sunshine's weblog
I was just reading an older posting where it was suggested that we air commercials during "Lost" and "American Idol". I thought it would be fun to brainstorm ideas for the commercials.
How about we play on the drug war commercials? We show patriotism and freedom being taught in the schools. Then the subject shifts to government intervention in our lives "War...Patriot Act...Corporate Welfare...Enormous Debt" while a cocoon is being spun around the student's bodies. Suddenly, one by one several students bust out of their cocoons. A written slogan would express something like, "The government works for us; we don't have to take it. Break free...Care...Get up and do something."
Too vague, I know. But brainstorm with me.

Sundance Henderson, NV | Hello Sunshine
I watched these two videos and I think their great, they go right along with what I posted in my blog about the 14th amendment.
This is the kind of information the people need to understand to be able to over come the tyranny in Washington DC.
Take care |

This link was sent by a friend. It may seem too late, but I say, "never say die!"

It is a petition that speaks out against the so-called stimulus plan and gives a space to write comments. Please give the legislators an alternative as we know that it's their nature to want to do something. I suggested untying the hands of business with deregulation, as that is the only way to increase production.

I overheard a conversation between a census bureau employee and someone inquiring about a job helping out with the 2010 census. The employee told the inquirer that the job called for visiting homes in a particular neighborhood and entering coordinates for each home on a gps. I confirmed on their website:

In light of Real ID, I think it is very realistic to say that the government plans to use this for citizen tracking. I don't have any ideas about how to fight this, as everything I think of won't work. I'd be interested to hear your ideas, though.

Felegund Jonesville, KY | The GPS thing is a little unsettling, but my first inclination is to believe that this isn't a very large detail. THe government typically collects address information and such with the census anyway, so it's not so much being able to track citizens as consolidating this information.
Still something I don't like, but there are far worse things to worry about. |

ThePhantomPatriot Forest Hill, MD | The claimed reason for RealID: to make the country safer because only terrorists won't have RealID's. (total b.s.)
The real reason: like you said to track people. when you get pulled over the cop can swipe the barcode on the back of your license already, now think if they make it so you have to swipe your card for public transportation, entering/exiting buildings, etc. |

officer mary Goose Creek, SC | You're exactly right to be worried about this...
I'm getting to the point that anytime I see that a program is to "stop terrorists" or to aid or protect children and small animals...it's real meaning is:
Hey...stupid! The government is hiring a "no bid" contractor to force citizens, children and small animals into a long term research study that will lull you into believing that it's for your benefit...but really! Government only does things for "it's" benefit...stupid.
A deaf mute with autism could figure all of this out...what is wrong with us??? |

Much has been said about abolishing the Federal Reserve. While I agree that the Fed's policies are destroying the economy, I acknowledge that the Federal Reserve provides a valuable service as a check/EFT clearing house. If the Federal Reserve is abolished, how will we fill the void? Are there any other services that the Fed provides that are valuable to the economy? How will we meet those needs?

Smithistory Niagara Falls, NY | The Austrian School of Economics money expert Murray Rothbard: http://mises.org/story/1829 The Case for a 100 Percent Gold Dollar. I have yet to read it but I have starting reading the Case Against the Fed and I would think that Rothbard would answer those questions. |

Linger Pontotoc, MS | I don't know much about the Federal Reserve, either, but I DO know that our country did just fine before the Federal Reserve came into existence, and that from what I understand, the Fed actually goes against our Constitution. So I think we'd survive somehow, although I don't know the details of exactly HOW we'd survive. I think we just need to go back to the gold standard. That would keep inflation from occurring like it does. |

wasabe Bishop, CA | Well, I'm not an expert, but I believe that prior to the Reserve's creation everything did not run just fine. The individual banks management of citizens assets caused huge swings in the economy due to a number of factors from banks refusing to accept other banks checks to something as simple as a rumor that a bank was going under. The resulting run on the bank posed threats to other banks and the economy as a whole.
The idea of creating a central bank was to stabilize the economy and in theory, I think its a good idea. The problems begin to arise when that central bank (even as decentralized as ours it with 12 districts) has too much power. It's purpose of controlling the economy by expanding or contracting currency is certainly cause for concern. I think that if we did not have such a centralized system, we would see even more wild swings in the banking industry and the economy as a whole. We are simply too big now not to have some control measures over individual banks.
The other problem I see is with coordination. The central bank provides individual banks with the ability to easily negotiate transactions all across the country.
So in theory, I think its a good idea to have the Reserve. The problem is how to control their power.
I like linger's idea of going back to the gold standard, but I don't know that there is enough gold to make that possible. Maybe some other precious metal that could cover the net worth of all the currency. Then the Reserve could be forced to have enough on hand to cover all the currency in print. That would stop people like our current President from just printing a trillion dollars whenever he feels the need, devaluing all of our countries assets and stability, and putting our children further into debt than we already are.
Some of the board members are currently put in place by whoever the current President is. Maybe another solution would be to allow us to vote on who should be board members instead of giving that power to a position that is obviously prone to influence.
An interesting history that I found in a search can be found here:

But plenty more information can be found all over the place :) |

A point is made about the Reserve creating false bubbles by manipulating the interest rates rather than letting the market set them. This would seem like a good solution to what we have been talking about. Let the Fed do the logistical stuff like acting as a clearing house, but let the interest rate follow the market. I definitely support letting the open market determine interest rates. |
