In my most recent post, I quoted Cathie Adams' response on the question of supporting all Republicans in November, including those who voted for the bailout. This was my response to her. (Note that I do not mention Senator Hutchison, only because she is not up for re-election this time around.)
"Cathie - I must respectfully disagree with your assessment of the situation. It would have been better if this had happened before the primaries so that we could have voted for fellow-Republicans over the incumbents who have sold us out. However, that is not the case and we must play the hand we are dealt.
Thankfully, my congressman, John Carter, voted no both times the bailout package came before the house. However, Senator John Cornyn has failed us as Texans and as Americans in a most dastardly way. He does not deserve to keep his job as our representative. It breaks my heart, but as I told his office the day after his vote, I cannot in good conscience vote for him again this November. Instead, I will actively campaign against him and let all of my family, friends, and neighbors know what a traitor he is to this once great nation of ours. It is our duty to remove him from office at the ballot box, whether he has an (R) after his name or not. He has shown his true colors and his willingness to ignore the will of the people. When any representative fails to do the will of the people, it is time to go.
Likewise, Senator John McCain had a chance to show his 'maverick' spirit and should have challenged the administration and the Fed, exposing the bailout as the most anti-American, unconstitutional, power grabbing piece of legislation ever seen in this country. I will not go against my principles and vote for these people who have enslaved my children and their children. Republican or no, they must go.
I will remain active in our local Republican party and will work to find true Republicans, worthy of the name, to support in future races. I had thoughts of abandoning my position with the WilCo YR's and my efforts to become a Precinct Chair. However, I believe that leaders don't quit, they lead."

Lillian Round Rock, TX | In the past I have received requests to support all Republican candidates as a group, including those who sell us out. This has turned me off. We should only support the good guys. |

herefishy Austin, TX | John Cornyn is not worthy of associatation with the Republican, nor is Kay Hutchison.
Even though John managed to hang on to his seat, he should be ostracized within the RP. I am certainly no fan.
Since Kay has demonstrated that she has no inclincation of the role of the Federal Government, I cannot expect her to have inkling of state level bureaucracy. Though the Governor of Texas is one of the weakest political offices in the country, she has not proven to me to be worthy in consideration of her performance in the US Senate, relative to the Nationalization of the Banks in particular.
I AM THE REPUBLICAN - I determine if you are worthy of my vote.

In response to a friend's letter to our SREC members and our National Committeeman and Committeewoman asking if party support would still be given to those Republicans who voted for the bailout and listing the specific platform planks violated, our Nat'l Committeewoman had some interesting comments. She posted this on a Facebook entry, so I assume it's fair game to quote her. Her name is Cathie Adams, and this is what she had to say about the situation:
"I plan to talk about the promises made in our new platform and conclude that we need government REFORM that NEVER ALLOWS another government/business partnership that DISALLOWS failure, ie Fannie & Freddie. During WWII, when government/business merged it was called fascism. Do we think as Americans that we have advanced so much that we can now make it work to run banks or to build roads? Let us NOT be so pompous! I'm VERY PROUD of Congressman Jeb Hensarling's attempts to bring business sense to this crisis and surely hope that WHEN McCain-Palin are elected that they will embrace his ideas that were rejected by the current administration and obviously by the majority in both houses of Congress. Let's THANK all those Congressmen who voted NO.
I'm disgusted too, but as we look at the political landscape, we have to decide what is best for our country in the long term. We cannot make the mistake of saying that NONE of the above is acceptable, because the lowest common denominator will win every time we do that. My conscience cannot sit by and let that happen; I want to do whatever I can to make a positive difference, even if it is incremental and small.
A vote for a 3rd party candidate OR for none of the above will hand the election to a Muslim Marxist. I can't stand by and let that happen to my grandchildren on my watch.
Be encouraged! God is still sovereign. Instead of being discouraged, we must PRAY that God will grant us His continuing MERCY and GRACE, rather than the WRATH that we deserve."

hrdman2luv Malakoff, TX | I hear that voting for a 3rd party is a waisted vote. And that you have to vote for the lesser of two evils. And my responce, I can't wait to waste my vote. And that voting for the lesser of two evils, is like walking through the snow barefotted, and then wondering why you caught a cold.
