeans step up and commit more troops who will do more than sit on their duffs in base camps and rely on American troops to protect their butts, the effort is doomed. Coupled with but tepid popular support at home, I can see nothing but a costly dead end in Afghanistan. The politicians want $ for domestic bread and circuses programs. Buying votes and buying off supporters at home is their game. Certainly not $ for fighting a war overseas for ANY reason.
The "pay as you fight" tax proposal emanating from Obey and his ilk is but an angry expression of the libs' opposition to spending money on anything other than social engineering. Truth is there is no need to raise taxes. Just tap the remainder of the unspent TARP funds. That'll give us at least 5 years. But, that would be too easy, too fiscally responsible. Their game is to further erode public support for the war by threatening more taxes. God, they are so frighteningly transparent. It's laughable--actually enraging--to hear them expressing concerns about spending too much as they pass a blitzkrieg of spending programs. Such hypocrites. What a circus. Can't wait to hear Amb. Elkenberry who, I believe, has already expressed his opposition to deploying more troops in Afghanistan. He and McChystal are supposed to testify before a congressional committee. How are they going to square Elkenberry's dovish stance and McChrystal's more hawkish stance? God, this Administration is a nightmarish bunch of amateurs. |
| Posted 12/01/09 3:49 PM Sungidan East Carbon, UT | Folks, all you have to do is read your Bible. Those people over there have been fighting for over 2,000 years and willbe for the next 2,000. Bring our troops home and protect our borders, that is where they are needed! |
