Until very recently I was a registered Republican, but due to the ineptness of the two major parties, I had to renounce the party of which I have been a member most of my life. When I made my decision, I went to the Circuit Clerks office and I was told that there was no need to change my party in Arkansas because it didn't matter. I told them I did not want to be counted as a member of the Republican Party and they finally let me change.

It is sad that the party I believe in has changed so much in such a short time frame. And, even sadder, it was changing without me paying attention. I bought into the party line over the last eight years and even became a bit of a warmonger along with most people in the GOP. September 11, 2001 clouded my vision of what is right and what is wrong.

I served in the U.S. Army under President Bill Clinton and seeing attack after attack on our country was infuriating me. The first attack on the World Trade Center was a little before I entered the Army. The attack on two of our embassies in Africa occurred while I was in AIT. That morning we were all told we were now preparing for war. As time went by, nothing was happening, so many of us were becoming disgruntled by our nation's lack of response. Our drill sergeants were starting to bad-mouth President Clinton until one day the word came down that no one was to publicly criticize Clinton over our lack of response. That told me that as a soldier, I was not meant to think for myself.

I watched Clinton lead us into a disaster in Somalia. Then he led us into Bosnia to stop the genocide, but if we really cared about genocide, where were we in Rwanda? Do we only care about genocide in Europe?

The year 2000 came along and I was excited to vote my governor into the Presidency. I felt Bush was a good governor and I liked his message of no nation building and smaller government, but then came 911. I, like most of America, wanted retribution for what had happened and I felt good about our response in Afghanistan. I welcomed a president standing up for us.

Then, I sat by my television and watched as a man I really looked up to was making a case for war in Iraq. I believed everything that General Powell said that day and I was ready for war with Iraq. Is it any wonder General Powell endorsed Obama, when he had bee sent to the slaughter by Bush, Cheney and Rummy?

Well, I started paying attention to Dr. Paul in the debates and I just laughed him off for a while. Then I started watching interviews with him and I bought a couple of his books and my eyes started to open. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on since then. Hell, I even skipped my surprise birthday party (I knew about it) to go see Dr. Paul speak in Branson, MO and it was well worth it. I am now a Libertarian, but it is the Campaign for Liberty in which I believe.

I was just sitting in my living room watching CPAC on Fox News. It was hard for me to continue watching after many of the people in attendance showed how little class they have by booing Ron Paul's name when he was listed in the straw poll results, but I forced myself to continue. I can understand disagreeing with Dr. Paul's ideas, but you should show him respect. If I lived in Dr. Paul's district, I would view that as a direct insult to me. They booed the man that those fine people in Texas keep electing. They were booing the millions of people in the United States that believe in the message that Dr. Paul gives us. They booed the hope that we feel for the future and they booed the pride that we feel in our founders. Many of the people at CPAC booed us! And, they should feel ashamed.

Now I'll move on. I had to get that little diatribe out of the way before I could continue typing. They had my blood boiling a bit at first, but I'm not going to hold someone's ignorance against them. I will just try to show them the light when I can.

So, next up was Rush the Great, who I'm guessing is running for president now. I know he hasn't announced anything, but that looked like a preparatory speech. The crowd's reaction to him was like watching Nancy Pelosi during Obama's speech. They couldn't wait to jump up for him. The sheep do tend to like their shepherd. He makes their life easy by taking away the need for thought. He takes away the need to question and everyone loves to have their life simplified - everyone except a few of us that value thought, the few that value our ability to question what we have been told.

While listening to Rush, I had to think of all the times he supported George W. Bush over the last eight years. Actually, I was doing far more thinking than listening to his speech. That thinking caused me to miss at least twenty opportunities to jump up, scream and wave my arms, but oh well. What are you going to do? Rush blindly supported Bush's war against Iraq. I have heard too many people refer to the war as the war in Iraq. It was the war against Iraq. We dismantled their government when they posed no threat to us. That went against so much history in the Republican Party. My party is the party that finds ways out wars, but Mr. GOP (Rush) doesn't see it that way. He would follow a Republican president into the depths of hell for a drink and never question the man's sanity. That kind of loyalty to any group is dangerous.

The most insane thing over the last several years to me is how little was made of the establishment of a new cabinet level post, Homeland Security. I might be entirely off-base with my thoughts, but isn't the Department of Defense our department in charge of protecting our homeland? If we truly have a need for the Department of Homeland Security, then we need to change the signs at the Pentagon to say Department of War or even better, the Department of Offense.

This millennium has started out with so much insanity in our government. I don't even care to talk or write anything more about the Patriot Act. I can't even believe that document is law in my country. They need to take it back out, and maybe Dr. Paul will have the ability to bring this before Congress. They need to just add three little words to the end of the Patriot Act, "And Jefferson wept!"

That being said, I know that we have our sheep in the Revolution as well, but every movement has people that are just along for the ride -- every bandwagon has some hangers-on. We all need to identify these people in our own circles and help them to see the light, and by light I mean we need to help them to think for themselves. I'm the first to admit that I don't always agree with Dr. Ron Paul, but I do tend to agree with him more than not. The world is not a perfect place, and there are no perfect people to vote for. I am the only person that has my views 100%. Dr. Paul is up there with me, but I'd estimate him at 80-85%.

I feel it is important to acknowledge that no one is perfect. I also feel it is important to respect people that have differing views. I see disrespect being shown to our leaders way too often. I see it on blogs about Obama and I hear it on a daily basis in regards to Hillary Clinton. I don't share many views with either one of them, but I will show them respect unless they disrespect me personally.
