Matt Collins's weblog
Well some things have taken place see this - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=179144
It's very likely that not only will we win the local county Republican Party chair posotion, but that we'll also get most of the slots on the executive committee filled with fellow limited-government conservative Republicans. In other words we'll probably run our local county party.
If that happens, then what? What should we do? Ideas? Suggestions?

roserty Orem, UT | This is where we should be working, I think, on the local level. Let's face it, most of our senators and house representatives in the federal government are not listening to us. But we can make changes on the local level.
I suggest just continue fighting for liberty once you've gotten a majority in the county party. It'll spread from there. |

JonCampbell Kingsport, TN | I think everyone will agree that just because you're a Republican doesn't mean your liberty-minded. Getting liberty-minded legislators is as important a task as holding positions in the party. What if we have a Bush Republican? How do we get our executive committe behind a Paul Republican? What if the Libertarian is the better choice? I see your what should we do question and raise you a how do we influence the rest of the committee? |

tobismom Nashville, TN | Having lived in Davidson County for a long, long time, I would suggest that we target some small (voting-wise) districts that are underrepresented in the TN House and Senate. Find issues that resonate with voters in those areas and get qualified candidates on the ballot. Unless we have deep pockets, the next thing would be boots on the ground. Constitutionally conservative candidates have been ignored by the media, and I think some areas are virtually up for grabs if we can get people to create some noise.
While we would not support federal interference in education, what should be the stated postion from a state or local perspective? Do we need to look as closely at city council or school board? Not expressing an opinion, but just asking questions.
While we do not support current federal tax legislation, what do we want to say about local and state taxes? Removing the sales tax on food would be huge.
The gas shortage last fall was also another biggie. What does our message need to be with regard to transportation? What will Davidson County be willing to support, or not support? A lot of pressure is being brought to bear from surrounding counties about improving ingress and egress from Nashville. I have an opinion, but that's beside the point.
Those are three key issues we need to think about. A freedom lover understands that these are not the role of the federal government, but they are issues for other levels of government. Our goals and talking points need to reflect the unity of our purpose and show that the characterization of the CFL as a bunch of nutjobs could not be farther from the truth. |

tobismom Nashville, TN | One of the things we learned in 1994, you can't spot someone 30,000 votes and hope to win an election. There are some disadvantaged areas in Nashville that have remained Democratic strongholds. Community service would be a way for us to move into those areas, meet some needs, and have some visibility. One guy wearing a Ron Paul shirt might go feed the homeless, and good for him. But if a team of DCRP folks show up to do the same thing, or if we staff a water station at the Music City Marathon, well, that puts some faces on it. There's a fine line between 501c/3 status and political involvement, but I think we can work something out. |

illuminati hater Las Vegas, NV | "Collins’ habit of stating his mind while holding a party office had violated the organization’s bylaws."
I didn't know the 1st amendment was such a problem for your co-workers, Matt.
"Collins was cited for behaviors not supportive of the Republican platform."
Is anyone in your party familiar with the origins of the ideals that they stand for? |

Carl Wicklander Nashville, IL | Something tells me that if a party vice president had "slammed" Ron Paul, nothing like this would be happening. |

Why is Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker against monetary transparency?

Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker has introduced a bill to audit the Federal Reserve. At first glance this might seem like a step in the right direction, except that he is behind the curve because there is already a bill in the US Senate to audit the Federal Reserve. It's called The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009 or S604. Its counterpart is HR1207 which already has significant grassroots and Congressional support with 303 and 30 sponsors in the House and Senate respectively.
What is wrong with simply co-sponsoring the pre-existing S604 bill that calls for a full audit of the Federal Reserve system?
The bill that Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker has introduced is a watered down and neutered version of S604. His bill allows for an audit of TARP and other bailouts (which by the way he voted for) but unlike S604 his bill does not allow for a full audit of the Federal Reserve, particularly it's inflation of the money supply or its agreements with other foreign central banks. The value of our currency is at the hands of the Federal Reserve and to turn a blind eye to what the Fed is doing under the cover of secrecy and darkness is both irresponsible and dangerous.
So the question becomes why Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker is so eager to compromise on an audit of the Federal Reserve? Why is Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker against monetary transparency? What's he trying to hide? Who is he trying to protect?
It is interesting to note that some of Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker's top contributors consist of PACs and employees from the following companies:
UBS/AG Merrill Lynch Regions Financial First TN Bank
Also worth pointing out that the financial / insurance sector was the largest of all the sectors giving to Senator "Bailout-Bob" Corker's campaign at $3 million; again no relation to his position is implied. See http://www.opensecrets.org for more details on who is backing Sen Corker and others.
You may consider contacting Senator Corker's office and asking these questions. The assistant to Senator Corker's Chief of Staff can be reached at: hallie_williams@corker.senate.gov
Or you can call his office at this link- http://corker.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ContactInformation.StaffDir ectory
And officially the Campaign for Liberty issued a press release on this today: http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS232687+20-Oct-2009+BW20091 020
Also relevant to the back story are my two previous posts relating to Senator "Bailout Bob" Corker's views on the unconstitutional Federal Reserve:
Senator Corker (R-TN): "Federal Reserve should remain independent" and Has Senator Corker Actually Read the US Constitution?
