LBoles's weblog
This morning, Matt, Doug, Aaron and I met with Rep. Roskam at his office. We delivered I believe around 400 petition signatures in total -- way to go DuPage and District 6. I'm sure Matt or Doug will be posting an even better blog entry with a final petition count plus pictures and/or video.
Rep. Roskam was very gracious and I really felt the meeting was a great success. He has asked for some time to research and gather some reviews of HR1207 and will get back to us in 30 days. We of course hope for the "sooner the better". We plan to keep up the pressure with calls, letters and more petition signatures during the next 30 days. I really do think that he's taking us seriously and will give HR1207 due consideration. So while I can't yet call Roskam a co-sponsor, I think we've make significant progress on him today!

Justin Kapacinskas Elgin, IL | His constituents need to get back to him in 30 days on election day if he needs time to think about such a simple bill. |

Robert Schlereth Lake Zurich, IL | Keep the pressure on him. I have a friend in his distrist that always asks Roskam how his "Ron Paul" factor is when my friend sees him. |

My secret weapon...my husband's bowling league!
Someone mentioned this idea on a recent C4L conference call (sorry I don't know who it was to credit) and I thought, hrm not a bad idea. So after plenty of excercise walking my neighborhood with limited success, I grabbed my clipboard and headed out to the bowling alley!
I was amazed at how relatively easy it was to get signatures, this really does work wonders. During the league, people are generally sitting down at a nice little table waiting for the teammates to finish their frames. It was suprisingly easy to stop by their table, introduce myself and the petition and ask for their support. Then while they're signing, the teammate comes back and invariably says "what are you signing?" and you quickly repeat the information on the bill and get their signature as well.
Remember to be polite and move on quickly if they're not interested in hearing about your petition. I'd say that happened maybe 5-10% of the time. Most everyone was VERY receptive and a few were conveniently influenced by the 'well he's doing it, what the hell' mentality. Also consider printing out petitions for nearby surrounding districts - some people travel quite a ways to bowl with their friends. I missed out on a few signatures because the person wasn't part of my congressman's district.

I just got home from visiting Peter Roskam's office to show our support for HR1207. We had 4 adults and 2 children make it out, which isn't bad considering short notice and most people having to work.
When we arrived we spoke to Kitty Weiner (her business card says Disitrict Representative) since Rep. Roskam is in Washington. I let her know we were from Campaign for Liberty, delievered our petition and let her know that we were there in support of HR1207. She immediately said that they've been getting lots of calls regarding HR1207 today - so YAY we've got their ATTENTION!
A huge Thank You to those that made it out and everyone who has taken the time to call in and support this important legislation. Keep up the great work!
We're still gathering petition signatures because we're setting up a meeting with Rep. Roskam directly - so if you haven't already sign the petition and ask your friends, family and neighbors to sign too. UPDATE: We have a meeting setup this FRIDAY May 1 - so we need all the signatures we can get in the next 3 days. If you have a petition with signatures, please contact me and we'll arrange to get it before Friday's meeting!
We'd also love to see you at our next DuPage meeting on May 6th.

jcesarone Chicago, IL | That's great that you showed up today and can follow it up with a meeting with Roskam on Friday - the old one-two punch. Has he said anything at all yet regarding HR 1207? Hopefully by Friday he'll already be a cosponsor so you can use the occasion to say "thank-you"! |

When: Tuesday April 27 - 1pm Where: Peter Roskam District Office 150 S. Bloomingdale Road, Suite 200 Bloomingdale, IL 60108
HR1207 is an important piece of legistlation introduced by Rep. Ron Paul that calls for an Audit of the Federal Reserve. So far we have not had an indication from Rep. Roskam in support of HR1207.
As a part of the Campaign for Liberty - Mass Action Day, we'll be meeting up at the Bloomindale office for Rep. Roskam at 1p Tuesday. While this is very last minute, we're hoping that some people will be able to take a late lunch and stop by to show your support. If you're bringing your petitions, please make a copy of them before dropping them off. If you would like a copy of the petition you can find it at Petition
Everyone is welcome, friends, neighbors and co-workers - anyone who would appreciates liberty and wants better accountability in the Federal Reserve. I'd like to get an idea of who's coming, so if you think you can make it tomorrow, please let me know by email or cell so I know how many to expect!
Thanks in advance! Lynn Boles Regional Coordinator District 6 Campaign for Liberty his247@yahoo.com 630-440-7076 cell

Doug.Bach Wheaton, IL | Thanks for leading this, Lynn. Be sure to let us know how it goes! Sorry I couldn't make it, but I did call Roskam's office today. |

Firehawk Hanover Park, IL | I'm a little surprised at Roskam not being a Co-sponser of 1207 as of yet. He was one fo the few people that voted against the Bailouts both times...Ive sent him a few letters regarding 1207, but all I got was a letter in the mail, it seemed to be a general mailer that probably goes out from his office to anybody that writes him saying "he would take my feelings under advisement".

I thought I'd pass on this information I received from one of my Meetup contacts (thanks Richard).
Michael Badnarik (2004 Libertarian Presidential Candidate, Author, Speaker) announced that he will be presenting his eight-hour class on the Constitution on December 20th from 9:00am to 6:00pm at the Lincoln Restaurant. Registration is $100 at: http://constitutionpreservation.org/
4008 N Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60618 (773) 248-1820
I'll have house guests for the holidays then, so I won't be able to attend. However... I just finished watching a previous class on a collection of YouTube videos. I have to say this class is pretty amazing. It is a little slow to get started, but hang in there past the 10 minute mark. It's opened my eyes to a lot of things that I just never considered before. I especially latched on to his ideas about Rights vs. Priveledges. I recommend checking out one or the other. Richard has an easy to navigate play list for the YouTube version at http://rickflosi.blogspot.com/2008/04/michael-badnariks-constitution-class.html
