How much is the $100 million dollars in budget cuts compared to the federal budget as a whole? This video imagines the budget at $100 in pennies to provide the answer
We must have a structure to change the hearts and minds of people next time an eruption breaks out against the policies of government.
1) We seriously need to gather phone numbers of fellow C4L people who will attend and keep contact with each other.
2) Make signs, go to Kinko's print up the fliers, and make copies of the sign-up form
3) Get a tent (They're cheap at Home Depot or Lowes) 4 corner pop-up tent, two folding chairs and folding table. People are attracted toward these tents for "more information." Having a few of us behind the table (dressed business casual) would promote the cause and build our numbers for C4L
4) Fax the "sign-up for C4L forms" to HQ or mail originals (BE HONEST, don't take people's email or addresses for your own personal list!) Once the people in your area sign up post calendar events and email them, create rapport.
5) FOCUS OF THE ISSUES! Don't be like this guy:
Read the talking points; listen to the Ron Paul videos on YouTube. Make his points! Be professional, clear and concise. No need to get worked up. If a member of the media starts to attack, defend your positions and be professional. The guy in the video should've said something like: "$400 tax credit? When they increased my taxes? They take $20 from me and give me $5 that's not right!" and "This is not an issue on how much money one state will receive in stimulus money when the stimulus bill was packed with pork projects that will not take effect until 2012"
6) If the crowd seems to chant-down someone you disagree with counter the crowd. There is nothing worse than having people booed off stage because they have opposing views. Everyone should have a chance to speak their mind, that's what freedom of speech is all about.
7) Don't micromanage the event. I was at the Morristown, NJ tea party "On the Green" one guy named Neil Kramer took the stage and was THREATEND to be removed by "The Organizers." Doing this completely illegitimatizes the event, Neil was talking about the NJ state constitution and how the people can remove the government. This was wrong on so many levels, because the organizers acted unprofessionally and the crowed turned on them chanting "Let him speak!"
8) Talk to people; don't stand off in the corner being a loner. Network and talk to other people. I spoke to an older gentleman at the Morristown event, he asked me about being a republican and I told him that I agree with Ron Paul on 99% of the issues and I spoke to him about the YAL chapters on all the college campuses. He was shocked to hear that many young people are getting involved this way.
9) Keep following this site, and keeping in contact with other people in the area. Get involved in local political meetings. Send mass txt messages to fellow C4L people for events that would be coming up. "Congressman Blah-Blah will be having a pancake breakfast at the firehouse on Saturday and have an open forum for questions, we need to go and ask him about 1207" things like that.
We are the grassroots, and we need to start changing the hearts and minds of people.
