I’m Dan Douglass, editor of Hawaii Liberty Chronicles.  If you asked me what I intended to do for the eighteen months that followed April of last year, I would have told you something very different from what has happened.

I did not expect my core convictions to be stirred to action as they have. In my profession I have normally avoided discussion of controversial ideas. The ideas and actions that free the economically oppressed are what I now promote as Policy Analyst for Hope For Hawaii. In July 2007 the Honolulu Star Bulletin published my first letter to the editor. I had no idea I would write over 30 pieces that would be published through various media outlets.

I did not expect to get involved in the self-organized grassroots local Ron Paul campaign. I ended up organizing the largest and most active group in Hawaii, received nationally recognized campaign management training and became the Hawaii State Coordinator for the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign Committee.

With many others, I did not expect to be neck deep in Hawaii Republican Party controversy during platform committee meetings and the state convention. A year and a half ago I had no reason to be in any party. Nevertheless, an uprising of concerned freedom oriented citizens determined to take action to restore principles that had been abandoned by the state GOP led to the party leadership’s trembling and a shameless display of disregard for oversight and voter equity.

I did not expect to play any role in a movement opposing the biggest government waste project in our City & County of Honolulu’s history- rail transit. I began studying the issue in February. By March I released my first commentary on rail transit. By April I released six more rail pieces, earned some media on KHON, testified to the City Council and participated in the initiative drive launch. By July my role with Stop Rail Now was Campaign Coordinator. Mayor Hannemann doesn’t want to believe it, but this corporatist redevelopment rip-off he fancies is on the brink of failure thanks to the dedicated local efforts of our County’s concerned and common sense minded citizens.

This leads me to the latest unexpected endeavor. Hawaii Liberty Chronicles is a freedom oriented site dedicated to honest and open journalism, the exposure of truth and the submission of facts to a candid Hawaii and world.

In my study of histories and brief experience in being a part of it locally, it’s ultimately truth that frees and the message of freedom that stirs men, women and children to great actions. Right now in our Hawaii history we are at economical, political and social crossroads that will lead to either further oppression of the following generation through more failed state regulations and theft-based, redistributionist policy or will free and inspire the next generation to personal responsibility, entrepreneurialism and honest market-oriented solutions from local to international levels. It is my desire to see Hawaii Liberty Chronicles have an effective role in promoting truth, freedom and great actions.

Hawaii Liberty Chronicles’ columnists share similar philosophy and determination to see economical and political improvements in our Hawaii.

Dan, I read of the universal healthcare failure for children in Hawaii--that most parents canceled their coverage for the state coverage and it caused such a deficit, it crashed.
Think that will happen if U.S. goes Universal??
I think everyone can't have something for nothing--regardles of the program, when the government is involved, there will be corruption and waste.
That's what got us where we are now.
Government intervention/control isn't an answer to anything--common sense oversight, regulation and supervision prudently handled is needed without submitting to dictatorship.

A lot of bad bills are passed and then signed into law here in Hawaii. Some of the worst in the nation. We have some of the biggest mountains to move in our islands.

Dan can you tell me why you oppose the new rail plans in Honolulu?

Honolulu rail would be the biggest government waste project to ever break ground in our county.

One of the sad events I recently witnessed was the departure of the Hawaii superferry. This was an inexpensive mode of transporatation between islands that would have been helpful to many people and businesses. What better way to do an evironmental impact study for the superferry than to do real live trips and monitor the results? Fact rather than fiction to determine the impact of the superferry on the environment. The superferry is gone because we as a people no longer have the spirit to grab onto a good opportunity to better our condition and run with it. We have to be careful how we use "rule of law." Rule of law can be an opposition to Liberty. We lack a good mode of transport between islands when it comes to commerce between islands. The Superferry filled this gap. Sadly we screwed ourselves by the people remianing silent when a few (minority) raised their voices against the ferry and took it to court. And our worthless self interested leaders did not listen to the people who raised up and contacted them to do something to save the superferry. Talk about taxation without representation. I am for constitutional government. We can never have that until we install constitutional minded people into government. That means the voters have to be constitutional minded to elect constitutional minded people into office. I am grateful to see so many young people joining the Campaign for Liberty and working for this end. Good luck to you. I have faith in you. But remember this will become a hard and bitter battle. I have in my lifetime observed two types of people in our american society. One type believes in "live and let live." I am of this type. The other type is controllers and busy bodies that get involved in other peoples business and want to change them. These are the type that are electing the people that are taking our rights away. Confronting these people will take more than tea parties. It takes courage to live a life of liberty. It takes telling that busybody where to go where the sun don't shine. Aloha

Dan,
Regarding the federal governments attempt at "Health Care Reform."

I've read that even if something is passed, it won't be implemented until 2013. If that is the case, we need to find brave congressman and senators that will attach an amendment to whatever bill comes out of the house or senate. That amendment would simply mandate a trial phase-in period in which all Federal (Congress & President included), State, County and Municipality employees would be the first people enrolled in the system.

How could anyone deny this? Government is the biggest employer in the country. Let them try to manage something like this with their own employees before imposing it on the rest of us.

Aloha,
Drew

Starting at 4:21 Hawaii Ron Paul supporter, Russell McGuire, has a good back and forth with Rep. Neil Abercrombie.  Note McGuire thanks Abercrombie for co-sponsoring HR1207.

Great op-ed just sent in to me.  Be sure to send your H.R. 1207 op-eds to the the Honolulu Adverstiser, Honolulu Star Bulletin, MidWeek, Hawaii Tribune Herald, Honolulu Weekly and  Hawaii Reporter.

In the coming weeks, Congress will vote on a bill that will increase transparency of Government in the most crucial of areas, money creation.  H.R. 1207, the Audit the Fed Bill, will require the Federal Reserve Bank to disclose where it distributes newly created money.

Money creation by the Federal Reserve increases the prices we pay for goods by inflation. The more money created, the higher prices will go. The money supply has roughly doubled since we first embarked on bailing out different industries to avert a deeper recession.

This bailout will hurt the poor and middle class most as they see prices they pay for gas, food, and clothing rise until they are nearly double what they were last year. This will not happen right away, but Economics tells us when the money supply doubles, prices will double.

Unfortunately for Hawaii, only Neil Abercrombie has signed up to be a co-sponsor of H.R. 1207, please contact Mazie Hirono and ask her to support H.R. 1207. If Mazie Hirono can’t protect Hawaiians, perhaps we should replace her with someone that will.
