I'm a CS senior at USC Upstate, full time IT Director of a marketing firm in Spartanburg, freelancer, Linux developer, and college sports fanatic.

You could say that I am the tip of the spear of the Internet Generation.   I do practically everything either online or with a computer in some form.  If it deals with a computer ... odds are I can do it.

My main issues are:

1) Fiscal Conservatism.    It's time to end the banking cartel otherwise known as The Federal Reserve.    The simple idea that a private bank would be allowed to issue the currency, and manipulate the interest rates, of our nation is appaling.   Congress needs to retake the responsibility it was Constitutionally given in this area.   And while we're at it, lets keep following the Constitution with the mandate that only gold and silver should be legal tender.   Fiat money lends itself to abuse, because it's far too easy for politicians to just print more to get what they want done.   Inflation is the most insidious and regressive tax known to mankind.   We should overhaul the entire US federal tax code and replace it with the Fair Tax.

2) Civil Liberties.    The real sea change since 9/11 has been the rapid evaporation of our civil liberties.   In the public hysteria over terrorism, we gave up far too many civil liberties far too easily.   Habeus corpus... gone.   The Geneva Conventions... optional.  Domestic warrantless search and seizure.   Domestic wiretapping without warrant.   The Patriot Act.   The DMCA.  And if you think this hyperbole or hysteria ... look no further than EFF vs AT&T.  Or talk to the Japanese Americans at Manzanar.   Or read about the newspaper editors under the Alien & Sedition Acts.   Or read about Eugene Debs.  Above all, we must fight to keep the internet free, open, and neutral.   It is the great equalizer, especially when it comes to education.

3) Balance of Power in the Executive Branch.   Congress, in the interests of taking a stand as infrequently as possible for relection, has simply given many of its powers to the Executive Branch.   Declaring war, issuing currency, controlling spending ... all duties of Congress largely no longer performed by Congress, with the exception of UNcontrolled spending.

4) Transparency and Accountability.    Did your Congress Critter read the Pariot Act before voting on it?   Odds are that is almost certainly no.   The Pariot Act wasn't even available on the Congressional website until mere MINUTES before the vote.   Can you read hundreds of pages of a bill in minutes?   How is this even allowed to happen?   Congress overwhelming approving bills without even reading them?   And it's not like it's a harmless bill -- that's our civil liberties they're toying with!   The Federal Government needs to be transparent from top to bottom.   Transparency means accountability.   If you screw up, or screw the public, we'll know about it.   When people fear their government there is tyranny, when government fears its people there is liberty.

5) Social tolerance.   The Values Voters have taken the GOP so far right that the party no longer represents main street America.   It's time we, as a nation, grow up and put our prejudices behind us.   That means race, sex, religion, sexual preference, and wealth.   You should have the same rights and abilities regardless of where you fall in any of the former categories.   We must also realize the war on drugs has largely been a failure.   At bare minimum, illegal marajuana is a farce, given the legality of alcohol and tobacco, which are several times more harmful and addictive.   Don't take my word for it -- take The Lancet's word for it.   (The Lancet is among the foremost medical journals in the world.)

Everybody be sure to check in on time.   Check-in closes promptly at 9:00 AM.   So please make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

At the Tea Party rally at the GOP Presidential Debate, I handed out a Questionnaire to each of the three candidates for SC GOP Chair.   Keep in mind, due entirely to time constraints on my side of things, this only gave candidates about a day to answer this thorough survey of various issues.   At this time, only Chad Connelly has responded back.   The original Questionnaire and the responses from Chad are included below.   Please check back here tonight to see if others have responded as well, or look for me at the State Convention.   I won't be quite as conspicuous as I usually am, but I will have a Georgia Tech hat, khakis, and a black button up shirt on so you should be able to find me that way.   I will linger outside the Convention Hall.   If any last minute responses came in, I will have them with me.

Hopefully this questionnaire will help people make up their minds about three candidates which are quite similar.   We intend to use this questionnaire going forward for candidates in races at all levels in South Carolina.

"Tea party targets SC Republican leaders

Several Upstate conservative groups are warming up to the idea that they need to look beyond the November election and on to replacing specific power brokers in South Carolina — and, eventually, reforming the entire system."

Apparently his three previous mailings which all got no response wasn't enough of a clue.

And yes, that's a business return envelope. He doesn't mind spending taxpayer money on banks, so I hope he won't mind spending campaign money on people who detest his voting record.

First and foremost ... a big thanks for the C4L members who setup and manned our booth at the event.   There was a huge (42"?) TV/monitor with a Campaign for Liberty logo loop on it that really grabbed attention.   The booth members ended up with a stack of signed HR1207 petitions probably 4" thick.

We are already making an impact.   The new SC GOP Chair, Karen Floyd, specifically mentioned making organizations like the Campaign for Liberty feel welcome in the party in her literature.   Several candidates are asking us for our help and support.   We even have C4L members running for major office, including Christina Jeffrey who is running against Bob Inglis for US House SC-4, and Mike Vasovski who is running against Gresham Barret for US House SC-3.   Inglis and Barret both voted for the bailout.   In addition, we had several other organizations represented from within the C4L, including the Patriotic Resistance, ROAR, the Libertarian Party, and the Constitution Party.   It was great seeing the LP and CP cooperate with us and not field candidates against strong liberty Republicans like Jim DeMint and Mark Sanford.   Thanks to Talbert Black and his band of helpers, we're also pushing to pass H3047 at the state level, which for force SC House and Senate members to have their vote recorded in nearly all important matters.   Currently, they can have a voice vote and we are thus unable to hold them accountable.   Talbert has made sure that along every stage of the way, there has been LOTS of people present to watch exactly how everybody votes on H3047, so we can hold them accountable to their constituents.   H3047, by the way, was introduced by Nikki Haley, a SC House representative running for governor.   Her campaign looks very promising and liberty minded.   Her speech at the convention was superb.

Now onto the controversy of the evening:   Lindsey Graham.   A few months ago, Lindsey Graham shot his mouth off at the Greenville County Convention, saying that Ron Paul was not the leader of the party.   Well Lindsey one-upped himself this time, also railing against libertarian principles in general.... you know, because apparently Liberty is a bad thing in his warped world.   Here is a YouTube of Lindsey's speech.   Notice that a sizeable amount of the delegates already don't like Lindsey Graham, either because they're C4L members, or they think immigration is important, or they hate bailouts, or, or, or ....

The full speech ... if you can stand it ... is here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14xKzja8KtE

Well, things were far from over after that speech.   There were several resolutions to be voted on, including one commending Lindsey Graham.   That didn't go over well.   A battle ensued over that resolution.   The chairwoman of the rules committee suspended the rules, and convention chair claimed this was not up for debate.   Somebody pointed out that you have to have a 2/3 vote to do that, and so begrudgingly they put it to a vote.   It was VERY close.   I don't think they had the 2/3.   But without a tally, without a count, the chair decided that they had 2/3.    So in order to defeat the Graham resolution, we needed to vote down the ENTIRE platform.   Then we needed to vote down the ENTIRE resolution set.   THEN we would have voted on each resolution one by one.   Most people did not understand that.   I think unquestionably if they did, we would have had the 1/3+ necessary to prevent rule suspension.  But that's OK, we made the point clear:

And for bonus points, the REAL leader of the South Carolina Republican Party spoke and gave his two cents on Senator Graham putting his foot in his mouth:

Earlier this year the Spartanburg C4L was successful in helping Rick "Ron Paul is not welcome here, the door is closed for him" Beltram get thrown out of the party.    One down, Bog Inglis and Lindsey Graham to go.

I will be at the state convention as an alternate.  I suspect I will become a full delegate, as there isn't enough controversy to motivate the full slate to attend.   Be sure to find me and say hello.   I'll be wearing my obligatory bright gold Georgia Tech polo.

The next Spartanburg County GOP meeting is in early June (June 8th IIRC).   Be sure to attend.   It will be interesting to see how things proceed and who shows up now that Beltram and company have been thrown out.

Be sure to find me at these events, especially if you're in Spartanburg County and a member of the C4L.   I have more red bracelets in stock.   First come first serve.
