The bailout isn't going to work ... in fact it WILL make things worse. AND THEY KNEW IT (The media), yet they were also on the "sky is falling" if we don't pass this band wagon. THEY WANTED IT TO PASS ... now you will see them trun adversial ... and agressive (Not refering to O'Reilly) in the condemnation and critique ... I would argue that this was intentional, so they can be the venomous vipers that they are. The indignation of this "bailout" was incredible ... But the Arrogance on the part of our elected officials ... well, I think is finally coming out into the open. Sadly, this is something I had know for a LONG, LONG time ... consider, I was a journalist for 25 years.. have been retired for 12 or more years ... I sensed it then ... it has become more over now. Sadly the methods of recourse are becoming limited ... very limited. If you recall about 15 years ago, there was a push for term limits. The measure was passed in several states ... however, it was overturned by the courts ... imagine that OVERRULING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Evidentially we didn’t know better. Interestingly, the lawyers who argued against upholding these duly approved by the people referendums were retained by BOTH the RNC and the DNC (I would imagine this could be considered a “bi-partisan” move) The point here is the curve down ... the loss of what we SAY we hold dear is NOT measured in 30 or 60 minute segments (THIS IS NOT TELEVISION) We look for where to place the blame ... we seem quite good at doing that. (Often when I speak to an audience - I might quickly add that this happens when they have exhausted their list of possible speakers and it becomes a choice between me and the janitor and the janitor has to beg-off because one of his kids has a school function that he has to attend) I tell them that the most dangerous, devastating, and heinous weapon of ALL TIME ... A weapon that has over the centuries, been responsible for the deaths of more of our fellow man, the destruction of more societies, the devastation of more civilizations is NOT nuclear, or biological, it is OUR INDEX FINGER! IT WAS HIS FAULT, IT WAS HER FAULT, or IT WAS THEIR FAULT! Most amazing about this weapon of MASS DESTRUCTION is that it rarely if EVER is capable of being used to commit suicide. When was the last time you heard someone point that finger at themself and say ... “It was MY fault.” But the fact is ... and I make NO attempt to sugar coat this ... IS OURS! Not in Congress ... nor our elected officials ... NOR is it found solely on Wall Street or in our financial system. THEY are no more than a reflection of how we conduct ourselves in our everyday life. For elected officials, what has been lost is the notion that to seek to hold a public office, no matter what level (one needs to turn to the events in New York City right now as an example .. Bloomberg is seeking an UNPRECEDENTED third term) is a desire to SERVE the public, the community, the nation .. IT IS NOT, nor NEVER was it intended to be a “Career Path” For Wall Street ... the is NO sin in the desire to become wealthy ... THERE IS, HOWEVER, a sin in doing so unethically. It there a need for a “Second Revolution?” Without a doubt there is ... how this takes its form ... I haven’t an idea. Certainly the one recourse that we have always held dear - if we wanted change, we can show out distaste and displeasure at the ballot box ... but even that one weapon of a Democracy is now in doubt ... MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of Americans who were watching the Senate consider the bailout bill, Calif. Senator Diane Fienstein stepped before the microphone in front of her senate colleagues and AMERICA and said; (AND THIS IS HER DIRECT QUOTE) "I received 95,000 items of correspondence from my constituents in the past two days. Of these, 86,000 opposed this bailout. The problem is that the people have no idea what is going on. If they actually understood the problem before them, they would support this bailout wholeheartedly. Senators have to serve long-terms in office; and during these terms, they must make hard decisions. I have to act in the best interest of this country, and so I am voting for this tonight." If you are anxious for the Nov. elections to vote these bums out ..... you FIRST might want to consider this ... something that YOU MOST LIKELY WON'T SEE ON MAINSTREAM MEDIA. "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves." What "We the People" have forgotten is that Democracy and Freedom are NOT concepts that can be “PHONE IN” or Bloged on the internet. Democracy and Freedom DO NOT have an automatic pilot ... it is a form of government, of governance and rule ... IT IS a way of life that need our constant attention and participation.
