Work as if you lived in the early days of a better nation

- Alasdair Gray, who was apparently a socialist so no one tell him that I took his quote...

I'm Kevin "Yeaux" Dupuy (better known as Kevin Yeaux), the Sixth District Regional Co-coordinator (hey, we could've made the title longer, so don't complain!) for the Louisiana Campaign for Liberty. I'm also the producer and host of Yeaux in the Morning, a morning show broadcast every weekday at YeauxInTheMorning.com, as well as a junior at Brusly High School.

My goal here at the Campaign is... well, to be honest, I'm only here because I was told there'd be food. Where's the food? Anyway, while we wait on that, my real goals for the district is to increase the membership (including activating the current members who aren't currently active) and continuing to host more events and spread our message even further.

Hey, where's the food?

Mary LandrieuIn the middle of the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the fight over ObamaCare, it's easy to overlook the fact that the last remaining holdout on S.604 from Louisiana had finally co-sponsored the bill... and I, for one, did.

According to GovTrack.us, Senator Mary Landrieu co-sponsored Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders' bill to audit the Federal Reserve system on December 18th, 2009. After months of prodding, thousands of petitions, and several rallies by the Louisiana Campaign for Liberty and other liberty-minded organizations, the third-term senator became the last member of the Louisiana congressional delegation to co-sponsor either Audit the Fed bills, H.R.1207 or S.604.

I, for one, congratulate Senator Landrieu for finally understanding what her civic duty is and what her constituency wants. Now, about that healthcare thing...

As a nation, we need to be honest with ourselves: we're broke. Sorry. No debt ceiling increase, no tax increase, and no spending increase will fix that problem. Liberals and fake conservatives can try and say that a $14 trillion deficit is "manageable", it's not. Stop lying.

Our credit rating is worthless, "AAA" doesn't mean much when the only way we can pay our bills is to borrow more or devalue our Dollar. We're the most unsustainable large economy on earth by our deficit spending alone. You want to save our "pristine" image? Cut seriously. Bring the troops home, demand every dollar not yet payed back from bailouts (and don't believe that it's all paid back... we lost billions on Chrysler alone). President Obama says he wants spending cuts, yet in three years he's showed no sign of wanting to cut anything except the Republican's ability to control Congress (and in that he failed). The GOP is no better, aside from their fiscally liberal President Bush inheriting a surplus and ending with a massive deficit, no one in GOP leadership wants to cut the program that MUST be slashed to make any real change in our budget: the Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Pakistan. While the libertarian/Tea Party wing has helped somewhat, the leadership's still not there.

On taxes: taxes supress the economy. Plain and simple. They take money out of circulation and put it in government where it is almost always put to less efficient use. If wealthy people feel that they want to "contribute" more to the Federal Government,  you can make a contribution to the Treasury if you'd like. Not raising taxes in one of the highest taxed nations (counting state and local taxes) isn't about "loving rich people", it's about wanting to have a workable economy. Our economy is strong, even during the worst of the recession. I hated John McCain, but he was absolutely right when he said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". It's the government that's too big.

There's no easy way out... it's our parents and their older generations that got us into this mess and we're going to have to pay for it. I believe our generation, who will begin to populate Congress in about fifteen to twenty years, will be a better, more responsible group because we know what irresponsibility can do to a nation. In the meantime, how about the generation that got us into this mess grow a pair and deal with the fallout of their actions, instead of dumping it on their kids?

Several members of Louisiana Campaign for Liberty's Sixth District were at the Tax Day rally held by our good friends at the Baton Rouge Tea Party. We were on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol, handing out information and talking to folks about Dr. Paul's new bill, End the Mandate, in between speakers.

Several folks showed up with Ron Paul signs and many more came with End the Fed-related signs. Together we reached a good audience and the reception was overall very positive. We gave out a lot of flyers, all of which have links back to C4L.com, and signed up a few new members to the local C4L. Thanks to Rishi Vyas and James Lewis for coming out and handing out End the Mandate flyers, and Connie Bernard and her husband for bring the Ron Paul signs!

See our Flickr page for more photos!
