12 Constitution supporting individuals and I visited our Congressman's (John Kline) office today to garner support for HR1207 and drop off petitions. He is a Republican that voted for the bailout, so we didn't know what to expect.
After sitting down in the meeting room with his Operations Director(Mike) and explaining why we were there, he told us that John had just signed onto the Bill! I think we were all a little shocked.
This is one more step towards our ultimate goal and I was very encouraged by the fervor of everyone there.
May we continue the fight for liberty on all fronts!
I'm a fellow defender of limited government, liberty and supporter of Ron Paul. I am running for City Council in Cottage Grove, MN and was wondering if anyone in the area is interested in passing out literature or knows someone who would like a sign in their yard.
Here is a speech I just gave at the local cable station yesterday. It will give you an idea of where I stand:
This is Tom Dippel, candidate for City Council in Cottage Grove.
As I mentioned in my viewpoint article printed in the local bulletin, we are facing very hard economic times. Although the economic outlook is bleak, we can confront these challenges by limiting our spending to necessities and eliminating all wasteful spending and pet projects. Now is not the time to be building expensive community centers or expanding any government-funded project. We must live within our means during this crucial time in history. Our state and federal Constitutions give us the principals to do these things.
It is extremely important that we understand what caused these issues and what to expect in the future so we can act wisely and avoid making mistakes. I have studied the causes of the crisis we are now in from gifted economists who predicted the problems we are facing and gave the solutions to get back on track.
First, the Federal Reserve set interest rates artificially low in an attempt to avoid small recessions over a 30 year period of time. This action distorted the free market and built momentum toward a much larger correction, exceeding the small recessions we would have faced. Many have call this major financial mess the housing and credit bubble.
Secondly, the solution to the problem will be hard, but the alternative that many in government are offering will be much worse. The alternative would mean more waste and artificial bubbles that will make the problem worse. The solution is simple. We must let the housing bubble deflate and find it’s free market value. Remember that it was artificial markets that got us here, and artificial markets that are perpetuating the problem we face.
Locally, my vision for Cottage Grove is to keep it strong through diverting all resources towards sustaining what our great city already has to offer. This includes, but is not limited to, parks, trails, roads, maintenance crews and infrastructure.
My plan brings property taxes down to their lowest possible level and puts that money back in your pocket to be used at your discretion. Whether that is for food, clothing or entertainment, it is not up to me, or any government official to tell you how your money should be spent. I respect your rights as a property owner to do what you want with your land so long as you are not infringing on another citizen’s rights. I am in favor of creating a strong business growth environment through low taxes and limited government interference.
All of these points are crucial to sustaining the city we now enjoy in these trying times.
