The Luce County Campaign for Liberty group is small, but active. Being the second least populated county in Michigan, we're on fire more than ever and ready to make a change in Michigan and America! Our local GOP is comprized by many Campaign for Liberty Members including our local GOP chairman Eric Cadeau!
On January 30th, we held the first ever Northern Michigan "Tea Party Congress" in St. Ignace. Over 30 Tea Party Groups were represented by over 300 attendees. Our goal in holding the Tea Party Congress was to:
a. Get all the Tea Party Groups in Northern Michigan to ally behind a common cause of personal liberty, strict adherence to the constitution, and natural rights.
b. Establish an Umbrella "Semi-Organization" called "The Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance".
c. Discuss tactics and strategy necessary for us in the 1st district to work to restoring constitutional government district-wide, state-wide, as well country-wide.
Some of the topics discussed were:
Letter to the Editor Campaign
The Liberty Report
Precinct Delegate takeover
Canvass Precinct & Get out the Vote
Use of Media
Vetting of Candidates
Identification of Candidates
Video of me speaking about the NMLA in Escanaba at the State of the State Citizens Response Event:
Every group represented in the Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance will remain a completely independent group. Our goal in creating the NMLA is to create a hub for upper michigan liberty/conservative activism, and to harness the power of numbers to help promote and support our ideals of limited government, personal liberty, and natural rights throughout the 1st district in an organized and effective manner.
Allying in this way benefits us because we'll now have a louder voice when speaking with the media, it also allows us to combine the email lists from all the groups into one massive list to help keep everyone in the NMLA informed of protests, rallies, events, and other news.
The 1st district Campaign for Liberty group is a part of the Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance as well as: • Luce County Sons and Daughters of Liberty • The Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance • Petoskey Tea Party Group • Onaway Tea Party Group • Indian River Tea Party Group • Iron County Tea Party Group • Escanaba Tea Party Group • Concerned Citizens of the U.P., a Houghton Tea Party Group • Americans for Constitutional Enforcement (A4CE), an Iron Mountain Tea Party Group • Marquette County Tea Party Group • L’Anse Tea Party Group • Menominee Sons and Daughters of Liberty • Rattle with US, Southeast Michigan (Plymouth, Northville, Canton) Tea Party Group providing correspondence and information from Tea Party groups in Kalamazoo, Port Huron, Grand Rapids, Lapeer, Ludington, Vassar, and Midland. • Tea Party of West Michigan • Gun owners of America • Michigan Fair Tax
Our Right to Life endorsed Congressman, Bart Stupak says that while he is “leading the charge” to prevent any health care reform from using tax payer funds for abortion, if health care reform legislation makes it to the floor of the U.S. Congress and includes public funding for abortions, he will support it.
Stupak was asked at a recent 1st district town-hall meeting held in Cheboygan Michigan, that if his attempts to get public funding for abortion removed from the health care bill are unsuccessful, if he would still vote yes for the bill. And his answer to the disappointment of the crowd was: “If I had a chance to vote my conscience I probably would not. I probably would still vote for the health care bill at the end of the day.”
Principles only have value when people stick to them. Why does Stupak feels it necessary to cooperate with a bill that goes against his principles?
Check out the video below:
The video was shot at a Cheboygan town hall meeting Oct. 23, and was presented by the Heritage Foundation’s blog The Foundry.
“If everything I want [is] in the final bill, I like everything in the bill except you have public funding for abortion, and we had a chance to run our amendment and we lost. OK, I voted my conscience, stayed true to my principles, stayed true to the beliefs of this district, could I vote for healthcare? Yes I still could.”
-Bart Stupak
How can someone say they support the right to life, and at the same time vote for public funded abortion? Let’s not forget that Bart stated recently in a letter he sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that any health care reform bill that contained provisions to fund abortion would be “unacceptable”.
Not to mention that the “Hyde Amendment” makes allocating tax-payer funds for abortion illegal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Amendment, there shouldn’t even be a debate about public-funded abortion!
In a way this health care bill is a good thing though, it’s forced Bart and many other so-called “Pro-Life Democrats” to actually take a stand for once. They can no longer play both sides of the table and get away with it. They’ve been all talk up to this point, but now that they’re forced to actually pick a side, we’ll finally be able to see who the true believers are, and those who choose to be pro-life simply because it’s convenient for them.
On the surface, Stupak has some genuine pro-life credentials based on his voting record, the problem is up until this point there has been no real test to prove his devotion to the right to life cause. In the face of real opposition his devotion wavers, he is no longer the champion of Right to Life that he has assured us he is, he is quite plainly, a politician.
“I offered an amendment that says no public funding for abortion that’s been the law of the land for many many decades and we lose that vote. Let’s say we lose that vote– we need 218 to win–let’s say we get 217 and we lose. Would I vote against health care? If I had a chance to vote my conscience I probably would not. I probably would still vote for the health care bill at the end of the day.”
-Bart Stupak
The Michigan Right to Life’s endorsement of Stupak is a disgrace to pro-lifers around the country. Stupak in his 2004 campaign was also endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee. It’s a shame to think that the Michigan Right to Life may be partly culpable in establishing taxpayer funded abortions nationwide, thanks a lot, we trusted you.
If Stupak votes for the public funding of abortion he not only throws out his entire pro-life voting record, he throws out his constituent’s trust as well.
Public-funded abortion is illegal, unconstitutional, unethical, and unacceptable.
We need to replace Stupak as soon as possible with someone who is willing to take a “no compromise” stand against abortion.
Linda Goldthorpe and I spoke with a group of Republicans in Houghton county today, inviting them to attend the First District Campaign for Liberty tea party scheduled for July 5th. The group consisted of several CCUP (Concerned Citizens of thr Upper Peninsula) members, the vice-chair and treasurer of the Houghton county Republican party, and other houghton county Republican party members.
I just set up a CFL document sharing network on Scribd.com so we can embed documents in CFL blog posts. I noticed there was really no good way to upload and embed documents on Campaignforliberty.com, so I thought this would be an OK solution.
Scribd supports most common document formats including:
Microsoft Office: doc, docx ppt, pptx, pps xls, xlsx
PDF: pdf, ps
Open Office: odt, odp, sxw, sxi, etc.
Text: txt, rtf
How to join the CFL Group and upload a document:
1. First go to http://www.scribd.com/group/74508-campaign-for-liberty
3. Make an account with your username, password, and email address.
4. Upload your document!
Once your document is uploaded you can embed the document directly into your CFL blog post:
1. To do this simply click the "embed" link over your document page and copy the embed code.
2. Paste the embed code in to a text edit program and find the "embed src="http://d.scribd.com/ScribdViewer.swf?document_id=YOUR DOCUMENT ID HERE&page=1&version=1&viewMode="" line and copy everything between the quotation marks.
2.Create a new entry in your CFL blog. Click the "embed media" button (the one that looks like a video button).
3.Paste the code in to the "File/URL" field and make width "100%" and height "500" and click "insert" (You can make it any size you choose, this is just a nice looking size.)
4. You're done!
A space holder box will show up in place of your document until you publish your blog post.
Bill Schuette, candidate for Michigan Attorney General spoke to small group of Upper Michigan Republicans about his candidacy. The group was comprised of mostly Campaign for Liberty members, including our Luce county Campaign for Liberty coordinator Eric Cadeau (who is also our county Republican Chairman by the way), and our District CFL Coordinater Linda Goldthorpe.
There was also an article on the front page of the Newberry News With Both Eric and Linda:
The Luce County Campaign for Liberty group worked Friday to clean up a local road for Michigan's "Adopt a Highway" program. Don't forget to rate the video five stars!
Thanks to everyone that came out Friday for the event, you were great! Hopefully we'll get our sign soon as a reward for all of our hard work!
A few weeks ago, Michigan Campaign for Liberty announced a video contest for the Michigan Republican State Convention (being held today and tomorrow.) We will have a table at the Convention, and the winning video will be displayed as Michigan C4L introduces itself to that state's Republican mainstream.
The entire membership of the Luce county contingent for Campaign for Liberty attended the Summit in Ann Arbor on Sunday. We hardly noticed the drive home through the long, white tunnel that is the UP, as we discussed what we heard from activists statewide. Thanks to Adam, Sean, Tony and Eric for inspiring us.
A 1st district meeting is being planned. Let us know if you have any ideas/preferences about date and location.
Poll: First Distrtict Meeting- What location is most convenient for you?
