Since the national government is elected through the Constitution, sworn to uphold the Constitution and derives it's power from the Constitution, but fails to uphold the Constitution nor governs from the powers enumerated in the Constitution, is the national government a legitimate representative of the people?

Poll: Is the national government a legititmate representative of the people?

yes, this is just cicular logic
no, but it is for the courts to decide
no, but the government has the power of the gun, legitimate or otherwise
yes, the constitution is just a living document and democracy is all that matters
no, but the people really do not care as long as they have a X-Box and I-pod
yes, the government is legitimate but their policies are not
no, and I am prepared to suffer whatever consequences come with disobedience

Although civil disobedience may be the only way left in the future, right now we need to stay alive and out of prison to organize, educate our fellow countrymen and actively participate in politics. Remember we need to be as gentle as a dove and as wise as the serpent. Meek does not mean weak, it merely means we don't get duped into striking the first blow no matter how tempting it may become. However, actively exposing the deeds of evil men to the light of truth does not constitute an act aggression.

This was sent to me from Mr. Calzone of MoFirst.org and mo-cpr.org fame. I have not seen anything posted here, yet.

Several months ago, the Missouri Municipal League (MML) challenged the ballot titles for our two eminent domain initiative petitions for amendments that put an end to private use eminent domain in Missouri. The MML is a association of Missouri cities and is funded by the dues they pay - dues derived from taxpayer's dollars!

Today, June 30th, the Cole County court ruled that one sentence be deleted from the ballot titles the Secretary of State wrote and that the rest of the both ballot titles were acceptable. (See www.mo-cpr.org for details and a press release.)

That's good news for us, but we don't want any additional delays that might result from an appeal. The parties to the case have 10 days in which to appeal to a higher court. That's where you come in...

ACTION NEEDED:
We need to "persuade" the MML not to appeal the c1ase. They have been using taxpayer's dollars to keep voters from the opportunity to decide a public policy measure. We need to tell them to stop! Your local elected officials and the media are the key.

Please do three things:
1) Call any local elected official you know (mayor, alderman, etc.) and tell them to instruct the MML to stop their effort to keep us from collecting signatures.
2) Call radio programs and write letters to the editor complaining about MML.
3) Call the MML and give them the same message. Let them know that you are complaining to your local city officials.

We need to do this right away, since they will have to decide whether to appeal in only 10 days.

Here's the MML website: http://www.mocities.com/
Here's a list of their directors: http://www.mocities.com/AboutMML.html
Here's a partial list of their city members: http://www.mocities.com/MemberCitiesLinks.html
Missouri Municipal League • 1727 Southridge Dr. • Jefferson City, MO 65109 • 573-635-9134 • Fax: 573-635-9009

NOW is the time for action!

For liberty!

Here is a post I left on the message board/blog of a local radio show and thought I would share it here. The host is a big Fair Tax proponent but has came around a little closer to my view of small L libertarianism on other issues. I want to thank Fjhaddad1 for the Herman Cain video, Cain and Boortz are scheduled to speak at the Fair Tax rally in a couple of weeks.

Dear Fair Taxers,

As your rally quickly approaches here are some questions you may want to ask yourself and look for the answers. I too was once bitten by the Fair Tax bug but once I researched these questions independently, I did not like the answers.

  1. The most obvious, why would such a "brilliant" plan need a false Orwellian name and more than a few pages to sell it?
  2. Can I trust the main proponents and are their self-interest the same as mine? See link below.
  3. What other powerful entities and shadowy people have a national sales tax and a call for Con-Con in their planks.
  4. Am I just trading in one master for another or is it even possible that it is the same master?
  5. Am I participating in a diversion designed to use all of my energies to pacify myself and keep me distracted from greater and better goals?
  6. When has a "simple" plan which does not go to the root of the problem ever solved anything (miracle weight-loss pills, get rich quick schemes, and accounting tricks)?
  7. How does a national sales tax tie in with a national ID and what prospects does that hold for true liberty?
  8. How did a populace which was more educated in government and real economics than we are today, allow an income tax to be implemented to begin with?
  9. Am I so emotionally invested in the message and the messenger that I can not see reality hidden in plain view?
  10. Does this plan do anything to begin the process of placing government back in the box originally designed by the Constitution?

However do not worry it is completely natural to feel nauseous for a few days after looking for these answers, it will go away.  BEWARE OF THE PIED PIPER!

The trouble with being caught intentionally spreading lies and disinformation is you can not be trusted again on other things.

Lawful Money
,
Great questions Daniel - especially #7 which is very insightful - and great work by Frank questioning Mr. Cain and allowing him to expose himself a bit.

Some other questions for "FairTaxers" which come to mind:

1) Since when does 23% = 31%?
2) Is there a prerequisite in the so called "FairTax" plan that the IRS and income tax be completely obliterated BEFORE, or even simultaneously with, the initiation of the "FairTax"?
3) Why should we accept the notion that the current level of usurped power, widespread theft, and unconstitutional spending levels of the federal government, are justified and should be maintained?
4) Name at least one current office-holder who has at least half the wisdom of any of the Founding Fathers, under whose influence or guidance a Con-Con for the "sole purpose of passing a FairTax ammendment" the process could be kept from degenerating into a managed declaration of tyranny with the scuttling of the entire document?
5) How does the FairTax address the private entity which imposes virtually all "taxation" now, all of it "UnFairTax"-ation: Federal Reserve System?

Daniel, I am the Greene County Coordinator for C4L. I was trying to make contact with District 4, 7, and 8 County Coordinators and up when I happened to read your post.

Consider that maybe the Fair Tax group is rich with people that might be persuaded to join our cause. Approaching them by trying to convince them how wrong their tax plan is, might not win any of them over. If we instead work with them, on a step that is designed to eliminate the IRS, we may gain long term allies in the real fight. Standing only for the purest of goals doesn't get you very far, just look at how many Libertarian party members are elected to Congress. I'm not suggesting we compromise our principles, only be willing to support steps that move us in the general direction of our principles even if it doesn't make it there in one giant leap. The country is so far off the mark right now that we can't correct it all at once.

I'm not a Fair Tax advocate per se, but I think it is something that has more chance of being achieved than a Constitutional Tax.

Here are my thoughts on your questions:

1) Because it takes a lot of positive spin and a catchy phrase to appeal to the Government educated masses

2) Why do you have to trust them? Just do a simple comparison of the current IRS based plan and the proposed Fair Tax.

3) Guilt by very loose association. Invalid I think.

4) Does the Fair Tax have to be the final solution for it to be a step forward?

5) Since the entire country believes that the Government would come screeching to a halt if we ended the Income Tax, showing them that we can change things dramatically is a significant step forward.

6) It's not a simple fix everything plan. It is a plan to take a massive amount of power out of the hands of the politicians and lobbyists. Just the step of eliminating all of the exceptions, penalties, and special benefits is a great step forward. Plus it will dramatically lower the cost of doing business in the United States which has a high potential of bringing jobs and corporations back to US soil.

7) I don't think it does. The state would cut the checks to you if you signed up for them. It would be participating in the Census vs Filing with the IRS each year.

8) That is actually an argument for the Fair Tax. We need something that the Government educated masses can get behind.

9) The reality that this is not a panacea? I think you should argue against people thinking the Fair Tax is the ultimate solution, but just because it isn't, doesn't make it a bad step. Just think of it as a worthwhile step to make possible the elimination of the IRS. Once the spigot for the federal budget income is reduced to one number, the populace can fight to lower the one tax rate.

10) Yes, see #9. When the people don't really know the tax rate, they don't know what to fight against. Unifying the majority of taxes into one tax rate will cause people to stand up and fight against how high our taxes have always been.

Jeremy,

I find it ironic that here is the only place I'm accused of being a all or nothing ideologue every time when discussing the Fair Tax.

Some people assume if your are against the Fair Tax then you will only settle for anarchy. However that would be making invalid assumptions on the premise, the Fair Tax is a step in the right direction. I reject the notion that begging a tyrannic government for an addition form of taxation is a step in the right direction. Now we allow them to tax us in 100 different ways, why increase that number to 101.

I agree the Fair Tax has people involved that may join our cause. I know because I recruited some using this very tactic. While it may not appeal to the masses, it does strike a cord with the type we need(critical thinkers, leaders and people with their own motivation). 90% percent of the Fair Taxers will pat themselves on the back for saving the country and go back to sitting on the couch if the Fair Tax ever passed. These are not the people to rely on if we a to bring about lasting change. I am looking to convert the other 10% which will do something on their own accord. If I have learned only one thing since joining C4L it would be that it does not take a majority to prevail, only the right percentage of the right people. Others can chase the masses, with my limited time and talent I'm chasing the right people. If this was a follower organization I would not be here.

I'm not trying to convince anyone their plan is wrong but only offer them a few questions they may have neglected to look into. These questions are not unique to the Fair Tax, I try to honestly answer similar questions of C4L on a regular basis and any other organization I participate in.

Although, I may have to re-evaluate C4L when a coordinator endorses "it takes a lot of positive spin and a catchy phrase to appeal to the Government educated masses". I will not participate in spin or condescension to further my ideals, although it may work in the short run, nothing of long-term change can come about. My understanding was that we were here to escape and work against the false realities presented everywhere else.

I do not see the guilt by association as being invalid, when those that believe in greatness of global governance have national sales tax and Con-Con as a couple of the final objectives needed to fully implement their plan, I believe that is a very strong argument against. But then again, I use Bastiat's "Broken Window Fallacy" for politics also. I don't claim to be able to predict the future but I will acknowledge the possibilities and I am unwilling to gamble against those possibilities, especially with the current trajectory of our government.

No need for anyone to fear, I did not post it at the original site as an official C4L statement. I only posted it here in case someone else might find value in it and I found it interesting.

I apologize for misunderstanding you, and also for introducing myself with a large argument. I'm far more interested in building teamwork amongst the counties than I am winning arguments.

Far too many times, people argue against the Fair Tax because it isn't fair. Well, no it's not fair, it's not even a constitutional tax. I do disagree strongly with the statement "I reject the notion that begging a tyrannic government for an addition form of taxation is a step in the right direction. Now we allow them to tax us in 100 different ways, why increase that number to 101. " The best thing about the fair tax is that it is written to repeal probably 75 out of those 100 taxes, not add on top of the existing system. The fair tax is by no means asking for another tax, it is begging for a simplification and removal of many hidden and dangerous taxes.

Let me also state quite clearly. I am not at all trying to say that the Fair Tax is where we should be as a nation. I think that the Constitution, if followed, already has the correct stances on taxation. It's just a battle to get people to wake up and realize that they're being robbed blind.

On my statement in response to question 1: "The most obvious, why would such a "brilliant" plan need a false Orwellian name and more than a few pages to sell it?"

I said: "1) Because it takes a lot of positive spin and a catchy phrase to appeal to the Government educated masses"

This is a very deep and important subject. Under what time line do you expect to wake up and teach a majority of voters to think for themselves and choose the right thing? They voted for Obama, when they thought they wanted Change. Under what time line do you expect to replace the existing House of Representatives? We've got 1 so far (maybe 2 or three are joining us?), even though the Republicans are standing firm against the Democrats for now. You know it's just partisan posturing, and I doubt very many have felt any remorse for anything but losing the majority. Bottom line: we can't take control of the US House of Representatives any time soon. The main reason I see for trying to help push along the Fair Tax is because it has a slight possibility of passing, and it would eliminate the IRS. Because the vast majority of the country believes that the Federal Government cannot be slashed drastically or we would fall into anarchy, riots in the streets, and the poor would all be murdered by the greedy rich people, we must attempt to move in a direction that makes the reality of the situation more obvious to them. So, when I say that we need something that appeals to the Government educated masses, I mean that we cannot do anything without at least some support from the general populace. We need something that appeals to people where they are. I am not suggesting that we lie to anyone, but that the falsehoods that people already live in cannot be ignored. They must be overcome, and sometimes we cannot overcome them by only telling the truth bluntly. We have to present things in bite sized pieces. People revolt in their minds when their view of the world is upended. They shut down and refuse to think about truths that challenge everything that they believe. The majority of Americans are now lulled into a sleep that they don't WANT to wake up from. The Matrix has a lot of nonsense mixed in with truisms. The human brain does tend to fight off things that upset the way they operate from day to day. It chooses to ignore things that would upset their imagined balance.

Bottom line here: We tell the truth, never lie to people, but sometimes we have to introduce the truth in bite sized pieces. There's a whole country to bring along, and it can't happen in one speech, or one rally.

I look forward to talking with you more, I hope I haven't given you a bad impression of me, and that we can work together in the future.

A reminder for us who are actively involved at Campaign for Liberty. Remember to alert your e-mail and phone trees after we score a victory, so they can share in the success and credit they helped gain. Let's face it, the issues we mainly deal with get little or no media coverage at the state and national level. If we don't tell others that are not active members but sympathetic to the cause of liberty that help push our campaign, they will never know their efforts made a difference.

Last night after I received the great news that HB361 (Anti-National ID) had been passed unanimously after coming from being buried, I made a couple of calls to people I had asked to make phone calls to senators so they could share in the news and thank them for their help. I could hear the enthusiasm and sense of victory in their voice once they understood their efforts had made a difference. It will only increase our creditability that we can get things done and our voices can be heard for next time we ask for help. Plus, the bonus of giving good news for once instead of the gloom and doom they usually accuse me of spreading.

Now I am off to send a message to the e-mail chain.
