LauraEbke's weblog
For the last couple of months, a number of us had trouble receiving daily updates, and as such we've probably used the great resource that is the Campaign for Liberty site far less than we might otherwise.
I received my first daily update in a long time today! And I realized just how long it had been since anything had been posted here. I will be working to remedying that, and I hope regional and county coordinators will do the same!
Many of you are on our state mailing list. If you're not, but would like to be, just click over to the Nebraska Campaign for Liberty website, and input your e-mail address into the "Join Our EMail list" box.
We have a small group of volunteers who are actively following what's going on in the Nebraska Legislature this session, and we'll be sure to let you know when we need YOUR help in influencing your senator. If you'd like to jump on and help us follow the legislature, just e-mail me, and I'll get you on our group discussion list.

LauraEbke Crete, NE | It would appear that the Daily Updates are still showing up rather sporadically. If YOU are getting them, please let us know in the comment section here. |

We are reaching a point where we are considering having a statewide meeting for all Campaign for Liberty members and folks who might be interested in becoming members. Would you come? What would you like to see us talk about? Would you bring friends? Where should we have it?
One thought is to have it a little closer to central Nebraska, to ease the driving time for folks out west--say in Grand Island or Kearney. Would you come? Leave comments, and answer the poll, please!
Poll: Which weekend day in late August or into September would be best for a meeting?

JFeldman Kearney, NE | Okay, it looks like Saturday August 22nd then? Should we vote on a venue, or maybe take the eight that voted and just figure the most central place between their homes? Let's get a little more detailed so that we can begin the process of finding a place... |

LauraEbke Crete, NE | Josh, e-mail me in the next few days, and we'll talk about this--August the 22nd is probably o.k.--although it's only one weekend after the Republican Liberty Caucus meeting in Aurora, which will involve a lot of our members, as well. Let me mull this over a bit. |

rdc569 Bellevue, NE | Has there been a decision on this yet? I'll be home in August and I can't wait to start getting involved. |

I'm trying to figure out which of the conferences to go to this spring/summer, and would like to go to the one where the most Nebraskans are going to be--so that we can meet up there and talk.
So, please answer the poll below to help me figure out where the best place to be is. Answer quickly--the St. Louis Conference is at the end of this month.

The fight to rid ourselves of the scourge of Obamacare is taking place on many fronts. The national Campaign for Liberty has its program, aimed at ending the mandate. At least 20 states have joined lawsuits to have Obamacare declared unconstitutional.
A number of pieces of state legislation around the country, including one recently introduced by Sen. Beau McCoy of Omaha, LB 219, attempt to amputate pieces of Obamacare in their states.
And then, there are the truly daring efforts, like the one introduced in the Nebraska Unicameral today--LB 515--by Sen. Mark Christensen, which seeks to completely nullify Obamacare, on 10th Amendment grounds. Sen. Christensen's legislation is at least partially in response to Operation Nullification Education which the Nebraska Campaign for Liberty initiated late last summer, providing a copy of Thomas Woods' book Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century to each member of the legislature. Following the distribution of the books, I was able to meet with a few members of the legislature, and Sen. Christensen showed great interest in what we were doing. I provided him with some model legislation developed by the Tenth Amendment Center, and it appears that he took it and ran with it in this instance.
We will be maintaining contact with Sen. Christensen as this bill moves through the process, and will keep in touch with our members when we need their help to persuade our legislators to take a stand.
Nullification would not have been necessarily my first choice in strategies to get rid of Obamacare...and it may not be the best strategy. However, the circumstances are dire, and the threat to freedom is so great, that those of us who fight for liberty have--I believe--an obligation to fight it on every front available to them. Only through a multidimensional effort will we have any real chance of ridding ourselves of this threat to liberty.
