Which method is more ethical:  stopping vehicles to confiscate "drug money" from illegal runners, or taxing licensed business people?

Do Tennessee anti-drug agents neglect drugs traveling out of state and focus only on the money coming back through!

One city, San Jose, stands to collect $3.5 MILLION from legal marijuana sales!

By allowing the sale of marijuana does the city lose money or gain money?  Do they see more problems with illegal drugs or fewer?  By having legitimate businesses dispensing the product to they have fewer gang issues?  Are their policemen freed up from making pot busts or do they have more problems to deal with?

Follow up on how Tennessee lets people it thinks are involved with the illegal drug trade off the hook as long as they can take the cash back to their department.

Those of us in the District 18 Campaign for Liberty congratulate Kerry Roberts on his win in the primary for District 18 and wish him the best of luck in the general election.

Kerry Roberts, a Campaign for Liberty member, of Springfeild Tennessee was in the Republican primary against several other well qualified candidates and now goes up against Ken Wilber, Democrat from Portland in the general election on March 8th.  Roberts is known for being keen on the issues and running a very positive campaign.  One of his previous highlights was bringing up \'End the Fed\' during his run for our US Representative district.  It\'s worth noting that he is a certified public accountant who talks personally about End the Fed.

If Kerry Roberts wins the general election he will be the highest ranking Campaign for Liberty member elected to office in Tennessee.  As a senator he may be the highest ranking Campaign for Liberty member in any state house.

Note that the special election had about 6500 votes cast in a district containing 200,000 people.  This tells us that the only wasted vote is the one not cast.

This is not an endorsement for Kerry Roberts by myself or Campaign for Liberty

In Tennessee you can search for bills on issues that are important to you, follow your state senator and representative and save them in your own personal list.

I'll take a moment to thank one of the recently elected Sumner school board members, Vanessa Silkwood, for questioning whether a $35,000 maintenance book is worth bidding out.  It's always good to see people asking the right questions.

Here is a quote from one of the board members regarding mainenance issues:

One night he noticed all the lights in the school’s parking lot were dark.

“I asked the maintenance guy why he let all the bulbs go out.
“He answered, ‘Well, when they built this school the parking lots lights are too tall for the equipment we have. Our equipment works at every other school, but not at this one!’”

On a similar note, the lights inside Station Camp’s gymnasium are reachable by lift, but the lift itself cannot fit through the doors of the gym.
When a light goes out, the maintenance team must hand-build scaffolding under the light in order to reach it.

Read the whole story here:

Since KBJM Architects has planned our recent buildings it would seem that they are also to blame for building a gym without a door for a lift to get through. Yet Will Duncan said "I really have a lot of faith and confidence in them.”

Poll: Is it fair to pay so much to compile standards for our school buildings?

Yes, it will save money in the long run
No, they should do their own legwork and plan buildings that work with what the maintenance staff already has

Since our current state senator Diane Black has been elected to the US Congress for District 6 there will be a special election held to fill the vacancy.  District 18 covers Sumner and Robertson Counties.  The special election will be on March 8, 2011 with a primary on January 20th. The filing deadline is tomorrow, December 9th at noon.

TN Dist 18

In the interim long term Sumner County Republican Ferrell Haile will occupy the state senate seat.  Congratulations to Ferrell, I've known him since my early years and have never heard of anyone who didn't respect him and I doubt that I ever will.

So far I know that several Sumner residents have filed and only one from Robertson County.  This may make the election very interesting since multiple candidates in Sumner may be splitting up the votes leaving a lone Robertson candidate to capture most of the voters on home turf.

So far we have Sumner candidates:

Gallatin veterinarian Bryan Bondurant.

Fred Congdon a director for the Association of County Mayors.

William Slater who is headmaster at Hendersonville Christian Academy.

Joe Warren Jones a Gallatin Accountant.

Jeff Stromatt from Goodlettsville

Ken Wilber - Mayor of Portland has entered the race as the only Democrat.

Ferrell Haile is not running for the seat in this election.

The only candidate from Robertson County is Kerry Roberts.  He is an accountant and owns several local bicycle shops.

Many voters may recall Kerry from the recent campaign for US Representative.  That race had about dozen people vying to win.  For Kerry you have to wonder if some name recognition was built that will help him in his current bid.  I do not think any of the others have previous campaign exerience or have held a political office.  It's good to see a lot of fresh faces running!

As always, feel free to comment.

Presentation, Q & A with Senator Bob Corker

America's economy is the number one issue.

7PM November 11th, 2010 at the Belmost Massey Arts Center, Nashville, TN - Bob Corker will be talking about America's Debt Crisis.

We are glad to hear Senator Corker say that there is a debt crisis, the subject seems to be largely ignored.  Washington will spend $1.3 Trillion above what we can afford this year.  Bob Corker is on the banking comittee so we hope he will be able to shed some light on how this unsustainable spending will be stopped.  More than just stopping it he will tell us how the $13,500,000,000,000 national debt will get paid off so our children and grand children won't be burdened with the practices in D.C. today.

This is a free event so I expect you to be there to hear what Bob Corker has to say.

If for any reason you can not attend what question would you ask Mr. Corker?
