It all begins with one... or TWO! I attended the Prague Meetup group yesterday - it seems to have essentially ceased to meet since mid-2008. There is reason to believe that we can revitalize this group and return it to relevance. I suspect that this will be a similar story throughout the non-US Ron Paul groups.

I will keep you informed. You can also follow the group /see a photo from the meetup ... All ideas welcome!

In February 2009 President Vaclav Klaus proposes to the European Parliament that a governing structure that ignores the special circumstances or preferences of the individual members - that stand opposed to the Federal consensus - is a weakness. Rather than hear his ideas out, a large number of the consensus - walked out. President Klaus continues to receive vocal praise and criticism for his statements on the parliament floor in Europe and at home.

'A propos first weblog post! Fantastic! Congrats my friend on the new position. I am thinking my local group could write a letter of support to Mr. Klaus in his efforts towards liberty and free markets that we could possibly deliver while I am in Prague. I will e-mail you to discuss.

Man I feel bad for you Europeans. Freedom is dying in Europe being replaced with the chains of Big Government and Social Democracy. Is the European Parliament even elected? So few people having so much power...not good. Why do Europeans not like bottom-up gov't, state's rights, and decentralized power?

I just found out that the Obama administration has begun a weekly internet broadcast to inform Americans on the activities of his administration in the making leading up to the inauguration. His delivery is dignified, professional and a welcome change from the less articulate communications of the sitting President. Unfortunately, it appears as though  his delivery lacks substance. Here is a link to the article and the video clip. Once you have reviewed them – please read on. I promise I will surprise you. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16258.html

The Obama administration like all administrations since Gerald Ford aims to increase its control over the States and its citizens to further entrench a strong Federal presidency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution Few recall from school that the Federal government was created by the States with extraordinarily weak powers -  in fact, its only real power lay in determining what measures to use (pounds versus kilograms), international representation (primarily border- or trade-related) and territorial defense (just the continental US – Alaska and Hawaii were not around then). Significantly, the federal government was not authorized to issue a currency – the colonists had had enough of English paper money; rather goods and services would be redeemable in an indestructible bullion currency of gold, silver and commodities. (There is a wealth of information relating to the intent of the framers in the Federalist Papers http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/ and Anti-Federalist papers http://www.wepin.com/articles/afp/index.htm ).

Since this time the Federal Government seized / obtained the acquiescence of the States and ordinary citizens to legalize the establishment of a banking cartel in the United States and gave the Federal Reserve the monopoly right to issue short-term promissory notes - loans known as the US dollar for short. In return, the US would be able to borrow money printed by the Federal Reserve whenever it needed money to fund projects it could not fund through taxation. It pays interest on all money in circulation to the private Federal Reserve Bank. (Same status as the Post Office, except that DHL and others are allowed to compete against it).

The Federal Government also seized the right to tax the income of taxpayers – categorically prohibited in the Constitution prior to the 16th amendment
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constituti
on
  – and began offering “services” directly to citizens, effectively bypassing the States which gave birth to the United States. This enabled the Federal Government to take money from citizens in, for example, Maine as it underwent a boom in development and redistribute it to citizens in Tennessee and other states requiring new infrastructure. In doing so, valuable investments of importance to Mainers were not made.

Whenever the Federal Government (or any government) promises to provide services, or money, or guarantees of any kind, it must take those very same articles AWAY from someone else. If it is money, it can also BORROW it from the Federal Reserve.  Thus, by ASKING or EXPECTING a Government to provide services (Healthcare, education, job retraining, mortgages, etc.) to you, you also give that government CONTROL over you. What happens is that your income is redirected to Washington where a NATIONAL majority of representatives and senators are permitted to prioritize the needs of a single STATE against the needs of ALL States. This tyranny of the majority eats the fruits of the minorities. (Direct representation was not intended by the framers exactly because of this – it became possible only after passage of the 17th Amendment and it opened the doors of influence to national lobbyists that would never have been able to economically pressure the thousands of various state senators and congresspeople.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventeenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitu
tion
)

President-elect Obama in this address is promising investments into schools, technology, internet, roads and bridges. He will not be able to tax Americans further – especially as the recently-confirmed recession begin to wipe out incomes. He will need to borrow it from the Federal Reserve (by printing more money), which enables a private cartel of companies to acquire greater control of the assets of the US, or borrow it from foreigners. In the last 10 years, the Chinese and Japanese have been kind enough to buy US securities in order to secure continued access to the US markets – knowing them money will return home. But with Americans buying lots less, with banks increasingly unwilling to lend to deadbeat consumers, countries are increasingly unwilling to lend to deadbeat countries.

Did you notice that Obama does not speak about what he will cut to finance these new programs? Do you recall that the national debt has nearly doubled in the last year? (That means that in order to climb out of debt we need to spend even less than we do now, so new programs need to be offset by more than equivalent cuts.) Federal entitlement programs that move money from Your State to other States and foreign military programs are the only significant sources of potential reduction.  Where is the fiscal responsibility of the Administration-elect here?

And I need to ask these questions

- after forty years of continuously falling education scores, who believes the US Federal Government is really able to do a better job at educating our children than the States, teachers, parents, the private sector?

- after at least twenty years of active engagement in health care does anyone really believe healthcare today is better than it was before? Fact is, no Federal involvement will spell massively-lower health care.

- do you really understand how fast the US Federal government is taking over our way of life? All of the income taxes collected in 2007 are ONLY enough to cover the INCREASE in the Federal budget since about 2000. In other words, were we to roll back the programs of the Federal government back to circa 2000, all of the income tax collected by the government could be put to profitable uses: reduction in debt, investment in social security, etc.

I urge you to check out www.campaignforliberty.com and start reading like you have not done since school. Here is the link to the library: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/education.php Read the simpler articles about Austrian economics and understand immediately why both the republicans and Democrats today are reading from the same wrong playbook. Read the constitution or some of the articles about the intent of the framers – WHY they sought a stronger State government over a weaker Federal government.  I guarantee one hour of this reading will start you asking questions of yourself and other that you never once before considered. You might even feel a bit like Neo after he discovered What is the Matrix? ;) by all means, feel free to pass this on to others – it is less important that we agree on the details than we explore the details.

By the way, the Lincoln County News should be publishing a letter to the editor in the coming week in the print and online (http://www.mainelincolncountynews.com/)  editions. The topic is a supporting response to a recent editorial by LCN editor Sherwood Olin

Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. (born 1 July 1944, Boston), widely known as Lew Rockwell, is an American libertarian political commentator, activist, proponent of the Austrian School of economics, and president of the Ludwig von Mises Institute. He was Ron Paul's congressional chief of staff from 1978 to 1982. (Wikipedia).

Tune in to his podcasts - I heard Ron Paul note in an interview he checks Lew's site each morning ... it is worth it. Today's interview is with Naomi Wolf, a long-time liberal democrat-turning-libertarian. Is an ideal podcast for people - especially liberals -  that are questioning what is liberty. Fascinating. I have to second your suggestion. I have been running out of other good sources for my morning and night ritual of quenching my growing thirst for knowledge and so I have been visiting lewrockwell.com more as there is such good reading there every day by some great authors on various subjects.

But this morning I listened to the podcast interview of Naomi Wolf. Its like only the second or third podcast I've ever heard from his site (the first 2 were probably Ron Paul interviews). I also didn't know who Naomi Wolf was prior to the interview. So I'm listening to the interview and it just was so GOOD. Naomi Wolf is a progressive or intellectual from the Left who is very interested in her new found understanding of Libertarianism and was so enthralled in the concepts of it that she soon was interviewing Lew Rockwell! She asked such astute questions about the philosophy and about what practical steps can be taken as a student of the philosophy into real change for real problems.

And Lew Rockwell is such a good educator and communicator he was just fantastic. I appreciate the interview so much for the uniqueness of hearing someone going through the study of new ideas that make sense, much like many of us have done in the last year and a half. And it is unique in that it is a well meaning progressive from which so many fall victim to the solutions of Obama and big government and nanny state.

I should add that Naomi Wolf has two interesting books out about the needed revolution of ideas and taking back our power before the fall.

I was inspired to make a donation to the LewRockwell site and so I did make a recurring donation per month based on this one interview. Lew is doing such great work as an educator.
