In my thirty years on Active Duty it was frequently my honor to administer this oath to Officers, Sailors and Marines. With one hand raised and the other firmly on the Bible we together recited those words spoken by those that had gone before us. "I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. The enlisted oath differs slightly and some chose to affirm their oath, others chose another holy book but each of us swore, with Gods help, to protect the Constitution.
Shedding ones blood in protection of our Constitution must seem foolhardy to you Senators, Veteran members excepted. The Signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, our service men and women pledge their lives, while you put nothing at risk. Each American who serves in the military writes a blank check payable on demand. By your vote, the check they offer in protection of the Constitution is cashed; some for an eye, a limb, a life or simply their youth. You have made the same oath! Every vote that you cast on the floor of the Senate should reflect the gravity of commitment of the Signers and members of the military, bring honor upon your oath to protect that same Constitution and provide the promise of liberty to our posterity.
This evening I watched appalled as the House of Representatives passed legislation that, if allowed stand, will perpetrate an act of tyranny against the American people unseen since the imposition of the New Deal. This bill, like many of the actions that you have voted to enact, is contrary to the Constitution you have sworn to defend. Nothing in the Constitution give you the right to buy car companies, pay off unions, or monopolize health care. The enumerated powers clause defines the bounds of the federal government I suggest that you use it as the litmus test for even considering legislation. Will you find the courage to honor your oath and strike it down or will you put yourself or your party above the liberty of the American people and allow it to stand?
I am sickened by the direction that you are leading this great nation. I am ashamed by your divisiveness by party and caucus, have you forgotten that you are first an American? We are a nation of laws but you have trampled them, we are a nation of moral people but you tolerate the amoral in our Senate, as a people we believe that God gives our liberty rights and you have pushed Him aside to appease the few. One cannot help but assume that each of you is so covered in the fetid filth of your own corruption that you dare not censure others for fear of reprisal! Why else would you countenance such actions?
Clean up your own house. Honor your constitutional oath. Follow the lead of President Washington and go home after two terms and tend your farm.
For Liberty,
Richard H. Hendren

 moondog 67 2000 Cheboygan, MI | You got it right on the barrel head! They do not understand the forces that wait. I have friends telling me about things that are about to happen with putting up arms against our government by the countries mallitia's and so forth. This may be a truely bad time for us. I use to laugh and kind of scoff at the fact that we would ever see a time where the american people had to bring up arms against their own government. I tried to help with the bureaucratic part, but I can not take up arms as they do. But I do hope for the best to happen for all of our sakes if this does go that far. God Bless the real Americans and for Liberty and Freedom for All. |

We just watched as the president of our country essentially fired the CEO of a private company. The public argument being that as the government had a significant investment in the company he was simply looking out for our welfare. Should we all be worried about our jobs? As a student of our Constitution I could find nothing written in it that empowers any member of our government to take such strident action. Yet it is the sole document that protects Congress from the president taking like action against them should their performance displease him. It is a bitter Irony that the very executives that plunged our nation into this sea of debt through abuse of the Constitution are so well protected by it. Please write your representatives and demand that they respect and execute faithfully the powers that We the People ceded to them through the Constitution and leave to us and our states those not specifically granted them. Remind them of their oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic (ask if they even remember the part where with a hand on the bible they beseeched Him for His guidance "so help me God".

This evening I called a dear friend to check on her daughter, who is like my little sister, going through chemo for breast cancer. The daughter was out with friends so I got to check on Mom. We discussed my son who was back in D.C. for the inauguration with the Colony High Marching Band from Wasilla Alaska. The conversation turned to President Obama and the changes he would effect while in office. I made the argument that he had made no significant changes in either the Illinois Senate or the US Senate and while I had little hope that he could foster enduring change in our country, I wished him the best. I further explained that we had trampled our constitution in a misguided effort to insure our safety, her response was simply "I am willing to trade my freedom for safety" She went on to state that she had no problem letting federal agents tap her phones or enter her home as long as her children and grandchildren were kept safe.
Am I lost ... I spent 30 years in the military sworn not to protect my country or its people but the Constitution that guides it. Yet today Americans are more afraid of distant terrorist than they are the government as it robs us of our freedom. Our constitution protects us from the tyranny of government only if we observe it...let not those lives given to protect it be for not!
Please talk to anyone that will listen, share the vision of our founders and the great roadmap they left us, push back against the growth of government that wants to be everything to all people!!

 primus Wasilla, AK | Rich,
Good post. I have heard some of the same non-sense from family members. It's like they think we live in an episode of '24', where neferious terrorists are around every corner with a plot to blow up the world. No one seems to want to take any sort of accountable for what the CIA defines as 'blow-back' from our misguided foriegn policy. |

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.
~Mark Twain
"That system is our enemy...You have to understand most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it." from The Matrix
This is a quote worth reading and holding onto...let it sink in!
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
~~~ The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 to 2005, Former Pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN ~~~
"If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid. We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the cabinet departments, most of the agencies, and most of the budget. The government would be small, frugal, and limited." Congressman Ron Paul (1998)
"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." – Plato
Living in Alaska gives one a unique perspective of the true cost of states that live on the federal dole. Alaska receives more money per capita than any state in the union and is standing in line with its hand out for the manna that will be distributed in the "stimulus". We pay for each dollar with our liberty.
Much of our land is held by the federal government, many of our resources managed by Washington and our education system is bound by cumbersome federal standards.
We need to step away from the trough and start figuring out how to live without federal monies. A start would be to take control of the lands and resources that our Creator endowed us with, leaving to the fed only those lands that are specifically granted by the constitution. We also need to invest in ourselves by developing Alaskan resources for the benefit of Alaskans.
Yesterday I watched in disgust as senator after senator lauded Senator Clinton's abilities and experience while steadily pitching her softball questions during her confirmation hearing.
We are about to have as our Secretary of State a person who lied to all of us about arriving in Bosnia under sniper fire.
If we allow liars and other scoundrels to run our nation we will get exactly what we deserve. Our Congress lacks the courage and integrity to police itself! We must hold them accountable.
