Ban the Cameras

Petition Calling the Louisiana Legislation to Ban Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras in Louisiana

Please tell our Legislators to stand up for Louisiana citizens by fully banning the use of automated traffic enforcement cameras in our state.

HB 347 requires local government entities to have the people vote on red light cameras before using them. This bill does not go far enough. While it is true that the city you live in may vote against them, the city you work in and/or your parish may not. Thus still leaving you vulnerable to the violation of your Constitutional rights.

Louisiana Campaign for Liberty is unwilling to support anything less than a statewide ban on the use of these cameras.

Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras are in complete violation of your 5th, 7th, and 14th Amendment rights: due process of law. No police officer to witness the "crime". No judge to plead your case to. Nothing but a picture of your license plate and a "pay or else".

Many times automated traffic enforcement cameras are being installed at intersections with highest traffic flow - not highest rate of incidents, proving that these cameras are being used to generate funds and not, as others claimed, to promote safety. In fact, studies have shown that the rate of accidents increase where the cameras are in use, rather than decrease as politicians claimed would happen.

Politicians in Louisiana, as well as those in municipalities around the state, are desperate to continue their out-of-control spending. Rather than making tough decisions and making cuts, they are raising millions of dollars through the use of these cameras and other nefarious "fees" and bilking Louisiana citizens of their hard-earned money.

Please sign the petition below and let our Legislators know that we will accept nothing less than a statewide ban on these cameras.

Whereas: Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras are a direct violation against the rights of the citizens of Louisiana: and

Whereas: Evidence shows that Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras are being used to generate funds and not to promote safety as claimed: and

Whereas: The state of Louisiana, as well as municipalities throughout the state, continue to seek avenues to fund their out-of-control spending rather than make necessary cuts: and

Whereas: Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras are merely an underhanded means to transfer wealth from the private to the public sector: and

Whereas: Studies have shown that the use of Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras increases accidents, contradicting the claims made by the state for their use and causing further injury to Louisiana citizens:

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned urge our elected officials to fully ban the use of Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras, and discontinue pursuit of compromise legislation.
