Hi, I'm Nathan. I served as a precinct leader for the Ron Paul 2008 campaign and organized a state-wide exit polling effort for the 2008 Georgia Presidential Primary. I am now proud to serve as a precinct leader for 02L1 and Interim Fulton County Coordinator. Please join me in spreading the ideals of personal and economic freedom, a non-interventionist foreign policy, sound money, and adherence to the Constitution.

If you have been following the subterfuge that is Barney Frank's handling of HR 1207, you may be a little confused as to what recent events actually mean. Don't go looking to the media for an explanation; they are more interested in blabbering about the drama and the personalities involved than actually reporting on issues of substance.
Here is a brief summary of what is going on, to the best of my knowledge:
The Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology sent the gutted version of HR 1207 back to the Financial Services committee where it was to be rolled into the regulatory nightmare known as HR 3996, the Financial Stability Act of 2009.
Georgians should be pleased that both of our Representatives on the committee, Rep Scott and Rep Price, voted in favor of the Paul-Grayson amendment. Thank them, but know that it was your hard work that got the results.
What now?
Contact your congressional representatives (repeatedly) and politely demand that they support a stand alone vote of HR 1207 and S 604 on the floor of the House and the Senate, respectively. The House Financial Services committee action on Nov 19th means that a meaningful audit of the Federal Reserve is more likely but not guaranteed.
Please take just a couple of minutes to call Representative David Scott (GA-13) and politely demand that he help restore HR 1207. All Georgians should do this step. Here is a sample script:
202-225-2939
Staffer: "Thank you for calling Representative Scott's office.
You: "Hi, my name is ____________ and I am a constiuent here in Georgia. I just wanted to call and thank Representative Scott for co-sponsoring HR 1207."
Staffer: "I'll be sure to pass that along."
You: "I also wanted to ask Representative Scott to reject the gutted version of HR 1207 that the Financial Services sub-committee has submitted. I would like for Representative Scott to help restore the original language of HR 1207 by voting in favor of Representative Paul's amendment."
Staffer: "I'll be sure to pass that along as well."

In case you haven't noticed, the Campaign for Liberty has made Step 4 of the Local Coordinator Training available. But before you can even begin Step 4, you must first complete Step 3: Get to Know Your Elected Officials. To help you along, I have created this short guide explaining How I Completed Step 3:
Like most Americans, I graduated high school (and college) woefully ignorant of the basic structure of my state and local government. How many of you can even recall which state legislative district you live in, much less who your representatives are? Luckily, my Secretary of State's website has a 'poll locator' tool which lists all of the political boundaries that I live in. This information is obviously key to completing this section of the training.
The basic point of this section of training is for local coordinators to educate themselves on local political figures at the city, county, district, and state levels. Obviously Internet search engines are your friend. I found it beneficial to first locate the websites for my city (Atlanta), county (Fulton), and state (Georgia General Assembly/Governor) and to then dig through each website for information. Also, the Campaign for Liberty provides a great resource for identifying your US Congressional delegation.
The training will ask you to research details about each official's political career and most recent race results. In Georgia, the SoS website is your best resource. To find individual race results:
Visit the Election Results page and select the year of interest (start with the latest results and work your way down if you are unsure).
For local city/county races: Download/view the Vote Totals by Precinct information. In Georgia, this may be the only way to research results for some local races ("news" organizations typically don't report the final tally).
For state-wide races. You will need to re-visit the Election Results page for state-wide results.
Search for the elected official by last name. I was surprised by how many of my elected officials ran unopposed!
I hope you found this meager guide helpful. I truly believe that the Campaign for Liberty has provided us with the training and guidance that we need to achieve and defend freedom in our lifetimes. Now we just have to get to work doing it.
Poll: How much of the training have you completed?
In my area it was very difficult to find out who these people were. I found doing foil requests of the petitions that are done to get on the ballot very eye-opening. Until I started to run for office as a total non-partisan independent the process was very unclear to me. Another eye-opening area was reporting my financials to NYS BoE. From that excercise I learned I could find all the local contributors to my local Republican, Democrat, Conservative, etc parties. As with most things people put their money on what is important to them. Made it easier to find out who were the strong local party people. Asking was a waste of time for me.
I hope to get back into completing my local coordinator program, but have actually gotten on the Nov 3rd 2009 ballot......so campaigning the best I can.
I think more of us must try to get in government at the very lowest of levels. Try to re-emphasize that although national and state positions are very important many of us only have the "abilities" or experience to start at the bottom first. YAL is targeting 2010.....but no one seemed interested in 2009. Every year, every election must be faught.

I. What Creature is This? II. A Crash Course on Money III. The New Alchemy IV. A Tale of Three Banks V. The Harvest VI. Time Travel Into the Future
Review:
The Creature from Jekyll Island is an interesting read, and it would be an entertaining read if it simply weren't all true. As a matter of non-fiction, the story is a bit disturbing. Mr. Griffin does an excellent job of weaving together the tale of how Big Business and Big Government colluded together to plunder wealth from the people using the most basic of economic tools: money. The book ends with a cautious message of hope: How we can rid ourselves of a fiat currency and the ills of central banks. At twenty-six chapters comprised of 588 pages (not including the Appendix and Index) the book is long, but any liberty-loving person will find it hard to put down.
Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts regarding the PATRIOT Act. I appreciate hearing from you.
Since its passage following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (PATRIOT) Act has been an integral tool in a number of successful operations to protect innocent Americans from the deadly plans of terrorists dedicated to destroying America and our way of life.
I believe this legislation is consistent with existing civil liberties and embodies a spirit of prevention and balance. The PATRIOT Act streamlines anti-terrorism law so that it is consistent with other areas of criminal enforcement. For example, the legislation allows federal agents to obtain library, medical, or financial records with a court ordered search warrant. These kinds of searches have routinely been granted in other types of criminal investigations. The PATRIOT Act also updated laws to reflect advances in technology. For instance, the legislation allows intelligence officials to employ roving wiretaps. A roving wiretap follows an individual to intercept all calls made, regardless of location, in order to track individuals who change locations frequently to evade authorities. Again, this is already legal in criminal investigations; this bill expands that authority to the intelligence community in an effort to stem terrorism.
The PATRIOT Act contains built-in reporting requirements and sunset provisions to safeguard civil liberties. Three such provisions are due to sunset on December 31, 2009: the provision which allows the government to seek a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) order from a court for an individual suspected of terrorism but who has no known connection to a terrorist organization; the provision regarding roving wiretap authority; and Section 215, which permits the government to seek business records after a FISA court order is sought and approved. The PATRIOT Act was reauthorized in the 109th Congress, (P.L. 109-177) making critical national security provisions permanent, including those that helped in dismantling the pre-9/11 communications barriers between intelligence and law enforcement. Importantly, the reauthorization bill provided additional tools for securing our mass transportation systems and seaports. It also closed loopholes that jeopardized our ability to put a stop to terrorist financing. Finally, the reauthorization bill created a National Security Division at the Department of Justice to further safeguard America against another terrorist attack.
All of the PATRIOT Act provisions are subjected to rigorous congressional oversight. The Department of Justice is required to submit to Congress annual reports on the various provisions in the bill, and multiple congressional committees regularly request additional information to ensure that American's civil liberties are protected and the PATRIOT Act is a useful tool for disrupting terrorism. We have found that the PATRIOT Act has greatly curtailed terrorists' abilities to operate. We are winning the war on terrorism, and we owe much of our success, including the fact that there has not been an attack against the homeland since September 11, 2001, to anti-terrorism legislation like the PATRIOT Act.
I supported passage of the original and reauthorized PATRIOT Act, and continue to monitor its effectiveness in our overall war on terrorism through my work on the Senate Committee on Select Intelligence and the Armed Services Committee. I believe that it is important to equip our intelligence personnel with the means to apprehend criminals who would inflict pain and suffering on our nation. However, the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution is a protection that I and all Americans value highly. I will do everything in my power to protect the civil liberties enjoyed by American citizens, while enabling the intelligence community to do its job.
Wow, and I thought that Saxby had at least a decent view of the real world, non-political landscape. He clearly does not understand what sort of flagrant abuses of freedom that this act enables. As for the "war on terror" that we are "winning", I'm not sure one can wage a war on an emotion, nor a set of religious and cultural ideologies that would more aptly describe what we are fighting. This is a terrifying response to a legitimate question.
