Liber-TEA PARTY
Held July 3, 2010 Bel Air, Maryland 21014
Hundreds attended our second annual Independence Day Weekend Liberty Rally which featured speeches on the first ten Amendments (the Bill of Rights) to the Constitution of the United States of America, which were ratified effective Dec. 15, 1791. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to set limits on what the government can and cannot do in regard to personal liberties. Those gathered heard a number of stirring speeches and celebrated the rebirth that Americans are now experiencing in the words, wisdom, and vision of our Founding Fathers.
I am a registered voter that recently moved to your district. Wow. What a whirlwind of changes in the past few years!! I am writing to you firstly to voice my opposition to a federally run health care system. Not because of the details or lack there of within the proposed bills, but rather the simple fact that the Federal Government does not have the Constitutional authority to do so. Our Government has gotten so enormous in the past two decades alone that it struggles to operate within a reasonable budget.
Have you been to a local MVA lately?? Is this what you want for my health care? Despite the best efforts to run government programs of any size efficiently it has always and I mean ALWAYS proven to be bogged down and over priced to the tax payer. Not to mention that once a program is started, no matter what size, it grows and grows and grows until it can no longer sustain itself. What ever happened to "A limited sized government"? Why do you in congress think you have all the answers to fix things with more legislation and rules and mandates?? I personally am completely sick and tired of working my rear end off only to fork over the fruits of MY labor to an ineffective government that seems to be more and more detached from the citizens it represents.
Has it been so long since you were just a sheriff trying to provide for your family??
What makes you think I or anyone else wants the government to participate in every decision or activity of our lives? WE DON'T DEPEND ON YOU. YOU DEPEND ON US!!
I would like you to take the time to really notice all the things you do in a day's time and how many of those things you do are either controlled by government, taxed by government, or need a registration from the government to do. It is truly mind boggling!!
I hope you have enjoyed your break. I look forward to your response.
About 1,000 patriots participated in the Bel Air Tax Day TEA Party held at the courthouse in Bel Air, MD.
Five of the speakers at the TEA party are Campaign For Liberty Harford County Local Coordinators, another handful of speakers who spoke are regular attendees and members of Harford County Campaign For Liberty. Campaign For Liberty was well represented by it's members and garnered much support from each C4L speech given. The "End The Fed' chant was going strong quite a few times throughout the TEA Party.
On the evening of Jan. 27, 2010, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) spoke before a capacity audience at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland with well over 1,000 in attendance. An additional auditorium had to be pressed into service to hold an overflow crowd of 300.
Dr. Paul spoke about the case for auditing the Federal reserve and the longterm serious economic problems our nation faces due to our current monetary policy. Campaign for Liberty members from around the state attended this event as well as many members of the Young Americans for Liberty.
Several score of C4L members, family, and friends made the trip down from Harford County to Loyola for this special evening. Here is a video of a portion of Dr. Paul's speech.
On Wednesday night, January 13, 2010 approximately 2,600 Marylanders braved freezing temperatures to attend a Tea Party at this years opening session of the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis. Maryland residents are still reeling from the largest tax increase in the states history in 2007, which included raising the state sales tax to $.06 on the dollar. Many Maryland businesses have recently been hit with a 300% increase in their state unemployment tax rate. Despite this and numerous other recent tax increases the state still faces a projected 2 billion dollar shortfall this year. Marylanders have had enough and assembled Wednesday night to say "no" to runaway spending and irresponsible state government.

This event was sponsored by a broad based coalition of activist groups from around the state including the Americans for Prosperity, Maryland Taxpayers Association, and a host of local Tea Party Organizations. Maryland Campaign for Liberty was a proud co-sponsor of this event.
Scores of Campaign for Liberty members from chapters around the state attended to participate and spread the liberty message. In the photo above the C4L literature tent can be seen in the bottom right hand corner. The street at the bottom of the picture is where buses from 12 locations throughout Maryland arrived. As citizens stepped from the buses they were greeted by C4L members with literature.
Speakers at the rally included two Campaign for Liberty members from Harford County. One spoke about Harford's Tea Party movement success last year in reducing the County budget, lowering the property tax rate, and lowering the property tax increase cap. The other spoke about congressional redistricting, and gerrymandering, which the party in power in Maryland has used to debase the vote of it's citizens.
Organizers hope that Wednesday night's successful rally is just the first of several Tea Parties which will be held in Annapolis during the current legislative session.
We received word today that Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (Democrat), Maryland's Second District, has finally signed on as to co-sponsor to HR-1207, the bill to "Audit the Federal Reserve". That means that all the hard work over the last months by Campaign for Liberty members has finally paid off. Now, all three Harford County Congressmen have co-sponsored HR-1207.
Harford County, with just a population of 240,000 is gerrymandered into three Congressional Districts to help spread out our conservative voters. Harford is a poster child for gerrymandering. A portion of our county votes with Ocean City, Maryland, which borders the Atlantic Ocean. Another part votes with the far reaches of Western Maryland and the Appalachian Mountains. Still another part votes with the suburbs of Baltimore. Maryland is a geographically tiny state where no one lives more than 45 minutes from another states border. Yet the three districts in our county span more than six hours driving time from east to west. Our districts are a direct result of one party being in control of the state for decades.
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (Republican), Maryland's Sixth District, signed on the very first day HR-1207 was introduced, February 26th, 2009. It was an uphill struggle from that point forward. After repeated heavy lobbying by chapter members, on June 6th Congressman Frank Kratovil (Democrat), Maryland's First District, co-signed as a sponsor onto the legislation.
To help lobby Congressman Ruppersberger the Harford Chapter along with the Baltimore Chapter held a rally/sign-waving at his office in Timonium, Maryland on September 22nd, with almost 200 in attendance. So yesterday, just several days shy of eight months after Dr. Ron Paul introduced HR-1207 we finally have all three of our Congressman on board. Great job everyone.
RALLY AT COUNTY COUNCIL CHAMBERS - OCTOBER 20TH, 2009
Why: To support the repeal of the $8,269 impact tax on homebuyers! They need our support to shrink government! Bring a sign!
Once we convince them to cut taxes, we must remain vigilant, because they will attempt to raise them in the future! This tax is four years old, and it has to go!
Since July 2005, the Harford County government has levied an Impact Tax on every new home construction permit. The idea of the Impact Tax seems noble enough- the money raised from the tax goes into the Harford County Public Schools Capital Budget account so that it must be used only for new school development, property acquisition, or school renovation. These home-buyers are being unfairly double-taxed, this tax is keeping productive construction projects on hold, and this is keeping hard-working Harford County workers out of work on and State Unemployment rolls.
Here in Harford County, we pay property taxes at the County and municipal level. On a home that is assessed at $250,000, the annual County portion of taxes amount to $2,705. This tax amount is the property owner's share of the County Government, including school construction. They move here and are willing to pay this amount, growing at 5% per year. Why should we burden them with an additional tax assigned to them before they get here?
The damage that this "Home Buyer's Tax" does to the thousands of Harford Countians who want to buy homes in the county is far greater than the benefit provided to the HCPS Capital Budget. Without this tax, we will still build new schools, and we will still borrow money through bonds to break up the payments over time. The "Home Buyer's Tax" was imposed only four years ago as a knee-jerk reaction to budget crisis. It is no longer needed.
Supporters of this legislation will challenge the repeal bill as hurting our children. As a former HCPS student, I know that our teachers, students, and facilities are great. I have no doubt that the HCPS will continue to be great without this tax. When people move here, they pay property taxes - that is their portion of the school construction cost.
This Tax isn't about schools; it's about jobs. Our plumbers, electricians, drywallers, roofers, and general contractors are starving for work and this tax is keeping them hungry. Repealing this tax is a great way to stimulate the local economy with no cash outlay required.
I fully support making people pay for costs that they incur. For example, if a new home being built on a farm requires water, sewer, and road construction, there should be a tax levied on the owner to pay for it. But this tax is simply an arbitrary one-size-fits-all approach to generating infrastructure revenue and should be repealed.
Please join me in calling for the Harford County Council to pass Bill 09-29 to repeal the Home Buyer's Tax. The tax is as unfair today as it was four years ago and repealing the tax will create jobs for Harford County. We will be holding a Tax Repeal Rally at the Council Chambers before the County Council meeting on October 20th starting at 6:00PM.
A rally at Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger Timonium office will take place on September 22, 2009 from 5 P.M. to 7:00 P.M... Hundreds of Harford, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel County citizens will show their displeasure with the recent decisions that Rep. Ruppersberger has made while in Washington representing Maryland's Second Congressional District. The congressman voted "yes" for the fall 2008 bailouts of Wall Street financial institutions. He voted "yes" on the bailouts of the automobile industry. He voted "yes" in favor of the $800 Billion Stimulus package. He voted "yes" for the House version of the "Cap and Trade" bill that raises the cost of consumption for all Americans.
Many Harford constituents are tired of calling Dutch's office, asking aides his position on an issue, only to be told "I do not speak for the Congressman". Despite repeated petitioning by his constituents he has not co-sponsored HR 1207, the bill to "Audit the Federal Reserve". As of 8/21 his office was still telling constituents the Congressman is "not familiar with that bill".
Congressman Ruppersberger has been hand-picked by the House Democratic Leadership and named a Whip. In this position he meets regularly with the House leadership, including Nancy Pelosi, to help set Democratic legislative priorities and ensure passage of key bills. As such the Congressman regularly ignores his constituents feedback and votes a strict party line. We can expect more of the same around a final health care bill.
During this August recess the Congressman scheduled no town hall meetings in Baltimore County, Harford County, Baltimore City, etc... He held only an "electronic" town hall meeting. Since the Congressman was unwilling to meet with his constituents let's take the town hall to him on September 22nd and let him know how he is not representing the views of many citizen's in the Second District.
On Tuesday August 11th, 2009 the Harford Chapter of Campaign for Liberty sponsored, along with our Tea Party coalition partners, a very successful rally at the Bel Air office of Representative Frank Kratovil of Maryland's First Congressional District. He recently voted for both the Stimulus Package and the House version of the Cap & Trade bill. Many county residents wanted to make a stand to let him know "We The People" do not want socialized medicine. Kratovil currently favors a "public" option in the health care debate.
About 400 patriots come out and attended the rally on one of the hottest days of the year, with the heat index at 105 degrees. C4L had a table present and collected hundreds of signatures on a health care petition. We also worked hard to keep citizen's that attended hydrated to prevent any participants from having heat related problems. Thousands of cars passed our rally during rush hour and hundreds honked horns in approval of our presence. The Tea Party movement continues to be the "third rail" of Harford politics.
The rally garnered press coverage with an article in our local newspaper the Aegis. We also had coverage on the local Fox affiliate in Baltimore which ran the story on several occasions over two days. A clip of that news report can be seen here:
An interesting side note, there were 4 young teenagers holding up signs that had nothing to do with the rally. Their signs read: "I like Cheese", "My arms are tired", "I'm here for the chicks", etc... Turns out they were associated with members of Kratovil's staff and were reported as supporters of the Democratic in the local newspaper. They tried to make fun of us but it came back and bit them.
Thanks to hundreds of chapter members and supporters who attended this rally.
