Anybody want to be that the solution to the budget deficits will be more accounting gimmicks by Congress and the White House to hide rather than reduce of eliminate deficits?

On the one hand they talk about deficit reduction and other the other they propose and pass huge new increases in spending which of course would be humorous if it wasn't actually happening.

We are SOL. The democrats, and I mean the voters, are not putting enough pressure on their leadership to do the right thing. If they could just man up and end a war, we would be in better shape. Nope, democrat = statist nowadays.

I disagree, I suspect the Democrats are worrying that they're going to get their clocks cleaned in the off year elections today by candidates preaching fiscal responsibility (Hoffman, Christie and McDonald) and thus have decided to ratchet up the "deficit reduction" rhetoric to counter that in preparation for the 2010 mid-terms,=,

Notice that up to this point the Democrats have been completely silent on the deficits and debt but all of a sudden they want to sound "alarms" on it? Right in the middle of trying to push a hugely expensive health care "reform" bill? come on .. who do they think they are fooling?

Good point. But will the democrat voters buy the BS? I hope not. They better wise up and go fiscal conservative and non-interventist -- we are heading full speed into a massive debt and dollar crisis.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter whether the democrat voters buy it or not, the Democratic "Base" will vote for Democrats regardless of what they do or who they decide to run. However IMHO the Democrats are painting themselves into a corner, if they talk fiscal responsibility and continue to spend like drunken sailors they'll get hammered by the independents (the voting block that counts) in 2010, if they actually do follow a path of fiscal restraint then that means the Obama agenda is dead on arrival and they risk alienating their own base (which tends to keep those voters at home instead of out at the polls on election day).

All in all the Obama Administration and his sycophantic congress is self destructing before our very eyes and it's even worse for them this time around than it was in 1993, this could be a VERY good thing for the liberty movement come 2010.

Wow, looking at that picture included in the article, I can easily tell why we are in this mess. Look at that heap of unproductive individuals all sitting around a table bantering.
Does it really require a 25-person discussion to decide that the govt needs to stop spending, fire its public employees and reduce the tax burden (invisible taxation - inflation as well) on the wealth-producing private sector?

Enlarge the picture to read the words "Daily Brief" on the dictionary sized book in front of that nerd. There is savings number 2, email the brief, I am highly doubtful 1/8th of those people actually reads that in its entirety daily.

Yep. 22 of them to lean against shovels, one to be "in charge" of planning to plan, and a watchdog to make sure no shovels are harmed in the process.

Trott out the "our team is better than yours" cheerleaders. Spending is too high, but the other team put us in this mess, so we "have" to spend more to get out of this mess. Don't worry, your kids/grandkids will pick up the tab.

The first sentence:

"The White House is beginning to send strong signals that it recognizes the $1.4 trillion budget deficit is a looming political problem that needs to be addressed"

Pretty sure the fact that they see a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit as a POLITICAL problem IS the problem.

"The president's very committed to bring down these deficits." <-- Worthy of O'Reilly's pinhead and patriots section... specifically the pinhead part.

The sad thing is he preached a change to the status quo.
Instead we get more of the same exponentially faster.

I believe that all of the anti-deficit rhetoric from Obama and his minions is for the purpose of preparing the public for introducing a value added tax. I also believe that they are miscalculating badly. The tea parties, etc., so far are nothing compared to what the people will do if that idea ever gets serious play in Congress.
