Yep. This did it. I am usually not surprised by anything our government proposes anymore... Didn't think I ever would be; but today I am.

Good thing I can turn on the news to hear the latest MJ news and forget any of this is even happening.

Uh, my only hope is that inflation rises way faster than the cost of the penalty -- basically making the penalty worthless?

Sad when you have crazy thoughts like this to try to avoid the government forcing more and more wealth out of you.

I wonder if there is a way to make them put some numbers in the bill to show how they are coming up with these predicted costs. I am sick and tired of seeing bills that don't include the numbers that the CBO (congressional budget office) or the senators have used to make their predictions of cost. With the way our government runs anything they must not be using the correct numbers for their predictions. They have an extremely bad track record when it comes to calculating how much a program is going to cost.

I have health insurance and I pay the health insurance for my employees but I don't think that it is right for me to force someone else to spend their money a certain way. Mandating that people must spend their money a certain way is a dictatorship. The majority of our congress needs to be replaced. What makes those 535 people think that they have the right to tell 305,000,000 people that if they don't spend their money a certain way they are going to be fined or jailed? Our congress has gotten way too big for their britches.

I just heard yesterday morning that there are states starting to use the 10th amendment to say thanks but no thanks to federal healthcare. I sure hope Tennessee tries to fight it if it gets implemented. Looking at the fines, seems they're cheaper than the policy itself. I wonder how many people would opt for the fine.

If you have a # you will comply. Those who wish nothing from the federal masters will be forced to pay, or humiliated into submission of forms to have their finances scrutinized to avoid the fine. Sure as there will be a sunrise the fines will be on a sliding scale with jail time for repeat offenders guilty of not paying for mandatory health care.

This reminds me of the movie Tommy Boy. Specifically the scene where Tommy says, "I'll take a sh!t in a box and put a guarantee on it, but all you'll have is a guaranteed piece of sh!t". Well for those that wanted national health care, here you go, hope you like it.

This is unconstitutional, this amounts to a tax on existing. Simply being a citizen is not privilege and cannot be taxed as a direct unapportioned tax. Attempting to tax those who cannot afford to pay for an optional service is tyranny and despotism.

Woah I didn't know lawmakers are in the health care business. Whats next, doctors legislating new laws?

Get over it people. Just goose step on your way, give a stiff arm salute, and say "Sieg Heil."

ok, that was total sarcasm, and not in any way meant to be taken seriously. It really is frightening how quickly this country is descending into totalitarian fascism. I wonder if we can wake up enough people in time to prevent a complete state of servitude for all of us.

The fine is way less than the cost of insurance. If it costs me $12000 per year to buy insurance, why bother? Just pay the $1000 fine and accept the pain pill in lieu of an operation. The unspoken truth in all this is that federal government expects the citizen to die if they become sick. After all, the cheapest form of treatment is no treatment at all.

Does anyone know the Senate bill number for this healthcare overhaul legislation?

There is no way the U.S. Government can coerce private citizens to pay for "affordable medical coverage." Is there a national driver's license? Will a private-sector doctor refuse treatment to a private citizen not paying for "affordable medical coverage?" The U.S. Government will try to trick private citizens into paying the fine - that I'm sure of.

Think about it, the plan predicts a collection of $3.6 billion dollars per year in fines. At $1,000, thats 3.6 million people per year being fined - about 1.5% of the U.S.(geographic) population.

My guess is the bill will make changes to the Internal Revenue Code that calls for a tax on people that are involved in a taxable activity yet do not provide proof of medical insurance.

Even more reason to know the truth about the Federal Income Tax.

a re-post of my comments on FB

what the...@#$%? and i thought this was supposed to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave". these thugs are attempting to turn this country into something more like "the land of the slaves and home of the irresponsible" that can't take their own health into their own hands, run by the nanny state that knows what's best for you and their gestapo to enforce their mandates.

(...several comments were posted by friends...)

i've chosen to be uninsured for many years now. reasons: costs keep going up and they won't cover my doctor (a traditional chinese herbalist).

i've taken responsibility of my own health, getting rid of a dozen "normal" ailments by shifting from being a big-time carnivore to a vegetarian along with my doc helping "balance" me out via herbs. since i crossed the 40 yr mark, i've decided to go 2x preventively to my doc. my health is better now that it was when i was in my 20s.

the real issue has to do with being responsible or not. the mass media + government have made great strides in dumbing down and taking responsibility away from the people.

regarding health care, they've already gotten people accustomed to having $$ removed from their paycheck vs. people getting their own insurance. admitedly, i didn't really question it for the longest time either.

i should post the lyrics of "goodbye freedom, hello mom" by scatterbrain (1990). songwriters = the modern day prophets.

Mike - "I wonder if we can wake up enough people in time to prevent a complete state of servitude for all of us."

Unfortunately, I believe it will take our government approving these programs, and then having the programs miserably fail in order to wake people up.

This is why I publicly criticize these, but privately hope they get passed. It's one step closer to collapse, which is one step closer to rebuilding this nation bottom up. I have seen way to much crazy stuff coming out of our government to have any hope that average people will wake up in time to stop them.

@smashysmashy,
I sometimes wonder if we are slowing down the process of collapse by opposing such nonsense. I too, now see, that we are moving closer and closer to having the opportunity to rebuild from the bottom up. It's a natural process.

@smashy and kaptein - the only problem is who will decide what is rebuilt from the bottom up? Are we still liberty minded enough this country?

I think that's why us opposing this nonsense is a big deal, it shows that liberty IS the way. Hopefully that will encourage the masses to bring our Republic back to where it once started. GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!
