| Posted 08/24/09 9:05 PM MadtownYAL Madison, WI | This gives me a little bit of hope. Hopefully, this means that people are starting to wise up to the actions of the Fed. |
| Posted 08/24/09 10:13 PM sweetliberty San Rafael, CA | That's fantastic news! I really thought this Bloomberg suit would disappear for years under piles of legal paperwork. Wonderful decision by Chief Justice Preska, and I'm so glad the two Bloomberg folks brought the suit.
Now *this* is "hope" that could lead to "change!" |
| Posted 08/24/09 11:17 PM CV NL Doetinchem, Netherlands | Now they should sue over the legality of the Federal Reserve itself. The power to "coin money and set the value thereoff" was given by The People to the Congress, not to the FED. If you borrow your neighbour's car, you can't loan it to someone else.
I see this giving away of power to the FED as some sort of fractional reserve 'banking'; the powers loaned to the Federal government by the people have not been kept in reserve, but given to a 3rd party. ... just besides the fact that the Federal Government doesn't have the Constitutional Authority to make anything legal tender. Are these legal tendar laws ever been subjected to a lawsuit? |
| Posted 08/25/09 01:01 AM Lone Star Tex Austin, TX | I'd just be careful not to stand too near Justice Preska, or taste her food, or start her car for her... |
| Posted 08/25/09 07:25 AM USAF Rugy Lebanon, IL | Haha I was thinking the same thing Lone Star. I will remember her name and hope that she lives a long life. |

You need to hear what he said about people resisting the Fed. When congress comes back in session we need to fight harder than we ever have for 1207. |

Agreed, I was also expecting a massive explosion as I was certain that the critical mass of BS on that stage would trigger a nuclear chain reaction. You can also be certain that HR 1207 isn't going anywhere soon for even if it were by some miracle to make it the floor for a vote and then by another miracle pass both chambers of congress, the President sent a pretty clear signal that he has no intention of signing it (let alone supporting it) when he made his "INDEPENDENT Federal Reserve" comment, that's pretty clear code language for "No Fed Audit". Besides I doubt that Shifty Ben would have accepted the re-nomination if he had not recieved reassurances from the Administration that the American People would not have an opportunity to see the truth behind the Fed curtain anytime soon. That's not to say we shouldn't keep fighting for HR 1207, I think the best (realistic) outcome is to force the President to refuse sign it and thus expose the Emperors nakedness to the American People. |
| Posted 08/25/09 08:44 AM smashysmashy dover, NH | I disagree. I think HR 1207 will pass both chambers. I agree that Obama wont sign, but I have been saying this all along, I think that is the best possible outcome. If the two chambers with democratic majorities can pass it, then it will be enormous news that a democratic president vetoed it. It will inform everyone on the fed. Book sales will skyrocket. The corruption of the fed will REALLY be in the mainstream. It is IMPOSSIBLE to deny the failures of the fed; the fed's only weapon is to stay under the radar.
I fear that the all powefull fed can manipulate their books if they were audited to say "I told you so." Although it wont be instant gratification, a presidential veto is by far the most powerful outcome from 1207. |
| Posted 08/25/09 08:44 AM smashysmashy dover, NH | And as of right now, I believe that would be obama's first veto. HUGE. |

I sincerely hope you are right, however I don't see Pelosi or Reid letting the respective "Audit the Fed" bills ever reach the floor for a vote. Pelosi has already stated publicly that she doesn't care what people think of her and I doubt she bears much risk of losing re-election in her district. Reid is so unpopular in Nevada right now (i.e polls indicate that Reid would lose to Tarkanian by 11 points if the election were held today and Tarkanian only announced his candidacy for the Republican Nomination a little over 2 weeks ago) that he basically has nothing to lose with his constituents and only risks losing his party $$ support by doing something the President is against. Dr. Paul has already indicated that there is no realistic way of forcing a vote on HR 1207 in the House so I don't hold out a lot of hope it'll make it to the floor. |
| Posted 08/25/09 10:02 AM sweetliberty San Rafael, CA | jwfox1965 and smashysmashy, do either of you have a link to Obama's speech you're referring to? |
| Posted 08/25/09 10:07 AM jwfox1965 Las Vegas, NV | I actually caught the speech live this morning but here's a link a story on it:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/24/obama-nominate-fed-chairman-be rnanke-second-term/?test=health The speech itself was just the usual Obama PR BS of half-truths and factual distortion. |
| Posted 08/25/09 3:18 PM Paul Hogan Middle Village, NY | I think that HR 1207 will pass and it will be up to Obama to pass the bill or veto it. This puts him right where we want him. He'll have to make that decision with everybody watching. Although he probably has a plan to get out of that situation too. I don't even want to hear his speech. |

Do you know where there's a link to watch a video of the speech? |

I think the best thing to do right now is to focus on getting more on board, and to not worry about what the government does. Think about it: If we get a mass of people on board with this audit, and the president goes against it, it'll show the people that something is up. If Obama doesn't pass this bill, he'll create a Catch-22 for himself. If he does pass it, the government will lose its biggest power for regulation an bailouts. If he doesn't pass, the amount of people that support will realize that he's protecting someone. Either way, the government will be screwed out of the water. |
