An ATF officer stops at a ranch in Montana , and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, 'I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs. The old rancher says, 'Okay, but do not go in that field over there.' The ATF officer verbally explodes saying, 'Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me.' Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the farmer. 'See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish...on any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?' The old rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores. A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the ATF officer running for his life chased close behind by the rancher's prize bull. With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get "horned" before he reaches safety. The officer is clearly terrified. The old rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... 'Your badge! Show him your badge!!

We the People…are now owned by the Chinese.
You can’t borrow prosperity
Socialism is slavery
No taxation without deliberation
Give me liberty or give me debt!
You can’t spend your way out of debt
$3.6 Trillion – Now that’s a lot of change!
Save trees, stop printing money
See what happens when you give a junior senator a credit card?
Socialism is not an American value
Wall Street got a bailout and all I got was the bill
TARP = $750 Billion
Stimulus = $870 Billion
2009 Deficit = $1.75 Trillion
U.S. Dollar = WORTHLESS!!
Just Say No (word “Socialism” with circle and slash)
Liberty is all the stimulus we need
You keep your Change, and I’ll keep mine
No to American Socialism
You can’t spend your way out of debt..
Bailouts + Debt = fiscal child abuse
Stop Spending, Start Cutting
Why don’t you cut my taxes instead?
Let the markets work
Stop rewarding failure.
Save the children – stop spending their money
Give me liberty or give me debt.
Who will bail out the government?..
USSA
We the people want our money back
Freedom – A stimulus we can afford

Signs we carried at the St. Louis Tea Party:
"WHAT would the FOUNDERS SAY?" (me)
"Don't Mortgage the FUTURE" (one of my teenagers)
"SAVE the CONSTITUTION for ME" (another of my teenagers)
I believe signs with POTUS image and labels like socialism, socialist, etc. (though applicable) turn the discussion away from the "great ideas" and into "our guy versus your guy" or "our team vs. your team." This seemed to happen in St. Louis, on a small scale with some of the spectators, and I thought it was a shame, though it didn't seem too big a part of the main picture. It could derail the message, though.

I teach high school U.S. History and American Government. Ever since I have been reading about the words of Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty it has been hard for me to continue to teach in the same way that I taught before. I cannot simply regurgitate the textbook to the students. I see so many contradictions with what the book says and what our country really stands for.
As an example I just covered the U.S. Congress in my government class. Of course one whole chapter in the Congress unit is on legislation. Here is where I couldn't take it anymore becuase the topics included among many things the budget and the Federal Reserve. Then it just all came out. I told my students about how there was the Austrian School of Economics and then there were the Keynsians, and how the two groups differed. The ironic thing is that MORE students were interested in hear this information than they were if I was just talking about stuff in the book.
I already know some changes I will make for next year. First of all I will completely reconsider the way I cover the Great Depression, and I know for a fact I will spend alot more time on the Constitution.
Now I posed a question to my class this week. I asked them this simple question....
If you could ONLY choose one, which would you rather have, would you rather have FREEDOM or would you rather have EQUALITY. In light of our current state of affiars, I know it can become much more convoluted than that very quickly, but when you get to the roots of the problem its FREEDOM vs. EQUALITY. I did not elaborate. I just wanted them to digest the two concepts and give me an answer. After a few minutes I polled the class.
My total was as follows:
Freedom - 91
Equality - 8
Now if I would have asked, who do you want to be President Obama or McCain, Im guessing it would have been something like 70-29 for Obama. I know McCain doesnt believe the same stuff as our organization but hes closer than BHO.
So for whats its worth, based on simply concepts FREEDOM trumps EQUALITY 11 to 1.

Michael Mallon Houston, TX | I am struggling to break into the federally controlled education system, myself. Like you, I am most interested in teaching 11th grade United States history. There is no higher calling than to serve one's community, especially where that service includes raising the community's youth to grow up to be responsible, sensible, well-adjusted adults prepared for the real world.
But it is so discouraging! Your example illustrates the problem succinctly: everyone with any sense knows children are not STUPID. But the TV their parents sit them down in front of in lieu of real child-rearing screams at them 24/7 about the Nanny State and how Big Brother will save them from themselves. To compete with that kind of media is daunting to say the least.
Next year, ask your question on the first day of class and then teach as you intend to, incorporating the principles of Life, Liberty and Property into your lectures to counteract the nonsense from the textbook. Consider the possibility of bringing your own texts to school for the children to consult, even if you can't get out of checking out copies of the Education Department's mandated propaganda to the class. Then, at the end of the school year, give them the quiz again and see how the numbers have changed. |

Felegund Jonesville, KY | I just got out of the public education system. I hope you'll forgive me that I'm not looking to go back in on any side. Not that great with teaching.
That said, well done. Nice to see the political system's power checked, even if it's only a little thing. |

SporttracAZ Gilbert, AZ | You are the man! I have yet to pose this question with my gov't kids. I plan on it next week. It is all about freedom as we have discussed. Either you have choice or the government substitutes their judgement for yours. Hopefully enough young people will get it before it really is too late! |
