Terry McCall's weblog
What a difference two years makes. Liberty people got engaged. They became Delegates and Alternates. They became leaders in their BPOU's. They got behind candidates. They became part of the process and had a very large impact.
A former C4L CD Leader, David Fitsimmons, was the campaign Mgr. for the endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate. Two of our most techno savvy people wrote the Phoenix program which has become the new Voter I.D. program for the RPMN. Liberty Delegates have pushed high ranking candidates to adopt our positions on Soverignty and Austrian economics. We educated our U.S. Representatives and got them to support HF1207 "Audit the Fed". A number of our people are running for election locally, in the MN house, and in the MN Senate.
The Liberty folks are sometimes brash but always energetic, smart, and younger than the average Republican. An interesting exchange happened towards the end of the last day of the convention. K.J. McDonald, Watertown mayor, long time activist and Delegate to many GOP Nat'l Conventions was making a tribute to Evie Axedahl long time National Committee woman and all around nice lady. They had gone to GOP Nat'l Conventions together going back to 1961. As part of that remarkable discussion it was added how happy they both were to see the young people who are now so actively involved.
Evie and K.J. remarked that they were both pleased and confident that the Party they had for so long strived to improve was now in very good and capable hands. The old guard was passing the mantel to the new young people; the Liberty people, whom the party had shunned two years prior. Simply amazing. As an aside, not to 'out' him but to thank him, K.J. has long been a Ron Paul Republican. He for years strove for the possible rather than waiting on the perfect. Thank you K.J. and Evie for your service. Thank you Liberty folks for staying engaged. To quote the newly endorsed GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, "Liberty people are not just the future of Minnesota. You are the future of America."

That line was perfect, Terry. The 2010 Convention made up for the 2008 one tenfold. I found Conventions can be kind of fun when you're not being treated like a turd. :) |

Picked this up from Norann Dillon's post. A great message about the convention and our progress ....
"I like to tell people that success in politics comes from personal connections. The assumption in this statement is that you have to connect with people - and you may or may not like or agree with them. But if we are to "Restore the Republic" through the political process, that is our task.
I have been looking back at the last few days and trying to put together what happened in the real world of the convention center with what happened in the virtual world of Facebook and Twitter postings.
To the liberty people who attended the state convention, talked to the other delegates, chose a side, lobbied for their candidate, and voted for endorsements and resolutions - thank you. Thank you for taking and making the time to engage. Would we have heard "Constitution" from as many candidates as we did without you? Would there have been "Audit the Federal Reserve" planks in the platform without you? Would both governor's candidate's campaigns have wondered what was going on when we met together at 2:30am on Friday? I doubt it.
Perhaps we have become too conditioned by a world where coffee is ready by the time you drive around the corner, waving a key fob has replaced currency and the need to wait for change, and encyclopedia entries are available in the palm of one's hand in seconds. It seems like some folks expected to be able to walk into the Republican party, flip a switch and the entire structure will be ready to fight for liberty. It's clear that's unrealistic.
I know some have been fighting this fight longer than others and maybe are justifiably burnt out. Bless you and thank you for all you've done. But please don't attack or impede those of us who have picked up the standard and are carrying on the fight.
If I have learned anything over the last two years, it's that the "we versus them" approach contributed to our failure in 2008. It was like the parable of the wind versus the sun; they bet each other who is stronger and can make a traveller take off his coat. Our inexperience and energy in 2008 was the wind: it blew harder and harder, but the traveller only pulled his coat tighter around him. In 2010 and going forward, we have to be like the sun: shining brighter and growing warmer until the traveller willingly removes his coat.
Success in politics comes from personal connections. Go to your BPOU meetings. Serve in leadership. Attend the rallies and the dinners. Help a candidate or two. Meet the Vin Webers and the average Janes. And at every step of the way, educate and advocate for a Constitutionally limited government that provides fair treatment to all, not favorable treatment to a few at the expense of many."

mstebbins Excelsior, MN | Really? You're posting something here to tell people to meet the Vin Webers? I'll tell people to go google Vin Weber. I'm on the record, and people know I won't go anywhere near a campaign that involves Vin Weber. Wake up, people! |

Note: Campaign for Liberty will have a booth with the MNRLC. C4L will need volunteers for hourly shifts from 11AM to 3PM. Stop by the table. This is a great event for the Liberty minded.
Below is from the event sponsor - Minnesota Majority. Plan on attending.
"This Saturday, May 8 is the annual Tax Cut Rally, Minnesota's largest gathering of freedom-loving, fiscally responsible citizens. Last year, over 6,000 Minnesotans assembled at the state capitol to protest out-of-control government spending and taxes. This year, we are expecting an even larger crowd.
This is as family-friendly event with lots of exhibits, including the Freedom Shrine, an exhibition of copies of our nation's founding documents. Food and refreshments will also be available. This year's event is sponsored by KTLK, Minnesota Majority, Taxpayers League of Minnesota, Minnesota Free Market Institute and Walters Recycling & Refuse.
The rally will be open from 11:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m., with Jason Lewis, Michele Bachmann and other speakers addressing the audience between 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
1. Win a chance to sing the national anthem at the rally by visiting http://www.taxcutrally.com/national-anthem-contest/ 2. Let us know you're planning on attending the rally by visiting www.TaxCutRally.com . You can also volunteer to help at the rally. 3. What to give your neocon friends a dose of reality? Check out the following Rasmussen Report.
Election 2012: Barack Obama 42%, Ron Paul 41% Wednesday, April 14, 2010
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2012 /election_2012_barack_obama_42_ron_paul_41
What is even more telling is, "Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided." Let's see, C-PAC was an outlier right? And the SRLC was just a fluke! Will the scales ever drop from the eyes of the establishment?
Doug Weed gives a fine appraisal of this amazing event.
http://dougwead.wordpress.com/2010/04/14/he-can-actually-win/
Even Drudge can't help but report it. See the headline at the top of the left column... http://drudgereport.com/
Funny, I didn't hear this reported on Faux News, did you?
If the neocon political elites who call themselves 'conservatives' don't get the message then our GOP is headed for the 'dust heap' of history. The American people know more than all the 'political class' put together. What a great country!

Congratulations to MNRLC for the fine turn out of members and candidates seeking endorsement from MNRLC. Check out their site and become a member: http://rlcmn.org/ (Send dues to the MN Chapter rather than Nat'l so more $'s stay here)
Also, had a nice chat there with CD4 Candidate for U.S. House, Teresa Collett, and was very impressed. She is a strong Liberty minded conservative. Teresa is a law professor at the University of St Thomas. Of interest to us, she represented Congressman Ron Paul in his defense of the federal ban of partial-birth abortion.
No matter where you stand on abortion, support for infantcide which partial birth abortion is, can not be tolerated by people who stand for Liberty. Pre-born children deserve our protection. This is one more reason why I support Ron Paul.
If Dr Paul found that Teresa Collett was the right person to defend his position at the Supreme Court that says something. Here's hoping that you Delegates and seated Alternate Liberty folks in CD4 strongly consider casting your vote for Teresa Collett this Saturday. At the very least go to her 7AM breakfast and get to know her.
She has a great Liberty message: http://collettforcongress.com/a-message-from-teresa/
Regards,
Terry
