I think its easy once you get involved in politics it is easy to lose sight of the forest through the trees. For many people who read the C4L page and participate in liberty oriented politics often focus on things nationally that affect us all, but when it comes down to it local politics has more of an affect on your daily life than anything. HR 1207 is a perfect example of what we can accomplish when we attack the right issue at the right time with the right message. For people locally in St. Paul with me, I think that issue right now is Eva Ng's campaign for Mayor.
St. Paul is a city rich with history, but in the last 40 years the leadership in the city has worked very hard to make it a government town. Taxes are through the roof, buildings vacated by private business are being filled with bureaucrats, and University Ave, our last bastion of Small Business, now on the verge of being ruined by light rail transit. The sad part is, all of this is done in the name of progress. The way I see it, we have two choices.
The first choice, my least favorite, it so re-elect the same tired machine DFL hacks and Ideologues who think nothing of raising property taxes 40% over 4 years, and somehow manage to still require millions in State Aid and Federal Stimulus to pay for Police and Fire services. They also managed to increase the City Budget (before LGA and Federal Aid) to a staggering 550 million dollars (Up nearly 40%) and still struggle to pay for basic services. What are our priorities? Why do we need a City Water Park at Como Zoo when we can't pay for Cops?
The second choice, my favorite choice, is to work and vote for Eva Ng. She spent a lifetime in successful private business and has earned a stellar reputation as a corporate turnaround specialist. As an immigrant from China, Eva has learned to appreciate the opportunities available to Americans that simply do not exist in other parts of the world. If you combine her positive attitude about reducing the burdens on businesses and long history of making unprofitable businesses thrive, I think she would be a stellar Mayor and well worth anyone's time to go our there and help.
So, please, if you happen along to this blog, check out evaformayor.com and learn about what she can bring to St. Paul

tholton11 Saint Paul, MN | how did the meeting go? did we get a good turn out?
Btw, I have a question: I am trying to convert my friend to our views, but he keeps asking broad questions such as
"but whats wrong with government, they regulate everything right?"
I am dumbfounded at these questions broadness, and have no idea how to answer.
