"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the grace of the Eternal God, will rout you out!"
-Andrew Jackson
Wow, what a long title for a blog. But hey, I couldn't think of a way to shorten it. Anyway, with Dr. Paul and the 179 co-sponsors, we only need 38 more members of Congress to co-sponsor the bill to actually have a majority of House members supporting it. Thus, in classic Casey Kasem form, I have decided to name the Top 40 members of Congress we should concentrate on trying to convince to co-sponsor the bill. Well, actually, this will not be in any particular order, and thus... its nothing like Casey Kasem's Top 40 countdown at all. But hey, it was a catchy title. The criteria used to select these 40 House members was voting record, geographic location of their district, and level of Campaign For Liberty presence in their district (as determined by number of members registered in the district). For those of us whose representative has already co-sponsored, this is yet another way we can help make progress toward getting a vote on the bill. So, without further ado...
THE TOP 40 MEMBERS OF CONGRESS LIKELY TO SUPPORT HR 1207 THAT HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE SO!
(not sure if your rep has co-sponsored yet? you can check here... http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-1207 )
(note: only people within the representative's district can email them, but ANYONE can call and/or fax)

Remember, if you choose to contact these members, emphasize what beliefs we hold in common. There are MAYBE 3 or 4 members of Congress that vote strictly based on the Constitution, and they've all already co-sponsored. So, bringing up all the votes that you disagree with or feel are in violation of the Constitution doesn't really help our cause. Besides, there will be plenty of time to confront congresspeople on these issues in the future. As for now, be polite and enthusiastic. In addition, you might be told that just because the congressperson doesn't co-sponsor the bill, that doesn't mean they won't vote for it. Politely respond that without the representative's co-sponsorship, the bill may never get a vote. Be firm in seeking an answer, and if you're told "no" they will not co-sponsor the bill, please relay this information back to other Campaign For Liberty members (particularly in that district) so we can both concentrate our co-sponsorship efforts elsewhere and begin organizing against that particular member immediately for the 2010 election. We are so close to making history... let's do this!!!
