Born and raised in New Jersey,   I went to college in Pennsylvania and upon graduation I moved to California.  Here I met my wife, of almost 10 years.  We live in rural Sonoma County with our son.  We have dogs, cat, chickens, gardens and plenty of peace and quiet.  Then Ron Paul came along, and BAM; I now a political activist working hard to lessen government encroachment upon our natural born freedoms; from the local school district level to the state level.

I have always been a political junkie.  I can remember paying attention to presidential elections since Bush and Dukakis, when I was only 11 or so.  My father's dinner table was full of discussions, on the brink of full blown disagreements, about politics.  He was once a city councilman and mayor and had worked on election campaigns at the state level.  He had a passion for politics, which gratefully, he passed on to me.

I first registered as a Republican when I turned 18.  I only voted once or twice before going off to college.  In college, I had a really good time, making it last 5 years.  I graduated with a BA in Political Science.  During my poly sci studies, I learned a tremendous amount about the evils of capitalism and the glories of collectivism.  I graduated a Green Party long haired hippie.

I soon moved out to California and met my wife.  We lived in Berkeley and then Oakland where we bought a home, while worked as a painting contractor.  I soon recognized my conservative roots when I came to realize how many taxes and insurances a home and business owner must deal with.  Ridiculous.

After my son was born, my wife and I decided to move from the  life in Oakland to the rural life in Sonoma County.   See I am a hippie, a fan of the Grateful Dead and Phish, .  I believe in freedom.  Being a hippie, to me, meant being non conformist, anti-establishment and against forms of control.  Just wanting to live my life.....Live Free!  I was a registered Libertarian and then independent all the while discovering more of my libertarian yearnings everyday.  You know...taxation is theft, hard currency and  legalizing freedoms.

Then, Ron Paul came along!  After hearing him and the message of Liberty and the Constitution, I woke up.  I found an elected Republican speaking the truth.

I quickly registered to be a Republican and joined the grass roots Ron Paul Campaign for President.  After the February Primary loss, I charged forward.  I started attending my local school board and my local Republican Party meetings.  One year later, I am a Trustee on the Gravenstein Union School Board and I am on the executive board of the Sonoma County Republican Party.  In August of 2008, I started a Sonoma County affiliate of the Republican Liberty Caucus of California.  The caucus has become the home for Ron Paul Republicans and Barry Goldwater types, the libertarians and constitutionalists of the party.  We are the activists for the local party.  When there is precinct work to be done.  In February or 2009, I was also elected as the Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of California.

So, now I am a very busy man.  I have a wife and toddler that make it all worth wild.  I get paid as a painting contractor yet volunteer helping to Restore our Republic.

Well, out here on the west coast we held a rally in San Francisco on September 15th, Audit the Fed Mass Action Day.

We set up camp in Civic Center Park, downtown San Francisco, directly across the street from San Francisco's City Hall and just across the park from both the state and federal buildings.

The city of San Francisco gave us a 3 hour permit with 1 hour sound, so  Tin Lieu, from Sacramento County, brought down a professional sound system that overflowed the civic center park with excerpts from all the famous audit clips on fed you tube.  The sound drew alot of attention.  Thanks Tin!

With 3 tables full of petitions, audit the fed slims, Campaign for Liberty material plus merchandise, we successfully sustained a small but steady crowd.

After an hour or so of rallying and petition signing, the crew marched over to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's office.   After a short rally, Sonoma County's David Ewing and Sacramento County's Tom Davenport delivered the petitions to the Speaker of the House's office.

We then split off in to 2 teams to deliver our petitions to Senator Boxer and Feinstein.  San Francisco's John Dennis delivered to Senator Boxer while Contra Costa's Jun Dam delivered to Senator Feinstein.

When all is said and done, we delivered 2,500 petitons to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Senator Boxer and Senator Feinstein at their San Francisco offices.

At the same time in Southern California, San Bernardino's Adam Cabrera delivered nearly 500 petitions, from all over the LA area, to both Senator Boxer and Feinstein.   Fresno's Dan Moreno delivered petitions in Fresno and Riverside's Ryan Magnon in San Diego.

The Bear Republic delivered over 3,300 petitons to both our Senators and the Speaker of the House!  Audit the Fed!!

** A special thanks goes out to  everyone who showed up and helped out in their own way; and all those who mailed their petitions in on time.  Job well done.

Last night, at our monthly Sonoma County Republican Party meeting, I introduced a resolution of support for Senate bill 604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009.  Overwhelmimgly, the resolution passed.

As many remember, 5 months ago, the Sonoma County Republican Party passed a resolution in support of Ron Paul's HR 1207, with some stiff opposition.  This time around, our opposititon had decided it was not worth it to organize .

(On a side note, our County Chairman was a co sponosor of this resolution.  In fact, he has sponsored, with the Alameda County Republican Party Chairman, a resolution in support of both HR 1207 and S. 604 at the California Republican Party Convention.  Read all about that resolution here.)

I introduced the resolution in terms of continuity.  We passed a resolution on HR 1207 very early on, and now that HR 1207 has nearly 2/3 the Congress and all the Congressional Republicans as co sponsors, it is time we offficially support the Senate version.

Below you will find the text of the resolution. (Thanks again to Alameda County who passed a similar resolution 2 months ago.)

Whereas, we, as Members of the Sonoma County Republican Party applaud transparency and accountability in government and reject government secrecy involving monetary policy that impacts the entire economy; and

Whereas, serious discussions of proposals to oversee and audit the Federal Reserve are long overdue; and

Whereas, the Federal Reserve can enter into agreements with foreign governments and foreign central banks and the United States Congress is prohibited from overseeing these agreements; and

Whereas, we, as Members of the Sonoma County Republican Party, believe agreements made by the Federal Reserve with foreign powers and foreign banking institutions should be subject to Congressional oversight; and

Whereas, the United States Constitution, gives the United States Congress the authority to coin Money and regulate the value thereof; and

Whereas, auditing the Federal Reserve will allow Congress to assert its constitutional authority over monetary policy and help to protect the value of the United States dollar;

Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Members of the Sonoma County Republican Party, in defense of the United States Constitution, STRONGLY URGE the Senators of the 111th United States Congress to support the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009.

On Monday, August 31st, Congresswoman Lynne Woolsey held a townhall meeting on healthcare in Petaluma, Ca.  The auditorium that the event was held was standing room only.  The crowd was pretty well divided between pro government healthcare and pro free market private healthcare.

In the parking lot prior to the event, C4Lers Art Dickinson, David Ewing, Roy Lamoreaux and I canvassed those in attendance with S. 604 petitions.  We succesfully collected over 50 petitions within an hour or so.  It is an easy sell.  Congresswoman Lynne Woolsey was an early consponsor and so is Congressman Tom McClintock (a Ca Republican Favorite).  Just depends on who you are talking to.

Inside, Roy and I waited well over an hour to speak.

First, on behalf of C4L,  I thanked Congresswoman Lynne Woolsey for being an early co sponsor to HR 1207.  Secondly, I asked her, as a believer in the need to audit the fed, and as a citizen of California, to urge our Senators, Boxer and Feinstein, to co sponsor S. 604.

(it was exciting to hear how many folks in the auditorium hollered in agreement!!)

I then, ask Lynne Woolsey, if she could give me any example of a private company successfully competing against a government company in the free market.  She was unable to answer this.  I then reminded her that,   Medicare was once a government run company (public option) competing against private insurance companies.  She loudly cheered, Medicare just rose to the top as the best provider.

It is amazing how my Congresswoman saw no concern that a public option may end up just as Medicare has, a government run company with unlimited resources destroying all private competition.  And bankrupt.

But it was a successful night for the Campaign for Liberty.  We collected S 604 petitions and spoke on the need to Audit the Fed to hundreds of concerned citizens.

The above picture is from our local newspaper, the Press Democrat.

Nice picture Matt! And good work to all of you up there for gathering signatures!

It's sad that anyone would promote Medicare/Medicaid as a success. Sure, it's a government option, but it's also a doomed program. It's an unfunded liability in the amount of over 39.7 TRILLION DOLLARS!

Thanks for the post - glad you're our CA State Coordinator!

Medicare the best provider? How can they be the best provider when they are broke and at some point will no longer be able to provide any medical care? I'm beginning to think some of these congress people are delusional.

Excellent work getting the message out!

Thank you guys for standing up for liberty. It's what we do!

It's pathetic that anyone would hold up Medicare as a shining example, when it destroys the free market, greatly increases our tax burden, is an inefficient government bureaucracy, and it's bankrupt and unsustainable. I guess, no problem, the government will just conjure more money out of thin air to fund Medicare indefinitely, huh? We can always fund Medicare via the hidden inflation tax.

As you can see from my avatar, I'm all about ending The Fed, but just remember that few people in society at large even know what "The Fed" is. More are learning every day, but whenever "End The Fed" shirts or signs are shown in a newspaper without a contextual explanation, most people are going to assume it advocates ending the federal government. That's already been exploited by the media to discredit the liberty movement and depict us as anarchists.

I'm not making any specific recommendations. I like the End The Fed message. I do try to be mindful of how those who are still ignorant about such matters will interpret the message, though.

Keep up the good work out there on the west coast. You're on one of the key liberty battlefronts, where many want to enable more and bigger government.

Well, it has been a week since the Campaign for Liberty Regional Conference in Las Vegas; and what a great time we had.  A large number of Californian C4Lers converged on Las Vegas. Friday night was highlighted with speeches from Tom Woods and Ron Paul.

Saturday and Sunday was chalk full of valuable training.  Between Mike Rothfeld, Kirk Shelley, John Tate and Jeff Greenspan, those in attendance learned learned how to successfully win in grassroots politics.  Lessons covered the nature of politics, tactics, strategies, media, vetting of candidates and meeting and caucus presence.  I know I am now better prepared to win in my precinct and county.

Sunday afternoon gave California a chance to hold its first statewide Campaign for Liberty meeting

We had representatives from counties all over the state; Alameda, Fresno, LA, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernadino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma.  Californians had a chance to listen to C4L leaders from around the state speak about their successes and stories.

There are a lot of exciting things going on with the Liberty Movement in California.  C4L members are having great success with organizing rallies, exhibitor booths at gun shows and tea parties; and a large number of members are either attending or are very interested in attending and getting involved with their local political parties.  We had a great chance to sit down and network.  Watch out California politics.

Now is the time to step up and become a local coordinator.  Local coordinator development throughout all of California is the key to saving our Bear Republic.  Becoming a local coordinator allows you to receive FREE online grassroots political training as well as a 20% discount at the C4L online store.  The online training is an essential tool for winning back your precinct and district.  You will learn all you need to know about the who's, what's, where's and why's about your area.

California's Campaign for Liberty is roaring to go, become a local coordinator today and Be a part of it.

A special thanks goes out to Martin Anding, Allan Bartlett, Adam Cabrera, John Dennis, Andrew Dirks, David Ewing, Jordan Shollenbarger , Robert Vaughn, Steve Wayte, Brennan Westersen, Dave Whitaker and Rob Woodard for all your help during the weekend.  It couldn't have been so successful without you.  Great Job!
