C00kieM0nster's weblog
I am sure many here have read, perhaps even published these words on C4L before, stumbled across the real source (they are often attributed to "Honest" Abe), William Boeckter. I thought they were worth plagiarizing :)
The 10 Cannots
* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. * You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. * You cannot help little men by tearing down big men. * You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. * You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. * You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money. * You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. * You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. * You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence. * And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.
The Seven National Crimes
* I don't think. * I don't know. * I don't care. * I am too busy. * I leave well enough alone. * I have no time to read and find out. * I am not interested.
Perhaps others here will read them for the first time and share. Hope you enjoy them.

Willij4lib Monroe, WA | You forgot a couple:
Cannot
You cannot have secrecy and have respect.
You cannot allow tyranny and have liberty
Crimes
I don’t evaluate.
I do not validate.
I think I know.

2ndClassCitizen Princeville, HI | Your post on the "10 cannots" is largely pure propaganda. Notice how the opposite of your statements is true as well. There is no point to your comments other than decisive propaganda. The powers that be love it when they can divide us over meaningless things like this and give us the illusion of of choice between conservative and liberal when both are feeding us about half or more of pure poisoned BS.
You cannot bring about prosperity by encouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by helping the strong.
You cannot help little men by empowering big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by enriching the wage payer.
You cannot end poverty by giving the wealthy a greater share.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending less than you earn.
You cannot help men permanently when your first instinct is to judge them.
By the way I believe in peaceful change as Martin Luther, and Martin Luther King Jr. worked for. We can work in our system to change it, but not by calling others immoral for eating the galley's bread while we try to change the course of the ship.
Crime #1 of all time:
I judge others before truly examining myself. |

C00kieM0nster Oxnard, CA | @2CC - Your additions are worthwhile however, in calling the original piece pure propaganda, you appear to be prepared to excuse transgressions for some common good. You also seem to think both sides are mutually exclusive. They are not. The 10 Cannots are simple truths for individuals to follow when dealing with each other. Yours require the action of government.
Should I just give money to the person on the curb holding the sign, or should I demand an exchange of value, for value? Giving that person money does nothing to help their self-esteem. Realizing that they have value does.
I also fail to see where the 10 Cannots are judgmental, or call for subverting any system. Those who cry, "judgmental" are usually making excuses for rewarding mediocrity. |

I am curious, with all of this Ron Paul style candidate posturing, why did we not hear more about Joe Kennedy in the Mass Senatorial Special election?
Did people of Mass. even know. Did C4L'ers of Mass. at least know?
From my vantage point on the left coast, he seemed to have some common sense approaches, and even supported some of Dr. Paul's legisltation? Again, from my vantage point this is very disappointing, but I have travelled much lately, and have not be able to remain well informed, especially regarding politics on the othe side of the country.
Reading Joe Kennedy's website was quite encouraging. I would have thought that C4L would have been all over this guy from the start. Would anyone care to enlighten me?

Now this is getting personal. It goes without saying, that if they ban cookies on flights, I will be especially upset.

Add California to the list of states looking to implement speed cameras. The usual pretexts by the usual suspects.
