In the past I have considered myself to be a conservative republican and believed that repulicans were in favor of small government and individual responsibility while democrats wanted a big paternal government.

With the recent presidential election and bailouts I have become dissolussioned with the republican party so I began reading more about that odd congressman from Texas.  In my disgust with the condidate choices during the primaries I chose not to follow the potential choices that much so I never bothered to learn much about RP.  I do recall seeing him interviewed a few times and hearing about his campaign's fundraising successes, but I dismissed him as an outside shot with some crazy foreign policy ideas (I really liked his domestic ideas right off the bat, but again, I was fed up with a presidential campain that was lasting for an eternity).  When it came down to my two choices for president, I could not bring myself to vote for either one of them (I admit I prefer mccain, but I am tired of voiting for the lesser of two poor choices) so I began researching RP.  That led me to buying his book and then I was sold.  I feel like in the past I have been living in the dark, when it comes to politics, only knowing what was fed to me by the major news networks and clinging to my thoughts of what both major parties represented.

I feel like we are in a perfect storm for the continued loss of liberty in America.  Bush and republicans in congress had a chance to make big changes in our country and instead they only made things worse.  This has handed all the power to the most liberal democrats and given them a mandate to impose their socialist ideals on all Americans.  I hope and pray that the liberty message will continue to grow and combat the further loss of freedom in America.

Hopefully these will be words of encouragement to others here.

I've always believed that a limited government is better, but tended to always filter things as democrat/liberal or republican/conservative.  It was one or the other.  Now, after learning of Ron Paul this last election, reading his book, other books, this sight, mises.org... I filter things through liberty and freedom.  Almost everying I see in the news now has me thinking "how is this going to affect our liberty and freedoms?"  In some cases it's scary, because so many things in the news are things that are limiting our freedoms.  However, I am encourage with by my own experience and the belief that others have had the same/similar experience that this movenment will continue to grow.  As RP says, "people love freedom" (that may be a paraphrase).  Thank you to RP and everyone here who is working to protect our liberty and freedom!

Thank you for sharing, I have a similar story to yours about RP, I think most people probably do...I thought he was this crazy, off the wall, no chance in hell of winning candidate who wanted to get rid of the IRS, and much more. Now after reading his book, "The Revolution," I now understand and completely agree with his policy. I look forward to more posts, and talking with you later.

I too share a similar "freedom" mind frame.
