I wish to call attention to an article published Friday, Feb. 25, entitled, "Ohio 'patriot' groups doubled, report finds" by Randy Ludlow. The source of the data, the Southern Poverty Law Center, who has morphed into a mouthpiece for an array of liberal causes, gives no thought to grouping liberty loving organizations like the John Birch Society and the Constitution Party of Delaware in together with the KKK and the American National Socialist Party. These groups, contrary to what the SPLC would have us and the politicians they present their data to believe, have absolutely nothing in common except the fact that they are labeled hatemongers or antigovernment zealots by the SPLC, who the American Institute of Philanthropy gave one of the worst ratings of any group it monitors.
If you wish to use quotations around the word Patriot, a correct application would be applied to the so called 'Patriot' Act. A month after Sept. 11, 2001, with no debate in the House and with only 15 minutes to read the 315 page bill, it was made into law. It's a shining example of Orwellian legislation and exemplifies the statist political ideology made famous by the pen of the W. Bush Administration and the following statement made by Rahm Emanuel, former White House Chief of Staff under Obama, "You never let a serious crisis go to waste, what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." Exactly what happen in the month after 9/11. This act gives federal agents carte blanche in issuing their own search warrants and then prohibits the recipient of the unconstitutional warrant from telling anyone that they have received it. It also permits federal agents to break into your home and seize property and not disclosed it for up to 18 months... Wait!!?! I thought we had protection against these type of infringements provided to us by the Constitution, which is itself an antigovernment document that defines and limits the power granted to the Government by the People and was originally designed to act as the chains that would bind down the Government from this type of mischief? Don't our elected officials take an Oath to protect and defend the Constitution? James Madison once said, "It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad."
But we as Americans, who are the true protectors of our Constitution, have become blindly lackadaisical in our approach to protecting what others have risked their lives and fortunes to establish. The data only serves to point out that some are being awaken from their slumbers, recognizing their innate duty to rescue our debt ridden and morally destitute country from the depths of deprivation and do their part, however small or large it may be, to restore luster to what was once a Republic, but now functions under the cloak of an Empire.
