On the heels of the release of his new book, The Tea Party goes to Washington, Senator Rand Paul made his first trip to Iowa last Friday and Saturday.  Enthusiasm was high, as Senator Paul was warmly received all across Iowa.

The Senator's first stop was to the Republican Party of Iowa headquarters to meet with party leaders, including chairman Matt Strawn.

Friday night, Dr. Paul gave a speech on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  The next morning was filled with media interviews and a book signing at Iowa State University in Ames.  Supporters lined up for a personalized copy of The Tea Party goes to Washington.

After the drive back to Des Moines, the Senator addressed the State Convention of the Iowa Federation of College Republicans, then went to the Capitol for a private meeting with Iowa Governor Terry Branstad.

The afternoon included another book signing event in West Des Moines and meetings with several of Iowa's top conservative leaders.

On Saturday night, Senator Paul was the featured speaker at the Iowa GOP's "Night of the Rising Stars" event.  This event celebrates Iowa's newly-elected Republicans and was the perfect place to showcase America's newest Rising Star - Senator Rand Paul!  An enthusiastic crowd of nearly 500 high-profile Iowa Republicans greeted the Senator.  Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley gave Dr. Paul a warm introduction.  Feedback after the speech has ranged from excitement to amazement as Iowans had their first chance to hear directly from Senator Paul.

C-SPAN was there, and full video of Senator Paul's keynote address (and introduction by Senator Grassley) can be seen at this link.

Senator Paul's Iowa visit was widely covered by the media.  Check out some of the coverage:

He was also mentioned on the radio Monday morning, one of the most popular radio stations in Des Moines. It was just during their brief daily news segment, but it was the first thing mentioned & it made me happy. :) It said that one of the Pauls would be running for President, either Rand or Ron. :) At the end of Rand's speech Saturday night, when he told us to make sure we pick the right person, I just figured he meant his dad. But I might be biased. :)

Vic Lockman is a former Disney cartoonist who actually created some of the Disney characters. He went on to use his illustrative talents to produce compelling educational comics. One of my favorites has always been "The Official Counterfeiter", which is now out of print. Although it was written over 40 years ago, apart from the huge increase in the debt numbers today, it is still an amazingly clear and convincing presentation of the principles of sound economics and the official counterfeiter, the Federal Reserve.

Mr. Lockman graciously gave his permission for me to digitize "The Official Counterfeiter" since I felt it to be such a powerful tool to help practically anyone understand the destructive and immoral influence of the Federal Reserve System.

Mr. Lockman writes from a Biblical perspective, so this is particularly appropriate for evangelical Christians who do not fully understand Ron Paul's preoccupation with the Fed. However, the Christian perspective does not detract from the economic education that anyone will receive from this little gem.

I have placed a PDF and a page-turning flash version (swf) online. They are both free to download and distribute. I think they would be especially useful to give to evangelical Christians in Iowa, South Carolina, etc., but, again, anyone can learn from this creation of Vic Lockman.

Download either or both versions here, and spread the word if you like it:

Here's a great timeout for you.  Even people who don't claim to be fans of rap can appreciate the medium when it's carrying our message.

I was lucky enough to get the day off work and made county delegate, county platform committee, and county central committee. On the platform, I didn't want to drag the discussion out since there was only one of me but I did get our Iowa GOP plank 3-12 End the Fed into the county platform and provoked a great discussion of monetary policy. I tried to write Rep. Sorenson's Iowa Gun Owners' bill into the platform but our sheriff objected to it and it got voted down. Both the sheriff and our State Rep., while opposing the measure, urged me to bring it up for discussion at the county level.

So how'd everyone else do?

Iowa Campaign For Liberty member Dave Davidson (a.k.a. TEApublican) is one of the featured writers at The Iowa Republican.com.  He published an important piece Saturday about Time magazine picking Ben Bernanke as its "person of the year".

Here's a highlight:

This year take a new year's resolution TEApublican style. Learn the truth! Don't drink the cool aid when it comes to digesting lies about our country and men like Ben Bernake.

If you want to learn more about the real Ben Bernake start at sites like CampaignForLiberty.com...

Nice job, Dave!  You can read the article and the comments at this link.
