Welcome to the Shelby County Campaign for Liberty!
We worked at the Tax Day Tea Party on April 15, 2009 and collected enough signatures and drew enough attention to help persuade Spencer Bachus to co-sponsor H.R. 1207 - Audit the Federal Reserve Act of 2009!
A Local Coordinator is a volunteer who is willing to go door to door in their precinct or neighborhood regarding an issue that affects their neighborhood. The times that people will go door to door are generally prior to an election to hand out information on candidates or issue that will be on the ballot, when there is a community or neighborhool issue that you want to raise awareness about, or just a neighborhood bar-b-que. Local Coordinators are the most valuable people to make a change in elections. There are 180,000 precincts in the country and if we can get 180,000 people who are willing to be Local Coordinators it will be very easy to make a difference in elections.
For instance, if your county has 30 precincts and you have 25-50 people who agree on something that have stepped up to be Local Coordinators it is very easy to get information to people. We all are aware of the problems with the talking box (aka television) and newspapers. Many times they give an opinions and not facts but the people who watch or read them seem to think that they are seeing or hearing facts.
Let's use the example of a new road. If a county wants to put in a new road for the benefit of a company in a neighboring county the currently elected county officials discuss it and how much it will cost. There are usually a few articles in the local paper about it and maybe a talking head will mention it once or twice. The request for the funding is put on the municipal ballot and people are asked to vote for or against it. Just how much information do the voters really have about the issue? Because this is not really a partisan issue the republican and democratic precinct leaders are probably not going to do any canvassing of their precincts to provide information to the people. Republican and Democratic precinct leaders mainly canvass to keep or get back their party's power or dominance.
If there were liberty minded Local Coordinators who would go door to door with information regarding the project the voters would be better informed. Maybe provide a copy of the budget for the highway that shows where the county intends to get the funds from, information that shows the layout of the proposed road, information about who benefits the most from the road, and information about what property the county will intend to take through emininent domain for the project. This information is needed by voters to make informed decisions and they are not going to get it from partisan parties so it us up to us, We The People. The Local Coordinator would also remind people when the election day was and maybe even offer to provide a ride for their neighbors who don't drive.
The Campaign For Liberty Local Coordinator program has great tools and teaching programs to help people learn about their precinct. While not necessary they are EXTEMELY helpful as you learn how many voters you have, how many people vote in the general election verses the municipal elections, which way your neighborhood generally votes, etc. As an active Local Coordinator your neighbors will start to look to you as a source of information after you have canvassed your area a few times. They will recognize you and most are happy that someone has stepped up and is willing to provide them with information that they don't get from the talking box or dying newspapers.
How many of you walked your neighborhood to hand out information regarding Ron Paul? If you could walk your neighborhood to give out information regarding the presidential elections why can't you walk your neighborhood to give out information regarding local issues that directly affect you and your neighbors? To restore constitutional principles to our country we must to restore order to our local governing bodies. To make our voices heard we must stand together. As we work on our local areas as a Local Coordinator we can and will re-awaken the spirit of our country and remind people that what made our country great was less government, not more. Local elections are extremely important to fix the foundation of our government.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. You can message me here if your are logged into the Campaign For Liberty site or here if you are not a member yet. The R3volution continues with people taking action.
Robyn Hamlin MO CD 1 Interim MO State Co-Coordinator
I recently received an email from a fellow Local Coordinator. In part, she wrote:
"We used to have neighborhoods back when we were kids, when mothers stayed home and kids played outside after school, but that world is long gone. I think this is one of the reasons it's such a hard slog.
Some of us have been going door to door with petitions; people don't even answer the door when you knock, even when they're obviously at home. This is happening now, more than it was, but it's slowed by the inherent social decay."
I responded to this Local Coordinator, and I hope this will give all of our Local Coordinators food for thought and encouragement. Here is my message:
I grew up the same way and have fond memories of my neighborhood. I agree that the social structure has decayed, so we need to re-build the social structure first.
Here's what I'm doing -
My first step was to decide to be a "neighborhood watchdog" of sorts. I attended neighborhood meetings, drove the neighborhood to see if there were things that might hurt the value of property, and counted how many homes are being sold on the market. I started talking to my neighbors during my trips around the neighborhood - would wave, stop the car, or stop to chat about these things when I walked.
I had a pizza party at my house for several of my neighbors and we discussed the board actions of the homes association. I walked door to door to get email addresses so I could send tips, news and alerts. I now have 125 email addresses and send a monthly newsletter. I have a crime alert sent to me so I can let my neighbors know about crime happening in and around our neighborhood.
We had a board election for our homes association and some of us walked door to door. Almost all of our neighbors were happy to see us. Two of our candidates won and we had a huge turnout at our annual meeting.
My neighbors email me with tips and their opinions and I've got a much better idea of who might be with us based on our conversations. The value of this cannot be under-estimated. I now have 3 solid conservative neighbors that I know will be active with me, and a few others that I'm cultivating. I know they will help me walk the neighborhood and we are building a network here.
My next neighborhood meeting will be to talk about how to keep our neighborhood safe and maintain property value - these are things that are important to all of us. There will be food, of course - that always brings 'em in.
Note: My next step will be to walk door to door with a survey. It will go something like this: "Hello, again. I'm Deb Wells and live right down the street from you. I will be visiting our government representatives and would like to let them know what is important to you. I have a short survey here....(the survey will contain questions that will let me know who is with us)."
Next will come a local candidate forum where we'll have the opportunity to control the debate.
* * * * * * *
There are different approaches that Local Coordinators use. Some have a "sales" personality - they walk right up, knock on the door, introduce themselves and say "I am the neighborhood representative for Campaign for Liberty" and hand their neighbor a flier, speak eloquently about it, and follow up with another visit.
Some take a slower approach like mine.
Whatever approach you use, there is no feeling like the first time you wave and speak to a friendly neighbor...you suddenly realize deep in your heart that you will be successful because you have begun rebuilding the social structure.
After sending my story to my fellow Local Coordinator, she wrote:
Very interesting. Rebuilding the social structure of the neighborhood will of course have inherent value, quite in addition to providing a framework for getting our message across. One could even posit that the whole "need" for big government is because of the breakdown of the neighborhood, along with the breakdown of the family. In earlier times, one's neighbors and family were the "safety net" that is now provided by the government.
I agree.
It is up to us to build the social structure again and as you begin to do this, soon you will find neighbors who want to help you build, and you'll view your neighborhood and your ability to succeed as a Local Coordinator in a whole different light. Remember: If you know that a person is home but won't open the door, they are probably not interested in their community and more than likely, not interested in voting or making a difference. Spend quality time with friendly neighbors that care - they will become your "army".
Meeting about the Real ID (National ID) Program in Alabama
The Real ID and you: what it is, how it effects you and what you can do about it!
The Alabama legislature is getting ready to convene for the year, and it is time to let them know what the citizens of Alabama need. This is your chance to hear about plans well underway to brand you with a national/global ID database through you Alabama drivers license. Did you know when you renew your drivers license that The Alabama Department of Public Safety will be taking biometric information with your photo without telling you? Find out about this & much more this coming Thurs.!
What’s wrong with a national identity card?
The true problem is not the piece of plastic itself, but the construction of a larger network of identity papers, databases, biometric information, status and identity checks and access control points – in short, what has been called an “internal passport.” If the old driver’s license represented a license to drive – the government’s very specific permission to operate a vehicle on the public roadways – the fear is that the new documents will become tantamount to a license to leave your house.
National IDs would violate privacy by helping to consolidate data. There is an enormous and ever increasing amount of data being collected about Americans today. One’s grocery store, for example, might use a “loyalty card” to keep detailed records of what you buy, while Amazon keeps records of what you read, the airlines keep track of where you fly, and so on. This can be an invasion of privacy, but our privacy has actually been protected by the fact that all this information still remains scattered across many different databases. But once the government, landlords, employers, or other powerful forces gain the ability to draw together all this information, our privacy will really be destroyed. And, that is exactly what a national identity system would facilitate.
A national, ID like Real ID would also facilitate tracking. When a police officer or security guard scans your ID card with his pocket bar-code reader, for example, it will likely create a permanent record of that check, including the time and your location. How long before office buildings, doctors’ offices, gas stations, highway tolls, subways and buses incorporate the ID card into their security or payment systems for greater efficiency? The end result could be a situation where citizens’ movements inside their own country are monitored and recorded through these “internal passports.".

I hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day celebrations. I enjoyed a trip to the lake with great friends, an awesome boat, enough food to feed the entire lake and the greatest weather imaginable. I had stimulating conversations with a surprising amount of libertarian thinking individuals, laughed a lot and had one of the best days I've had in recent memory. I attended church and participated in performing a medley of patriotic music and enjoyed a sermon that almost touched on the Declaration of Independence. I was happy with the suggestion that our country should be concerned with peace from the pulpit. I do enjoy our preacher's sermons. I went to a family cookout at my soon to be son in law's home and truly enjoyed the company of those present. Then I came home and read the Declaration of Independence and watched Judge Andrew Napolitano's Freedom Watch on Fox Business. That is when I found what I had been missing. The true meaning of what we were and are celebrating. Without our founders vision 234 years ago and their pledge to give up all they own, their own lives and fortunes to secure the vision through a Revolution in which they were out numbered and faced almost certain death, we would not have the opportunity to enjoy the weekend we enjoyed. How far our people, states and nation have come from what the Founders secured. I pledge my life and fortune to the same principles as our Founders and I will be proud to stand up for the ideals and liberties they secured. I found that this Independence Day to be my line in the sand. Give me Liberty or give me death.
Congratulations to Campaign for Liberty member Romaine Quinn for winning his neighborhood for Liberty!
As they say, all politics is local. This gentleman has taken these words literally and has decided to take back his own backyard by first serving on his city council, then walking door to door to get elected as mayor.
He took a stand on an issue that was of deep concern to his neighbors and they, in turn, elected him to represent them.
This is a great example of "Winning Your Neighborhood for Liberty" as reflected in our Local Coordinator program. Quinn beat the incumbent mayor with 53 percent of the vote!
Rice Lake Voters Elect 19-Year-Old Mayor
A young man wearing a Hollister T-shirt, shorts and sandals picked up election signs Wednesday in Rice Lake, Wis. The 19-year-old wasn't a campaign volunteer. Romaine Quinn is the new mayor.
Quinn, who served one year on the Rice Lake City Council before being elected mayor on Tuesday, said, "Age, I don't think, necessarily makes a difference, I mean, it's about the issues."
Judging by the talk at Maxine's restaurant, he might be right.
"Apparently, a lot of people wanted change," said 78-year-old Del Hanson, who voted for Quinn.
SB417, Virginia Healthcare Freedom Act, IS A WIN!!!
Congratulations Patriots! You did it!!!
SB417 won on the Senate floor with a vote of 23 - 17. SB283 & SB311 were bundled with SB417 as the language was the same on all three bills, word for word.
There was much debate on the floor, with Senate Democrats putting up quite a fight for a win, but we were able to convince 5 Democrats as well as all 18 Republicans to vote with us in favor of health care freedom for Virginia.
Here are the Democrats who voted with us:
Senator Charles J. Colgan Senator Phillip P. Puckett Senator R. Edward Houck Senator John C. Miller Senator Wm. Roscoe Reynolds
If the House versions also pass later this week and both the Senate and the House bills pass in cross over, the federal health care mandate will be null and void in Virginia. We will keep our choice to purchase any health care plan we wish or not to purchase one at all. Federal authority over our health care choices will be stopped at the border.
Any challenge by the feds of our state sovereignty will be fought in the courts by our new State Attorney General, Ken Cuccninelli, who also supports our bills.
Democrat Senator Phillip Puckett was interviewed by Greta Van Susteren. Here's a video of that interview:
Virginia Senate Bans Forced Universal Healthcare As Unconstitutional !!!
Thank you for all of your hard work. It goes to show what we can do when we commit our time and effort to defending liberty in Virginia.
I first heard of the "Move Your Money" idea here at United Liberty, but I didn't really look into it at the time. I chuckled, though, because I had already made the decision a few months back to move all of my money from SouthTrust-Wachovia-Wells Fargo to the Alabama Credit Union.
Then today Trent forwarded me the video I embeded above, which is just spot on. It's especially neat because I only just saw It's a Wonderful Life for the first time ever two nights ago (and it was great), so everything the video references is fresh on my mind.
It's only four minutes long, so give the video a whirl and see if you don't agree.

Honorable Senator's Sessions and Shelby, and Rep. Mike Rogers,
This is an open letter to Congress that I, on behalf of the people of Alabama whom you are elected to represent in Congress, urge you to please pass along to every member of Congress.
To all Congressmen and Women, elected Officials and other interested parties.
My name is Donna Dawson. I live in Congressional District 3 in Montgomery, Alabama.
I am writing to urge you all to listen to the voices of the persons you have been elected to represent.
I have yet to meet a single person in my district that is not afraid of the speed and supposed urgency with which Congress is determined to pass legislation you do not even have time to read.
I did not elect your aid to read legislation of which you will cast a vote.
I did not elect you to misrepresent the best interests of my family and the constituents in your district.
I did not elect you to misrepresent or ignore The Constitution of the United States of America, yet, as far as the legislation you have passed since you have been elected it appears you have intentions of ignoring what you have promised to uphold.
Your polls are written in a way that would lead you to conclude that most Americans prefer security over Liberty and that is not the case.
We want to decide for ourselves how to raise our families, where to work, if we prefer to have medical insurance or decide to take a risk, we want to decide for ourselves which charities to support and what kind of house we buy, car or truck we drive. We do not need light bulbs in our homes that if we accidentally break, we have to leave home for 15 minutes, dispose of properly or call a hazardous unit to remove for us. We do not need you all to tell us what needs to be done to secure a future for ourselves and our children. We are not that lazy or stupid.
To be sure, many of us have taken for granted our Liberties and have remained apathetic at best and completely ignored what has been happening to our liberties for far too long.
But now our wallets are being affected and that wakes a lot of people up to what else is being affected in our lives due to Government intervention.
We are awake and we are paying attention and we may not be able to use the ballot box because of fraud and gerrymandering Districts, but we will call you constantly, we will peacefully march in front of your offices, we will use what ever is available to us as provided in our Constitution to make sure that everyone we know is aware of your votes and aware of your record while you have been in Congress, and we will prevail.
You all seem to have forgotten that our form of Government is a Republic and uses the rule of law according to the Constitution of the United States and we will be asserting our rights. You have forgotten that you are working for us and not yourselves and we are remembering that in greater numbers each day.
I urge you all to use reason and common sense and vote NO on ALL legislation, with the exception of a YES vote on HR 1207, Audit the Fed in it's original form.
Most particularly, vote NO on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, Bill # HR 2454.
NO on HR 15, Nationalized Health Insurance, Nationalized Health Care.
NO on HR 1388, The Edward M. Kennedy, Serve America Act, or any Nationalization Act of any sort.
For heavens sake vote NO on Sonya Sotomayor as a Supreme Court Justice.
America is broke. We do not want your bankers printing money, we do not wish to borrow more money from other countries, we wish you to do nothing in our "best' interests except to lower taxes. A good idea would be to declare a Federal Income Tax holiday, particularly lower taxes on small business, who by the way employs almost 80% of all America, "butt out" of our privacy and insist on supporting our rights as free persons in a free country.
One more piece of advice I'd like to offer as you all are employed by the people of the sovereign Nation of America, if a piece of legislation has more than 10 pages, has amendments that have nothing to do with the intent of the legislation or hides or adds an amendment, take an oath among yourselves not to even consider it in any discussion, much less vote.
I thank you in advance for taking this letter and many others coming your way into consideration before you do anything. Please gain my respect if you want respect from me.
Sincerely,
Donna Dawson
Montgomery, Alabama
