WHY I JOINED THE CAMPAIGN FOR LIBERTY

I like many of you went to college, graduated got married to a college graduate and set off on life's journey toward prosperity and happiness. My wife and I brought three children into the world, bought a house and did everything we've been conditioned to do throughout our youth. Buy a home it's the lifeblood of a successful financial future we were told. All I've ever wanted was to provide a better future for my children and aid to maturity. It is my hope by the time they get to maturity I've done a good enough job equipping them with the skills they need to succeed.

I am a high school teacher and my wife is a registered nurse. I went to a very liberal university and voted Democrat since I was eligible to vote, and voted three straight times for Democratic Presidents (Gore, Kerry, Obama)

When I was attending college I was under the assumption of "Clinton balanced the budget and did a good job, Ill just vote Democratic to keep things going the way they are."

Then Bush got elected, ran up the budget and deficit all the while trampling on the Constitutional rights of ALL Americans. Therefore I was very fervent in my WANT for Obama to win the Presidency, as I put it just a few days ago, "I was justifying my choices by saying that Bush did such a terrible job that we should give the other guys a try"

Now just short weeks into his Presidency I realize that the Democrats in power are only going to exacerbate the problem and unless some sound minded economists lead the way for him I fear we are going to fall farther down this deep hole into a full scale massive depression.

Here I was in the late winter of 2009 (Feb-March), at risk of losing my job, costs of everyday materials going through the roof and a house that lost 110k in value since I purchased it. We have never been late on a payment; we didn't get an adjustable rate or a reverse amortization loan. We financed the house with a fixed rate.

So a few weeks ago I started thinking..."I've been responsible my entire life with the choices I've made. Yes some have been wrong, but I've owned up to those mistakes and have always done my best to take care of my family." So I thought, if I've done everything I could to make this work then where is the problem? Why can't I "get ahead" in a household with two college educated wage earners? In my search for answers I started listening to different messages to see which ones had merit. With my search I eventually ended up here, because I thought to myself, "I must raise and provide for my children. The government cannot do it; they are inept and only making matters worse. I can provide for my family IF I wasn't forced to give control of my future over to the government. It is not the government's responsibility to raise my children that is MINE and my WIFE's. Why won't the government simply get out of the way?"

To make matters even worse still the government won't OWN up to its own problems. Obama proposes a hazardous budget, the Fed continues to inflate the money supply and those "tax breaks" that were supposed to come....if they ever do come, will only then be surrendered back to the government in any one of the myriad of schemes they use to continue the gravy train rolling to pay for all their "project" while honest hardworking Americans suffer. If you want to talk about tax breaks, how about eliminating the IRS?

How long can we let this continue? Our government has hijacked our future and that of our children and grandchildren. Therefore I joined the Campaign for Liberty precisely for that reason. So I can actually give my children and all our children the future they deserve, one where the constitution and the basic freedom of all Americans is cherished by our government; and where we can truly be a FREE REPUBLIC.

An ATF officer stops at a ranch in Montana , and talks with an old
rancher.  He tells the rancher, 'I need to inspect your ranch for
illegally grown drugs.  The old rancher says, 'Okay, but do not go in
that field over there.' The ATF officer verbally explodes saying,
'Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me.'
Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the farmer.  'See this badge?   This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish...on any land.   No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear?   Do you understand?' The old rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores.  A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the ATF officer running for his life chased close behind by the rancher's prize bull.
With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems
likely that he'll get "horned" before he reaches safety.  The officer is
clearly terrified.  The old rancher throws down his tools, runs to the
fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... 'Your badge!   Show him your
badge!!

Signs we carried at the St. Louis Tea Party:
"WHAT would the FOUNDERS SAY?" (me)
"Don't Mortgage the FUTURE" (one of my teenagers)
"SAVE the CONSTITUTION for ME" (another of my teenagers)

I believe signs with POTUS image and labels like socialism, socialist, etc. (though applicable) turn the discussion away from the "great ideas" and into "our guy versus your guy" or "our team vs. your team." This seemed to happen in St. Louis, on a small scale with some of the spectators, and I thought it was a shame, though it didn't seem too big a part of the main picture. It could derail the message, though.

I teach high school U.S. History and American Government. Ever since I have been reading about the words of Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty it has been hard for me to continue to teach in the same way that I taught before. I cannot simply regurgitate the textbook to the students. I see so many contradictions with what the book says and what our country really stands for.

As an example I just covered the U.S. Congress in my government class. Of course one whole chapter in the Congress unit is on legislation. Here is where I couldn't take it anymore becuase the topics included among many things the budget and the Federal Reserve. Then it just all came out. I told my students about how there was the Austrian School of Economics and then there were the Keynsians, and how the two groups differed. The ironic thing is that MORE students were interested in hear this information than they were if I was just talking about stuff in the book.

I already know some changes I will make for next year. First of all I will completely reconsider the way I cover the Great Depression, and I know for a fact I will spend alot more time on the Constitution.

Now I posed a question to my class this week. I asked them this simple question....

If you could ONLY choose one, which would you rather have, would you rather have FREEDOM or would you rather have EQUALITY. In light of our current state of affiars, I know it can become much more convoluted than that very quickly, but when you get to the roots of the problem its FREEDOM vs. EQUALITY. I did not elaborate. I just wanted them to digest the two concepts and give me an answer. After a few minutes I polled the class.

My total was as follows:

Freedom - 91

Equality - 8

Now if I would have asked, who do you want to be President Obama or McCain, Im guessing it would have been something like 70-29 for Obama. I know McCain doesnt believe the same stuff as our organization but hes closer than BHO.

So for whats its worth, based on simply concepts FREEDOM trumps EQUALITY 11 to 1.

I am struggling to break into the federally controlled education system, myself. Like you, I am most interested in teaching 11th grade United States history. There is no higher calling than to serve one's community, especially where that service includes raising the community's youth to grow up to be responsible, sensible, well-adjusted adults prepared for the real world.

But it is so discouraging! Your example illustrates the problem succinctly: everyone with any sense knows children are not STUPID. But the TV their parents sit them down in front of in lieu of real child-rearing screams at them 24/7 about the Nanny State and how Big Brother will save them from themselves. To compete with that kind of media is daunting to say the least.

Next year, ask your question on the first day of class and then teach as you intend to, incorporating the principles of Life, Liberty and Property into your lectures to counteract the nonsense from the textbook. Consider the possibility of bringing your own texts to school for the children to consult, even if you can't get out of checking out copies of the Education Department's mandated propaganda to the class. Then, at the end of the school year, give them the quiz again and see how the numbers have changed.

I just got out of the public education system. I hope you'll forgive me that I'm not looking to go back in on any side. Not that great with teaching.

That said, well done. Nice to see the political system's power checked, even if it's only a little thing.

You are the man! I have yet to pose this question with my gov't kids. I plan on it next week. It is all about freedom as we have discussed. Either you have choice or the government substitutes their judgement for yours. Hopefully enough young people will get it before it really is too late!

Now granted I do not know much about the candidates in this race at the time, but I think this is a ringing endorsement for Barry's politics to this point.
