Tenth Amendment and Resolutions
Mike Rothfeld (Grassroots activist trainer) provided his take on Tenth Amendment resolutions. Basically, he stated that:
1. A resolution is a waste of time because it doesn't affect law or use of funds. 2. A resolution can actually be dangerous because it allows politicians to sign something that doesn't affect law, but that they can use to crow about, and then blatantly ignore. 3. Inserting tenth amendment language into legislation that affects law can be effective (for example, the recent Dangerous ID and Animal ID legislation).
Here's a good example of 10th Amendment legislation with teeth....

Poll: If this election was in Wisconsin, who would you vote for?
I know I have heard how to reason this one out before.
When there is a conservative, a rich liberal Republican, and a Democrat we must back the person with the best chance of defeating the Democrat. This is always the one with the most money and least morals.
So, to defeat the Democrats and their liberal agenda the conservative must exit the race because then every one who is not a card carrying Democrat will vote for a Republican who is more liberal than the Democrat, otherwise conservatism will lose.
Honestly, I wish there were more races with a third party choice. I'd rather throw my vote away on a long-shot whom I share some interests than having to chose the lesser of two evils.
If you take a look at the polls, the conservative party candidate is actually winning in one and close in the others:

I have been contacted by Steve Burns, Program Director of Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice. He has ask that we support the Assembly Bill 203 to stop the illegal deployment of the Wisconsin National guard to Iraq. You can find out more information about the Wisconsin campaign here... with a list of endorsing organizations here...
I would like to put this to a vote by our members to determne if this is something that we would like to support, please vote in the poll here and voice your opinion in the comments. I will leave this poll open for one week. We will need 2/3's of votes to go towards supporting the "Bring the Guard Home" if we are going to support it.
Poll: Should Wisconsin C4L support "Bring the Guard Home" - Assembly Bill 203
I believe that this is something that we should support, the deployment of the national guard over seas is unconstitutional and that is all I feel needs to be said.
Hope it was okay for me to vote - I'm from MO. However, this is an issue all of the states need to address. We should find a way to prohibit the use of the national guard to fight overseas wars, especially when they are undeclared.
This is state legislation? If so, yes, as this would be revolutionary. The states have every right to defend the Constitution, and fighting an unconstitutional war is every freedom-lover's concern.
I think we should be bringing our troops back from every where. I dont belive we should be the police to the world and the security force for big business. While were at it get out of the UN and get the UN out of the US!
Prior to Iran/Afghanistan I don't think we ever sent the national guard outside the US.
I tried asking this when I first heard that National Guard members were being deployed the same as reserves. Like many issues I can't recall ever getting an actual answer and after awhile you move on.
My basic understanding of the National Guard is that they were supposed to be dedicated entirely to security within our nations borders. But as I often find to be the case it's only a handful of us idealistic dreamers who care about little things like definitions, precedent, and laws.
I whole-heartedly agree with the sentiment behind this bill, but question its effectiveness.
The bill requires that the Governor certify as legal all federal orders activating the WI National Guard. The problem is that, starting with the “Dick Act” of 1903, the National Guard has been almost completely federalized. < http://www.thenewamerican.com/history/american/855>
After citing the various laws and judicial decisions that have lead us to this point, the above article states, “Guard units . . . still bear the name of their respective states, i.e. the Idaho National Guard, and they still perform functions for their respective states. But it is now clear that they are federal forces first, state forces only second, and only at the sufferance of the federal government.”
What benefit is there in having the Governor determine the legality of a deployment when the law itself – unconstitutional though it may be -- already authorizes the President to use the Guard as simply another active duty unit? It seems like our efforts are better spent working to overturn 100+ years of unconstitutional judicial decisions and legislation, and restore the Guard to militia-like status under the Governor as prescribed in the Constitution.
But even a constitutional militia can be federalized. Article I, Section 8 allows for the Congress to organize, arm, discipline, and call forth the militia, and once they have been called into federal service, they are under the command of the President. Nevertheless, that situation was preferable compared to now.
Holy crap....
Did anybody happen to look at the list of endorsing organizations for this legislation before you voted or did you just hit the yes button?
The list of endorsing organizations that is linked above looks like a "Who's Who" of groupies for the Obama Apology Tour...Just sayin..
I would like to remind fellow patriots to not let the statists get away with marginalizing the most important holiday of the year by renaming it the "4th of July." This is making our awesome "Independence Day" less worthy of the fantastic celebration and reflection it deserves.
Please remind everyone you come across that uses the lesser name the value in our nation's independence and winning the fight for the truths we hold so dear.
That's a good point to make. I began seeing the difference between "Independence Day" and "July 4th" in the past couple of years. I think it's terrible that what happens on Independence Day is an all-out glorification of the current war state.
Interestingly, I wrote something along these lines last year at this time:
http://uncouthruminations.blogspot.com/2008/07/thoughts-on-4th.html
Yes I agree. For about the past 20 years I have tried to remember to refute the pop culture term "fourth of July" and embrace our "Independence Day", taking opportunity to remind (not correct) others of this point.
Personally I call it July 4th or 4th of July. For the real day of Independence was July 2nd, 1776, this being when the Lee Resolution passed and independence declared for the Colonies by the Congress. Only thing that happened on the 4th was that the Declaration was passed and signed by Hancock stating the reasons that the Lee Resolution was passed. So I guess I celebrate Independence Day 2 days earlier then the National holiday.
