I believe in freedom and liberty.

I relocated recently from Atlanta, GA via Charleston, SC to Washington DC to work for the Campaign for Liberty's national HQ.

I spent my time before this wonderful opportunity as a microbiologist working on AIDS/HIV research and Antibiotic Resistance/Bioterror. I also aided in the SC Primary and was the state interim coordinator for the Rally and such.

I am the Director of Outreach, so whatever I can do for you- please let me know!

Out of the rain.
Laying myself to dry in the suns heat.
Cleansing me
and drying these tears from my eyes.

When will this stop?
When will we demand more for ourselves?

How do we find our way back down?
To get out of what we never chose to get into?

What will it take to demand respect for one anothers lives, property, and happiness?

It kills me
Tears open my idealistic soul
And makes me that much more vigilant.

Maybe i am too in tune with the envisionment of freedom.
Maybe I care too much.
Maybe I am foolish in my empathy for those that just don't know any better.
That we can change, that anyone from any part of the spectrum can be awakened to liberty.

But this weekends events have made question that.
This in particular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akwjAjcQnqM&feature=player_embedded

Are we preaching to ourselves?
Will we ever awaken those that blindly follow orders?
Those that don't see the danger in our friends and family being in Iraq, Sommalia, Afghanistan, or Iran?
Those that watch that link and react with acceptance of those that follow lock step to the point of inflicting violence on citizens....

Will we ever change them through logic?
Through Love?
Through this idealistic heart?
This heart that carries the worlds burdens?

What can you and I do to relieve this discontent on others?
When will we unite as a force,
not to appease one side or another
not to make friends
not to water down the message for the sake of outside groups

but to do so FOR THE MOVEMENT
to do WHAT IS RIGHT.

I am in this fight for life.
I am willing to fight.
Join me.

Lets use our lives and voices to save lives- to unite others- to use conviction to help awaken others.
Lets Band together and fight these giants out to take our freedoms from us.

LET's Defend our Civil Liberties and others lives, both domestic and abroad.

These people are us transposed. Lets look out for one another. Lets fight back.

What's interesting about freedom and liberty is that the most selfish man could be defending his own liberty for his own reasons, but he'd still be defending everyone else's.

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to express to the supporters out there what we are up to here at national HQ!

Outreach is now offering two methods of contact with me for which I can send out volunteering opportunities, Internship information, and local event notifications! They are  C4LOutreach twitter and Facebook Fan Page. Please join these if you are interested in getting info on these events/opportunities!

We also just completed the first semester of our Internship Program!

We had two amazing individuals that participated in our new program; Kevin Brett and Zach Huff . Kevin is a recently graduated film student from Philadelphia, PA and Zach is a 16 year old activist from Spokane, WA. They worked with us from May to August and left with skills and knowledge that will help them to lead others in the movement.

I had the pleasure of working with these gentlemen and I must say their aid was priceless and I found myself learning a great deal from them. We here at national couldn't have asked for a better group of assistants and they proved that this program is effective and essential to the advancement of freedom through the Campaign for Liberty.

Thank you Zach and Kevin for the work, insights, and overall hope you gave to C4L. You are missed and we hope that you have taken skills from your experience here and are utilizing them in the grassroots! Also, both gentlemen will have a very strong role in our upcoming presence at CPAC 2010!

The fall semester has begun for our newest addidtion to the program; Tim Shoemaker (PA) and Angela Aronoff (CA). We see great potential in these two and can't wait to watch them blossom before our eyes! I have asked them to introduce themselves so here is a little bit about them!

Tim Shoemaker: My name is Timothy Shoemaker and this fall I'm interning with Campaign for Liberty. I've only been here for a week and already this has been an incredible learning opportunity! I'm originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and have been an active member in the grassroots since early on in the Presidential campaign.

I graduated with a degree in Political Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My main focus in politics has been to fight for a return to the strict-Constitutional government of our founding fathers, one "bound by the chains of the Constitution" rather than empowered by it. Also, I am an advocate of a non-interventionist foreign policy and would like to see a restoration of our civil liberties that have been gradually stripped away for far too long.

While I am here at Campaign for Liberty, I look forward to working with National continuing to apply pressure on Congress to pass H.R. 1207 and S. 604 (if you're in the area, join us for our Mass Action Day - Sept. 15). I also am excited about networking and meeting with more of the grassroots from across the country during my time with C4L!

You can find me on facebook

Angela Aronoff: Hi. My name is Angela and I'm one of the Fall 2009 interns for Campaign for Liberty. I graduated from George Washington University in May with a BA in Political Science and a minor in journalism, but I grew up in California.

I first became acquainted with the ideas of liberty through the "We the People" Civics program (think competitive civics) when I was in my senior year of high school. My unit was dealing with the founders (both Federalist and Antifederalists). I became extremely interested in the Antifederalists as many of their concerns would prove to be valid. This led me to my shared beliefs with Campaign for Liberty. I'm also very interested in auditing the Federal Reserve.

I'm super excited to be interning here and for the Mass Action Day coming up on September 15th (if you're in the DC/VA/MD area come join us for the petition drop). I hope to become much more articulate about our issues, less nervous about blogging, and get in touch with more of the grassroots through this experience.

join me on Facebook

I guess these are more geared towards people who work in D.C. or could take a whole semester off to work there.

I assume interns are given housing/food allowance and the such?

I felt my heart beat tonight.

Felt it forcing my blood through its chambers and redistribute.

And I felt it. In my bones- in my core. For the first time in so long. I caught myself smirk to it. As if it was a cute memory I had long forgotten.

And I lay here- in this moment drumming my heart beats- thumping moments of my life- on my chest. Why?

To remind myself of the taps.

It is the small taps through life that qualitatively define us. Aid us. Converge our lives with others. Force us to reminisce in the beauty that is life. And remind us that we are still breathing.

Still here. Still contain meaning- and dimension.

And I remember moments where I lay next to others and did this- none understanding- why Ifelt it so important to listen to their heart. To drum the revolutions of their heart.

And why I grieve each time an Aortic valve is sent to the lab. And why I am the first to speak up my desire to handle such a divine specimen.

And each grind of the tissue makes my heart cry out. Lamenting the passage of the taps that have long since faded. Someone has to miss the beats. Miss what never will be.

Life begins and life ends... but do we truly appreciate that essence while it is around?
Or do we daily rewrite our own obituary? Detailing what we have accomplished and rejecting what we have yet to?

I refuse to accept the notion that the best days are behind us. Individually and collectively.

We can change things. We can relearn the appreciation for our past symbiosis.

We can retain the essences of appreciation and love. With each small tap.

The only thing is- we have to silence ourselves long enough to hear them. You have to see them for what they are.... the essence of existence.

The small things in this world keep us going. That is- if we stop long enough to realize what is happening. To see this world, its inhabitants, and the seemingly insignifigant for what they really are.

Art. Beauty. Completeness.

And I can tell you from personal experience... never have I felt more one with another person than when we both stop to listen to one anothers heart.

There truly is something amazing about it.

We have to be that for one another also. We have to listen to one another.. we have to go back to the golden rule. Appreciate the little things in life... and not continually look for quick gratification.

If you listen close enough... everything will fit.

Thank you for waking me. And reviving the blood flow.

This life is a gift. We are all gifts to one another. We have to understand and appreciate the little things in life. The heart beats of life.

Friends, family, new conversations, a shy smile, a simple reminder of appreciation, a kind word

we have to start giving again. Not with the desire to recieve reciprocation-

But because it is right.

Because we set ourselves to a higher standard.

Because we know in our hearts its the right way to live.

Because we have a desire to give.

And above all.....

In our heart of hearts-

We know the good Will win out!

Thank you for being those gentle taps in my chest. I appreciate them more than you may ever know.

Allison

You write really well, that is really deep. I believe that life is all about connections. We are all connected in some way. Whether because we all eat and drink and breathe to survive or all are born and die, etc. And when we connect in every day life, we effect each other in ways that we may not know about or comprehend. There have been a number of strangers who have impacted my life in a mere coincidental encounter where the memory lasts still today. I really dig your blogs!

What makes us who we are?

Fatalistic impulse? A collaboration of nerves and electrical impulses? Mere flesh and bones?

Or is it our intrinsic nature?

I would argue a little dash of each.

And I didnt get it until this morning,

when I was introduced to someone without a heart.

Or at least a displaced one.

And the dented sternum that opened my eyes to yet another understanding of the form of beauty.
Can we save ourselves? Can we hide our hearts for the sake of saving face? For pride? Is my understanding of vulnerability diseased?

All questions I ponder daily.

That is until I saw the beauty of mutation.... of illness within that dented sternum.

This persons heart is displaced, nowhere near where science dictates it should be.

And as he told me of it and the residing complications of his condition.... All I could do was choke back my compassion.

Because as he spoke, I felt compelled.
Why? Do I have an understanding as to what he goes through?
The answer is no.
But take his position and extrapolate that.

How many of us have displaced hearts? How many of us left can find that beautiful beating heart where science and the world dictates for it to be?

And I love that feeling. The feeling of existence. That tingling in the chest.
And I hope I never lose that. And my idealistic perception of what living and love is.

And to the dented sternum. The altered framework of a soul. And I realized the juxtaposition of it all.

For it was a perfect fit. The whole in this chest.

It fit my cheek. But also my fist.

And that is what life is. The distorted framework of our souls and our reactions thereof.

Will we accept our perfect abnormalities? Will we cherish our vulnerability and others? Will we choose to lay our head upon someones displaced heart? Or will we react with a fist?

Is it worth the vulnerability that ensues?

Well, what does the form of beauty dictate?

I would argue that I would much rather lay my head upon a heart- and enjoy the soft taps..... wherever it may be.

You can only fight for so long.... and well- whereis the beauty in that?

That dented sternum, like the tree of a year past- woke me. And I located my own heart. Realizing it was displaced as well.

And well, it may skip beats, it may deteriorate with age, and it may cause premature death in the most beautiful of victims, but it isnt this we should focus on......

not the location, not the disease state, not the abnormailities--------

but the beauty in the fact that it still beats... that we are still alive, that no matter what state we are in- loving is still an option. caring is still an option. That we are focusing on the wrong things.

We have a heart! that is what is important, not the location or implications, but that it exists.

And we cant hide it. Which leaves us vulnerable.

You must expose your heart, appreciate it by showing it.

Because you never know when the beating will stop....

Wow, that is really deep. Well over my head. While I do not understand the workings of the heart or its placement or lack thereof. I understand love. I have always trusted my true instincts for better and for worse. My heart and head have led me down a very interesting path in life and for every mistake made, there has been a lesson to be learned to make me stronger for the coming days :)

Who are we?

What are we derived from? A heavenly form? Mere chance? Or is scientifically based?

And if it is one of the three, how will we know?

How must we decide our beginning? Our culmination into existence?

ANd most importantly----
Does it even matter?

IS how we started so important.... who we were, as opposed to how we are now?

Do people dictate their hearts through what was in someone, or what is?

Do we resonate the past or our intrinisic present?

Do we love who we were or who we have become?

I would argue that the time is now....

That who we were is a fictional story we cling to in order to explain the inconsistencies of the present.
No matter your past- it is who you are that is important... Who you exppose to others. Because that is something you can control now. You can control how you are to others now...

The past can never be rewritten, and I would argue never could based on perception-- but I digress....

all i wil say is that it is who we are, not where we have been that dictates perception.

Very thought provoking... I've often questioned those things myself, although not as poetic as you put it.

There is rarely black and white, mostly varieties of shades of gray. I think we are a combination of all of those things. Our troubled perception always makes us choose either/or, Repub/Democ, Vanilla/Chocolate. In an effort to ease our perception and loosen our judgements, we must accept the advantages/disadvantages pluses/minuses of everything, even our perception of ourselves. Free will allows you complete control of the present, as you said the ability to leave the past behind, but I would argue that since each one of us has a story that is all our own, it is unique and important in determining our future as well. Whether it is accepting those fates or working meticulously to transcend them. Booyah

"Our troubled perception always makes us choose either/or, Repub/Democ, Vanilla/Chocolate."

Though I am inclined to agree, but there isn't time for baneful existence within reality. We are all chocolate which comes in all flavors. We can't escape the reality of that. Choices aren't made from a numbered list, but through the eyes of our character. Mostly good people make mostly good choices. Flaws within our character, are stamped from environments and associations. Once we realize this and make the life-changing choices for ourselves, from our heart, and become aware, then and only then will our character rise to perform miracles.

Get-er-done
