If you have stumbled upon my profile, perhaps for entertainment, and wonder why I would pick such a name as Status Quo Joe, it has to do with my overly pessimistic attitude towards the average American citizen. Although I love them as a person created in God's image, my pessimism and sarcasm taint my overall outlook. You see I believe America's biggest problem is the ATTITUDE of its citizenry in the workplace, the heart of production, and I usually sum this up as Quo's Laws:

These are the simple rules which I live by, spoken by my hero and idol, TheVoiceOfTheMass

1) Do nothing if possible.
2) Follow everyone else.
3) Blame everyone else.
4) Complain when things go wrong.
5) Be bitter.
6) Shirk and deny responsibility.
7) Take credit for other people's accomplishments.

Change begins within.

Quote:

Nick Rahall, chairman of the House Resources Committee, reintroduced mining reform legislation in the House of Representatives on January 27, 2009. The Congressman has obviously been away from real work for far too long. H.R. 699, the Hardrock Mining and Reclamation Act of 2009, should be labeled H.R. 666 because it appears to have been written by the Devil himself. If it passes as written, it will completely destroy an entire industry...

This raises the war on gold and silver to a whole new level.

Does this have any serious chance of passing or is this some congressman doing something on his own without any cosponsors?

Thanks for bringing attention to this legislation. It will take each and every one of us to keep track and tabs on the destruction that the elected officials are wreaking on the individual, small business, liberty and freedom. For good measure I am sending off a letter to the elected in my district to let them know that I oppose this legislationa and that they should too. Thanks again for the heads up!

In the past few months I have noticed a lot of parables/symbolism regarding socialism. Today I found this, from a peculiar source, The Twilight Zone (not the Forgotten Man episode).

At least we can't say we weren't warned Foot in mouth

Over the past few months I have been embarking on a crash course in economics trying to understand as much of the current events in our financial system as I could.

I found this video series and to my surprise it compiles so many elements of the "big" picture that I was truly impressed. I highly recommend taking the time to watch the entire series of video segments, even if you are a "pro" I think it will give you further insight into our immediate future (the next 20 years).

A friend suggested I watch this about 2 months ago, and I was impressed. This guy isn't even an economist, but as a scientist he knows how to investigate and pull sources.

This is the most comprehensive educational tool I've seen. The course is totally non-partisan and doesn't alienate anybody.

I actually came to this movement because I became aware that the official statistics provided by the government had been manipulated; the chapter on fuzzy statistics had me cheering. This is a must-see compilation starting at the very beginning and carefully tying all the parts together.

The thing about this series is that the thesis is not all that controversial and the conclusions are (IMO) impossible to refute. The data is gathered meticulously.

Thanks for the link! A very useful primer to understand how the (3) E's (Economy, Energy & Environment) intertwine. It includes an explanation of one the most difficult principles to understand: exponential growth!

I'm especially impressed with the narrator's attitude. He portrays himself as ecstatic to be living within these times...what may prove to be historically trying for the human society...while refraining to be judgemental about the policies that has led us to where we are today. Indeed, as much as we need courage & motivation & an open-mind to understand & solve our problems today...keeping our optimism in the years to come will be a rare treasure indeed!

I wonder if part of the $700 billion bailout didn't include a hidden agenda for tax breaks for major banks that used the bailout money to purchase smaller banks and write off their losses? The article linked summarizes these suspicions.

I think that maybe the senator from Iowa is asking for some backup from concerned citizens. Anyone in Iowa feel like faxing the senator on the Finance Committee?
