I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

"I am an enemy to vice and a friend to virtue. I am of an extensive charity and a great forgiver of private injuries; a hearty lover of the clergy and all good men, and a mortal enemy to arbitrary government and unlimited power..." Silence Dogood

It is seldom mentioned that along with the banks taking over our government they also have taken over our Churches. The phrase, "Separation of Church and State" has been used so often that the true meaning of the First Amendment has been lost. This phrase has become the mantra of every left wing and atheist group, repeated so often most people assume the phrase is in our Constitution. The Constitution reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

With the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment there was a direct violation of the first amendment but this was not used until the churches started organizing in the early '50s. The Churches were silenced with tax-exempt status. In the 1950s the church clergy and members started pointing out our move toward Socialism and the loss of values and morals. The church bodies started recommending candidates who would vote along ethical, moral and fundamental policies as opposed to forced Federal and Socialistic policies instituted by the Federal government. When Church sponsered canditates started running in the majority of elections the tax code was changed in 1954 to put an end to the churches participation, the church could no longer endorse candidates.

Most religious organizations are not entirely disagreeable with this situation. They continue to grow and voice little opposition to the Federal governments candidates, lest the Church should lose, not only their tax-exempt status, but be punished by the IRS for past years if they should speak out in favor of moral candidates. In fact, what is the incentive for a church to voice opposition? When the Church in its non-traditional role is enhanced and making money to boot. The Church traditionally would provide, with the assistance of local government, for those in the community who could no longer work because of illness or infirmity or fell on hard times. Now we have a federal government agency to take care of those things.

The Church fulfilled a part of our society in that they were the conscience of the nation. Social organizations. They were the Socialists, distinctly separate from our government. The heads of the Church and the congregation knew who the honorable men among them were. These leaders of men were put forth into positions of leadership. By silencing the voices of the church many of our leaders have been silenced. Can the nation return to greatness when it violates that most precious right granted in the First Amendment?

The Church, not as burdened with the role it once played in the nation, are free to further their rightful Socialist ways. Indulging in helping others by engaging their efforts in other parts of the world instead of at home, where the role of the church has been taken over by the Federal government. The churches profit from this and do what they have always done, helping the needs of others. If you don't believe in helping your neighbor or tithing, the government has taken that option away. If you work, you will help your neighbor and pay a tithe to the government, taxes and social security.

By the government and the Church practicing Socialism is it any wonder we have programs that make the United States and under-developed nations, which the Church operates in, more Socialist? The Churches role was to be our conscience. Now the Federal Government is our conscience and your left with no choice but to be involved. Your tax dollars are being spent all around the world to feed the hungry. Dictators who distribute the aid and food take the credit for their population's relief by controlling those humanitarian supplies.

What would a United States be like if the Churches were allowed to function as the role of conscience and their constitutional rights guaranteed? Would we have a more moral government? Don't see how it could get much worse. Would there still be graft and corruption? Yes. I doubt it could be worse. Would a third party candidate who has only faith in himself as opposed to one with faith in a higher power be an improvement over the hypocrites in there now? We'd like to think so but what proof is there that the person isn't as self serving as those he intends to replace, if all he believes in is self interest? There is no track record.

It will take transformation of thinking to turn our endeavor into fruition. The schools and churches were infiltrated by the banking welfare/warfare Collectivists and it is up to us to infiltrate them and take them back. Restoring the voice of the church will make it easier to spot our next corps of leaders. Or, we could wait and see if they pass the fire test when they get elected and offered all that is imaginable. That has worked out well so far, with the notable exception of Dr. Paul and very few others. Rare men indeed.

All our Constitutional rights should be restored. That includes the voices within the religious community who have been forbidden to speak out on behalf of candidates. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce can recommend candidates. UAW, SEIU, pick a group, their rights to free speech are protected. Should not the free speech of the those who were once considered the most honorable in our society be protected as well?

You type very eloquently James! When you look at the majority of Christians, at least the ones spotlighted in the mainstream media, it paints a very dark picture of Christians. Very prowar, anti-gay, etc. In other words they want to control other people based on their own beliefs. How is that not any different from what the government does to us?

If there were a lot of Christians that actually cared about their neighbor, Dr. Paul would've been elected president! I have met many Christian(mostly military) families, and a lot of them are very ignorant about MANY issues and they don't seem to care. They're too busy going to church, taking care of the baby, or watching CNN on the brainwashing tube.

Maybe it's about time not just Christians but people of every religion sit and do nothing but critical thinking at least once a week. No offense to Christianity as a whole. I see it as a complete mind trap and very limiting to the self.

At any rate I believe that instead of giving the churches more power, or more of a voice, my approach would be to completely overhaul the way people worship or "get into spiritual mode". Meditation is one of the best! This would promote change because people would finally be using that thing in their skull!

Not content with killing woman and children in ID and TX the ATFE has taken up watching weapons sales to drug cartels. http://www.publicintegrity.org/articles/entry/2976/

Who knows how many have been killed with the 1500 semi-auto and .50 cal weapons but you can be sure the honest gun owners of America were put to the blame.

Just like all the other bureaucratic nightmares, including 9-11, no doubt there won't be any action taken but the promotion of the offending parties to ones of greater responsibility.

Today a vote to suspend and pass was taken to allow the Patriot act provisions to continue and of those Republicans elected on limited government platforms only 26 could be found to follow the Constitution in regards to restoring our rights not to be deemed terrorists, searched and arrested.

Those who voted Yea to extend these unconstitutional provisions must be held accountable.
