So Rich (from C4L) and I decided to attend the Bend Tea Party meeting on March 31th at Pappy's Pizzeria in Bend Oregon. And I was quiet surprised by what I saw. Mostly the people were older. I didn't see a single person remotely close to my age. But most of these people seemed to be very genuine. They all seemed to care about their country and the direction it is headed in.
I also got a sense that most of them were just like me. For instance, one lady who had been a part of BTP for quite some time was moving to California, and they were honoring her for her services. She got up and said something to the affect that she had always been in the back, never up in the front leading everybody, but that she suddenly found herself leading protesters yelling at the capital, compelled by the direction that her country was headed.
This really reminded me of myself. Somehow I found myself grilling City Council members, Congressmen, and Senators at town hall meetings, casually blogging my efforts on C4L, and eventually being promoted to the 2nd District Coordinator on C4L! Why did this happen? What would compel me to start down this path at the age of 21 when I should be out drinking and partying? Well, I read a book by Ron Paul titled "The Revolution", that had a lot to do with it, but more importantly I saw the direction my country was headed, and my eyes became opened to the left right lie; thus I either was stupid enough, or brave enough to step up to the plate. I felt like that lady and most of these people there were just like me in that sense.
One of the things that BTP discussed was a straw poll e-mail they sent out for potential presidential candidates for 2012. This was rather discouraging, with majority votes being people like Mit Romney (inventor of Romney care), Newt Gingrich, and others. Why in the world would any concerned individual vote for these people? Haven't they exposed their intentions to us enough by their voting records? Or perhaps these people are simply voting for a mainstream Republican? Like the one whose name is familiar to them?
However I also saw two things that made me hopeful. One of my major fears with other tea party groups is that they just end up becoming shills for the Republican establishment. But at the BTP meeting they passed around a petition for Greg Walden (2nd District Congressman) and John Boehner (House Speaker), letting them know (in a nutshell), that BTP was paying attention and they weren't doing enough, or doing what they had promised the voters. This I find promising. We have to look at the politicians voting record and vote accordingly. Not by the sports team method of solely someone's party; that has got to go.
Second thing I found hopeful was a drawing for the book by Rand Paul titled, "The Tea Party Goes to Washington". Rand Paul is a great guy, son of Ron Paul (American's modern day Thomas Jefferson). And the fact that BTP would be promoting Rand's book gives me hope
Anywho, if you ever get the chance go check out BTP's website:

...and if you're in the area come to their meetings. There is a tea party they are putting on the 16th of this month go check it out:

I won't be able to go, but I'm wishing them the best of luck, and good weather.
Oh and I guess there is a BTP group trying to become active in Redmond. I hope to look forward to seeing some more freedom fighter groups active in this area besides C4L.
Take Action! Good Luck!

Paul Hogan Middle Village, NY | Thanks for the post Joel, although we all want the status quo to change overnight we need to understand that the any step in the right direction is encouraging. It's going to take time for everybody to understand that the right/left paradigm in Washington is a ruse. The true ideals of the Tea Party are gaining popularity and the last election proved that to be true. That notwithstanding, the establishment politics of Washington DC has been entrenched for decades and will take time and effort to be dislodged. |
