I am the father of two young children (Sarah and Drew), the husband of a small business owner, and a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®).  In addition to being a student of the financial markets, I enjoy learning about history and economics (preferably of the Austrian flavor). 

I'm active in our local Republican caucus with a keen interest in influencing fiscal responsibility among our elected officials.  I frankly don't know why so few understand, with 90% of our nation's net worth tied up in unfunded liabilities (Medicare, etc.), national debt over $10 trillion, and annual budget deficits now exceeding $1 trillion the issue should be quite clear.  Nevertheless we have our work cut out for us.

I firmly believe that free markets and fiscally restrained governments are the key to individual liberty.  Unfortunately, both parties have marched us farther and farther away from those founding principals.  Now, if only we can get every bleeding heart who cries "it's for the children" to understand that each and every additional dollar government spends adds hundreds of dollars to the liabilities that those children will face, perhaps we could begin to see some fiscal foresightedness.  One can dream...
