For the June 29th, 2009 edition of Texas Straight Talk, Representative Ron Paul (TX) provides his insight and analysis on HR 2454 "American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009" also known as the Waxman Markey bill. HR 2454 seeks to implement a federal Cap and Trade scheme onto both American business and individuals in the form of "carbon offset credits". The bill which passed the House on Friday, June 25th, 2009 by a vote of 219 aye - 212 nay (Roll no. 477) now moves on to the Senate where some are expecting it to encounter a tougher road to passage.

robbomango Portland, OR | Below is an e-mail I sent to my Congressman regarding long winded unread bills. There has to be a way to stop this legislative tactic, "IF YOU DON'T KNOW VOTE NO".
When will this bill go to the Senate?
Dear Congressman Wu,
I'm an Oregon resident and voter living in the 1st District. You recently voted in support of Hr 2454 The Clean Energy and Security act without reading the 1200+ page bill or at least the 300 page addition added while in session. I'm am strongly against these legislative tactics to pressure Congress. Any bill that hasn't been fully read and reviewed should be voted against or filibustered regardless of it's good intentions. I would like to see actions to prevent this type of blind approval.
Thank you very much, Robert Mangino 1st District Oregon |

mfloyd Millbrook, NY | Wayne Allen Root should research how the Berlin Wall really fell... It wasn't because Ronald Reagan told "Gorbi" to tear it down.
I lived in Germany 20 years, and I saw the Wall come down. The people cheered for Ronald Reagan, but in private most of them didn't give a second thought to his speech. They've seen American Presidents come and go; all of them promising something or another.
How did the Wall fall? Simple.
The West Germans spoke with the Hungarians. East Germans were allowed to travel to Hungary. The West Germans promised the Hungarian Government enough credit to offset any losses they might have from the East German government in exchange for the Hungarians opening their border to Austria. They then allowed the East Germans to travel across the "Gruene Wiese" (Green Meadow) border area of Hungary and Austria, and from there they had free access to West Germany. The East Germans were helpless to do anything about it without Soviet support, and the Soviets were too busy with their own reforms. (Trying to save what little economy they had left.) The West German government was very quiet about what they did so as not to do any harm to those left in East Germany. They were glad to let Reagan steal credit for the venture.
And for the first time, graffiti was seen on the east side of the Wall: "Last one out turn off the lights."

illuminati hater Las Vegas, NV | If you really think about it, America's health system has never been truly pro-market.
As Lew said, insurance companies and medicare systems dominate the system. In fact, when you really dive deep into how the word "insurance" is used, you really see just how silly it really is.
You always have government going crazy over how many people aren't insured. In all honestly, why do they have to be? Insurance is nothing more than a scam that the government uses to make sure you can meet their standards on in terms of being able to afford help. The thing is that it's the doctor, not the government that's treating you. As Mr. Rockwell said, treat the doctor as your employer. Let your doctor make up the payment plans for the time that he gave to you.
Now that I think about it, I think every doctor should be allowed to have his/her private practice. Instead of the government and/or insurance companies making the choices, allow the doctors to decide everything: payment, treatment, equipment, etc. Does anyone else agree? |

justinb Oklahoma City, OK | Great show, I liked Lew's idea too, and was needing a dose of Ron. However, Canadians do get to pick their own doctor.
There needs to be a lot of changes. Doctors go to school for a long time these days incurring lots of debt. So they're fees are going to be higher, plus the tens of thousands of dollars of malpractice insurance they pay every year that Ron has mentioned plus the countless other issues. |

Rogue Tallmansville, WV | The problem we have with healthcare in this country is tied directly to the fact that congress and federal employees do not live under the same rules as the rest of us. If they did they would probably do a better job of making it work for us.
The system is just not fair. Let's make them make it fair by showing them what true healthcare reform looks like and demand they pass it. It does not need to be complicated, the Posse Comitatus Act was very short and served well enough for over 100 years.
How about this?
The Fair American Insurance Reform Act of 2009. Hereafter the FAIR Act
No elected member of the US Senate or Member of the US House of Representatives shall be entitled to any federally funded healthcare plan. Members may purchase private healthcare plans provided they make publicly available information regarding the cost, terms and conditions of the plan.
Any private company selling a healthcare plan to a member of the US House or US Senate shall be required to make the same plan available to all of the residents of the Senate or House Member’s home state at the same price and under the same terms and conditions.
The federal government shall not provide any healthcare plan to federal employees.
Federal employees shall be entitled to a healthcare plan voucher equal to $12,000. The value of this voucher shall be indexed to inflation. Federal employees may use this voucher to purchase any privately offered healthcare insurance plan available in the employee’s state of residence. They may also choose to use the voucher as part of an MSA and if a part of the voucher is unused in the purchase of high deductable insurance the employee may have the balance deposited in their personal MSA account.
A fully refundable income tax credit shall be made available to any citizen for the full amount of the cost of any healthcare plan and/or non-reimbursed medical expenses, dental expenses or mental health care expenses up to the total aggregate of those costs and expenses or $12,000, whichever is less. The value of this tax credit shall be indexed to inflation.
This act shall not apply to healthcare plans provided by the various branches of the US Military to current or former members of the US Military provided the healthcare plan is available to any current or former member of the US Military and provided the care and services levels provided are based on military service without regard to any other government service or employeement.
This act shall become effective 60 days after full passage into law.
The judicial branch of the federal government is denied jurisdiction regarding the constitutionality of this act. The judicial branch is granted jurisdiction regarding the enforcement of this act.
Any citizen of the US shall have standing in any federal court to bring suit for the purposes of requiring the compliance with this act by any member of the US Senate, US House or any private healthcare plan provider. A citizen prevailing in the prosecution of their rights under this act shall be entitled to recovery of actual damages, reasonable attorneys fees and punitive damages not to exceed ten times actual damages and attorney’s fees from the opposing party. Federal funds may not be used to reimburse or otherwise cover the costs of providing a defense to elected officals found to be in violation of this act.
For the purposes of this act “healthcare plan” means any HMO, managed care, PPO, MSA or general catastrophic insurance plan designed to cover the costs of medical care, dental care or mental health care.
This act supersedes any prior act that may act contrary to the terms contained herein.

Aaron Russo sat down with Alex Jones in 2007 just months before his untimely passing from cancer. What follows is the full 90-minute interview, which is more accurately described as a very intimate and personal conversation with a true patriot from the liberty movement.
