In the fall of 2007 I got politically excited about Ron Paul, and now I am thrilled that the momentum can continue through the Campaign for Liberty. There is so much we can accomplish on a grassroots level.  I did not get involved until January of 2008, when I went to a Shelby County GOP Executive Committe planning retreat when Marcelo called & asked me.  Fast forward several months, and I am now the Shelby County Coordinator.  Please contact me any time with suggestions, comments, or questions.  At the time I am posting this, I am new at this, so I am open to any advice!

About me: I am 26. I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, but my family moved to Pelham, AL (in the Birmingham area) in 1989 (so I grew up in Pelham). I have worked at Driver's Way in Pelham, AL since graduating from the University of Montevallo in 2005. I purchased my own house in Alabaster in January of 2007.

My boyfriend of 7 years is James (Jimi) Lee, V, who is starting a CPAP machine/ sleep apnea accessory business (called Neighborhood CPAP and Sleep Apnea Superstore) in Pelham. He ran for Alabama State House of Representatives, District 49 (part of Shelby County and much of Bibb County), but came in third place (out of 4 candidates).  We have a cat named Apollonia / Skitty. When I'm not working late or at any number of political meetings, I am usually at home playing Nintendo Wii or watching television with Jimi.

Hello all,

I think last night's quarterly meeting went well. There were more people attending than I thought there might be. Thanks to everyone who came!

The 2 candidates for U.S. House, District 6, Paul Lambert and Dr. Stan Cook, were very well-spoken. It's exciting to have people running for public office who are willing to stand up for Liberty. Just having more folks run starts a dialog and sheds more light on the cause.

Since Marcelo is now the C4L state coordinator, I will be the county coordinator. Please let me know if there is anything in particular that you guys would like to do or to see accomplished in Shelby County!

Don't forget that we have another meeting on June 18th - Meet the Candidates.  State Representative Cam Ward is scheduled to speak!  The venue is tentatively Neighborhood CPAP again.  However, I'm not sure how many people will show up, so the location is still a little bit in the air.  Please look out for an announcement with more information.

Last night Zan discussed the origins of the Rainy Day Patriots and the Birmingham Tea Parties.  The Tax Day Tea Party in April was wildly successful.  There will be another Tea Party on July 4, 2009 at the Verizon Wireless Music Center.  Look for another post with more information in the future, or go to rainydaypatriots.org.  We would like to sell T-shirts with our logo on them to raise a little money.  In April we homemade them; we will look into this more thoroughly as the event comes closer.

Last night Cathy suggested a get-together with drinks & discussion. Not an official meeting, but more casual. Would anyone be interested in attending, & possibly bringing a friend? Would 2 weeks from now work, let's say about 7:30 on Thursday, June 11, 2009? Is that a good night for everyone? What do you think about having it at On Tap at Hwy. 280? Or do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you!
Jesie
