tronstevens's weblog
Hi All,
Like most of you, I've been...enlightened recently. Reading voraciously all those crazy foxes--Mises, Hayek, Rothbard, Block, Woods, Tucker, DiLorenzo, Rockwell, Bastiat, Murphy, Hoppe, Paul, etc.--we hold so dearly, I've firmly placed myself in the anarcho-capitalist camp. I am wondering: where do you fall on the libertarian spectrum? (I know, I know, labels change over time and mean different things to different people. I'm just curious for an estimate.)

ProIndividual Rutland, OH | I'm an individualist anarchist, I voted 'Something I missed?". I love that you read Tucker, please also read anything you can get your hands on about Josiah Warren, mutualism (not to suggest it is in fact the best system, just for awareness' sake), and individual sovereignty versus social contracts. Welcome to the site, the philosophy, and the ethics of individual liberty. |

iclozm Placentia, CA | Welcome to C4L. I would agree with anarcho-capitalism however I do not see liberty ever becoming that popular in my lifetime. Just as liberties have eroded over time in our Constitutional Republic, it will take years to get back to a Constitutionalists standpoint of liberty. To pave the way for anarcho-capitalism we would have to bring ourselves back to our Constitutional roots and slowly work our way to a Minarchist state.
I think it would be most prudent for all of us to fight to reclaim a Constitutional Government while seeding minarchistic overtones for future generations to think on and possibly adhere to. That would pave the way for anarcho-capitalism IMO. |

tronstevens Yonkers, NY | Thanks for the welcome, but I've actually around here sporadically for quite some time.
Proindividual: thanks for the references; I'll look them up.
iclozm: I am curious about philosophy, what our ideal worlds might looks like. The question of transition is separate, and probably much trickier, as the State has become entangled everything we do, say, hear, see, buy, etc. |

Well, folks, I monitor it so you don't have to. MSNBC has rushed out of the starting gate. Schiff is now a "psycho" according to Ed Schultz. As usual, Schultz embarrasses himself in front of anyone with half, no, an eighth of a brain.

This guy is so ignorant. I can't say anything more. I wish Schiff well; maybe he'll be able to respond.

Capten Neil Cumberland, RI | I would really like Peter Schiff debate Ed Schultz on why Schiff is a "Psycho". If Ed would actually allow Schiff to explain himself. |

justinb Oklahoma City, OK | Ed's just a loud brash man with sawdust in his head. He wouldn't stand a chance debating a doorknob, let alone Schiff. |
Posted 10/07/09
tronstevens Yonkers, NY | ...but for the fact that it's Ed's show. And the loud mouth out shouts as he spouts about even though he's without clout and is dummer than a trout |

Fozz Cockeysville, MD | Ed Schultz makes Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity look intelligent. |

ProIndividual Rutland, OH | Had to vote CNN, but it was close w/ MSNBC. The Anderson (Vanderbilt) Cooper being a CIA asset and a propaganda show host still holds the record for worst journalism ever. |

Wow, I thought Schumer's response was bad. Gillibrand's takes the cake:
_________________________ Dear Mr. _____:
Thank you for contacting my office. I am honored to serve as your United States Senator. Since we opened our doors in our Senate office at the end of January, we have been contacted more than 200,000 times by individuals from New York and across the country. In the face of this unprecedented volume and limited staffing, we are working overtime to respond to our constituents. I appreciate your patience.
Understanding your priorities is fundamental to my job and I very much appreciate hearing from you. Please be assured that we are reading your comments and opinions.
I have also been contacted by many people with matters of personal concerns. My top priority in the Senate is to provide efficient and effective constituent service to all New Yorkers. If you have written about a personal issue, it is best if you call my New York office at 212-688-6262.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views and experiences with me. I want to hear directly from you about your priorities and concerns.
For additional information and for updates on important issues being discussed in the United State Senate, please visit my website at http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter.
Sincerely yours,
Kirsten Gillibrand United States Senator

Paul Hogan Middle Village, NY | I e-mailed Senators Schumer & Gillebrand requesting that they endorse S 604 and got the same canned response. For some reason I thought you would have gotten an answer. |
Posted 09/12/09
Marc Tancer Montville, NJ | I think I'd rate Lieberman as the worst. He votes D on all issues except for foreign policy; he will vote for the largest federal government, the most spending, and the most foreign intervention in foreign policy, regardless of D or R. |

This woman is such a jerk. I wrote a wonderful letter on healthcare reform that completely refutes the reasoning for a public option (which posted here), and I got this response from her:
"Thank you for writing to me about the current state of our healthcare system. I appreciate your point of view and share many of your concerns. I believe that it is vital that we act now to bring forth health care reform solutions that will lower costs for those currently covered by private insurance, strengthen Medicare for seniors and allow every American to access quality and affordable health care.
Our healthcare system is currently badly broken. Over the last ten years, health care premium increases have far outpaced earned wages and forty-seven million Americans, including three million New Yorkers, are currently uninsured and an additional 25 million are underinsured. With our current economic situation, many Americans are losing their insurance coverage when they are laid off from their jobs. Even people who thought they were adequately covered with the health insurance they purchased later learn that they are not when facing a catastrophic diagnosis. This is unacceptable. No family should be one health care emergency away from bankruptcy. Congress must act to provide stability in the health insurance industry.
Quality care for the patient, affordability for families and small businesses, and patient choice are all important considerations in reforming our health care system. We need a plan in place that Americans will be able to afford, as well as allow them a true choice between competing health insurance plans. Having a public option, similar to a Medicare-for-all program, would create competition and result in lower health care costs across the board. If you are happy with the coverage you currently have, a public option would also allow you to keep it.
I have been a strong supporter of affordable, quality health insurance for all. I am committed to addressing this important issue and will work with my Senate colleagues on a bipartisan solution.
Thank you again for writing to express your concerns and I hope that you keep in touch with my office regarding future legislation and concerns you may have. For more information on this and other important issues, please visit my website at http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter.
Sincerely yours,
Kirsten Gillibrand
United States Senator "
That letter (clearly 'canned') was a response to a letter which specifically explained why the public option would not lower costs or provide better quality.
This woman is a nut with no interest in representing her constituents. She'd rather be a member of her party than a representative of New York. I swear I will cry if she gets re-elected. |

m00nmaster Scotch Plains, NJ | This is a disgrace. The Ed show, even without Ed, is still just as stupid and worthless.
When you have a guest on, it's so you can hear what they have to say, not shove words in their mouth and talk louder over them like a child. |
