The LA Times online has a recent short article regarding Ron Paul and his efforts to Audit the Federal Reserve, and how the bill (HR 1207) is being gutted:
Paul, who ran for president last year, wants the Fed to open the door on all of its secret transactions -- the talks with foreign banks, the deliberations on monetary policy, the activities of the Open Market Committee, and the communications with the regional reserve banks.
In the shadows of Wall Street's collapse last year, he has attracted more 300 co-sponsors, including 130 Democrats.
But this week, he charged, the provision was gutted from the landmark financial reform legislation being marked up by Barney Frank's Financial Services Committee. Paul blamed the chair of the subcommittee on monetary policy, North Carolina Democrat Mel Watt, whose Charlotte district is home to the headquarters of Bank of America, the nation's largest commercial bank.
Today on a local Los Angeles public radio station (KPCC), Representative Ron Paul and Senator Bernie Sanders were interviewed about their efforts to audit the Federal Reserve in Congress.
The program host, Pat Morrison, took some callers who had questions for Rep. Paul. The interviews were good except for a few distractions regarding the health care issue and questioning Obama's birthplace.
Dr. Paul gave excellent on point responses to all the questions thrown his way in this interview. Especially w/ the last question coming out of right field.
In my opinion, and sorry it is off topic, but the president is the commander in cheif, and his general in the war theater has requested more troops for almost a month and a half. The president hasn't even bothered to talk to his general, let alone answer his request. To my way of thinking, that is derelection of duty. Now, I agree with Dr. Paul, our military belongs here, defending our soil, not all over the world, but we have troops that are already committed to this war and we need a president that is going to act swiftly to insure that our soldiers have what they need to do their jobs, or bring them home. Right now, we are letting our own men and women die. Just my opinion.
Something I rarely hear from anyone is the issue of outsourcing. After dealing with Whirlpool's non existant customer service,a rekindled thought struck me. This administration and all the ones before try and do in many instances, impose government regulation on businesses, yet one of the only types of regulation that would make sense isn't ever talked about, let alone implemented. I am talking about outsourcing. American companies that hire foreign employees to answer their customer service calls, and do your taxes. In a time when we have millions of Americans that are out of work, no one has mentioned these companies that make their profits here from American consumers, and then send jobs to foriegn countries. Every American company that has moved it's factory in order to hire cheap foreign labor and then send the product back here for American consumption should be taxed with a heavy import tax, whether it is on the product or the labor.Think of the jobs that have been lost to American workers. Right now especially we need every job we can get.
The problem with some Americans is they fail to cop-a-clue
on withdrawal from the theatre of war in Iraq or Afghanistan.
It's rather simple. However long it takes for cargo ships to steam to the theatre and start loading up on heavy armour and equipment. Planes to load up on soldiers and light armour to bring back to the U.S.
It's real simple if the U.S. can withdraw from Iraq & Afghanistan they can start withdrawing from the 120 countries they have military missions in.
What could a sane U.S. gov't do with the extra money it saved in closing military missions?
I fail to sympathize with lefties who try and argue salvation through an omnibus gov't.
Why would you support a gov't that continually uses monetary subterfuge to create an anaemic middle class while favoring crony companies that set up shop in countries that don't have liberal trade policies with the U.S. with tax and tariff ?
The rule should be:
Free trade for those that trade freely, often & fairly.
Barriers against business manufacturing in the U.S. should stop.

While driving today I heard NPR's program Weekend All Things Considered, which featured an interview of Ron Paul by Guy Raz. During the 8.5 minute interview Ron Paul is questioned regarding his view on government intervention in reforming health care and his new book End The Fed (in bookstores now!).
A quote from the interview:
This whole idea that anybody that already has a condition can demand insurance is sort of like saying, well, your house is burning down, and you go to the insurance and say, "Hey my house is on fire. Can I buy insurance?" Everybody knows it doesn't work that way.
Kudo's to the program for interviewing Ron Paul! I know the media often doesn't give us a fair shake, but when they give us some attention let's be sure to say thanks and to encourage them to keep it coming!
Poll: Which mainstream news media do you follow the most?
CNN and MSNBC are just plain bad. They completely ignore some issues and always offer poor conservative viewpoints. Fox is more open to libertarian ideology. Fair and balanced? absolutely not. It's easy too see why liberals hate fox, but from a neutral perspective not everything that comes out of O'Reilly's and Hannity's mouth is stupid, at least when they're not talking foreign policy.
"This whole idea that anybody that already has a condition can demand insurance is sort of like saying, well, your house is burning down, and you go to the insurance and say, "Hey my house is on fire. Can I buy insurance?" Everybody knows it doesn't work that way. And we here on the coast in Texas, if there's a hurricane in the Gulf, we can't go out and buy insurance. Otherwise, the insurance companies would all go broke and the government would have to bail them out. So you have to — once again — think about insurance if you want better care and cheaper care and more care for more people, you have to look to the market for the distributions."
I agree, but a real problem is that if you buy your own insurance and have been treated for a health condition and want to move to another state, you may not be able to buy insurance after you move because of your pre-existing condition, and if you can buy insurance your pre-existing condition won't be covered. Even if you stay with the same health insurance company, a new policy will be issued to you in the state you to which you move, and pre-existing condition restrictions apply.
Privatise the BBC! Argh, I hate having to pay for a far-left media organisation that I don't even watch. Hopefully the coming Conservative government will do the job and end the BBC monopoly on the media here in Britain.
While Ron Paul was running for President I was watching MSNBC almost exclusively, but as soon as Obama won, MSNBC started ass kissing to a tune that made me sick to my stomach.
Fox, the evil network in my mind up until the election, suddenly started sounding like decent conservatives.
Plus, the Judge is on Fox and I like Cody on Fox Business' Happy Hour.
I find myself watching Fox Business most of the time.
Fox has been OK since they toned down their pandering to the military industrial complex... it has now become Obama's war and the liberal networks now think it is wonderful to send more troops into the region.
I usually listen to NPR but almost turned it off when they kept going on about Obama's press conferences. I'm glad I didn't because it was a great interview. So far I'm enjoying End the Fed.
What part of "General Welfare" don't you understand? How can the General Welfare of the people be served when more people die from lack of medical care than from drunk drivers? We can take money out of people's pay checks to murder in the middle east but not for antibiotics that will save an American life? Have you no compassion for humanity?

Time magazine has a regular feature where a prominent figure is asked 10 questions that are submitted by readers. In this interview (and subsequent upcoming publication) Ron Paul is asked various questions regarding auditing the Federal Reserve, the 2008 primaries, conspiracy theorists, the income tax, and more.
Check it out:
Be sure to visit the video on YouTube and rate it 5 stars so it gains popularity!
Why do they have to bring up conspiracy theories in this interview? It seems out of place. The way he answered the question was good, but the whole conspiracy theory thing draws a bad connotation, IMO. Would they ask Obama that question?
At first I almost voted for the warfare comment since the immediate result would be less money spent and more prosperity here at home. While this is a great and noble idea, the long term affect of a FED audit would reap the same rewards. Bringing the troops home and easing our monetary problems by saving those trillions would probly ease our minds and lessen the intense pressure we have on congress over the FED issue. If I were a gambling man, I would lay money on the administration doing a major overhaul on our middle-east involvement if there is any bit of a stronger push against the FED.
Well I'm least concerned about Auditing the FED because that's the one issue I'm actually hopeful about. It seems like there's a pretty good chance this might happen. Other things like income taxes and the war on drugs are a harder sell and I'm not sure people will ever realize how counter productive they are until we can no longer afford to enforce them.
Imagine, folks....
without the FED to finance it, there would be no war on drugs, no war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Kuwait, etc. etc.
Without a "lender of last resort", someone who's able and willing to expand the money supply and raise the debt ceiling, none of this would exist. There would be only you and I, and how much we could produce to compete with the external world.
Now I am not afraid of external world since I came from it, and since this is the the "home of the brave and land of the free" I suspect none of you are afraid either.
For how long we will except bailouts for the failed financial companies before we commit the "run on the banks"? For how long are we suppose to tolerate the excrement from Washington telling us how to live? If we rose tomorrow, I'd stand with you, against all odds. Not just to see my children grow up without the burden of debt, but just to see the sons and daughters of this nation raise up and reclaim what's theirs once more.
This is your time...take it. It won't be offered any time soon.

I would like to have heard the whole thing - especially what they cut out. RP was cut off an number of times. When a company like Time interviews and edits for a short format like this, you risk getting a hit job in the guise of balance.
That's very true kentcon - I'm surprised at how good it did come out though and I liked the conciseness and quickness of it all though.
Also, regarding conspiracy theories, the whole conspiracy thing is overblown. Of course there's conspiracies all over the place, good ones and bad ones. When I meet with my friends to start a YAL group on my campus so that we can bring more people in to our cause we're conspiring for the good. When the United Nations conspires to disarm the people, when the Trilateral Commision conspires to promote regional and global government, when David Rockefeller conspires with people from the UN, TC, Bilderberg and CFR for global governance and other terrible things it is conspiring for the bad. The thing is, because these conspiracies aren't truly investigated and the findings bought before all the people via the mainstream media, people think those who do investigate them and believe in them are whacky, when there is proof of what they're doing. Like Ron Paul said, there is a conspiracy of bad ideas - from depopulation, eugenics and environmentalism to the Federal Reserve.

Robert Kiyosaki, a well-respected investor, commentator, and author, has been a long-time critic of the Federal Reserve. In this neat video, Kiyosaki and author Michael Maloney discuss the U.S. money supply, inflation, and the advantages of gold and silver.
In the video Kiyosaki has a great quote, that many of us would agree with:
"Every fiat currency, everything that has been printed, ultimately goes to its true value, which is zero."
If you haven't read any of Kiyosaki's material, I encourage you to pick up one of his books.
Yup, he's big on gold and silver, especially as a hedge against inflation. In his books he's blatantly talked about our money simply being paper and worthless ever since we've been taken off the gold standard. He's also publicly agreed with Ron Paul's ideology, however didn't directly support him for President in 2008.
"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
—Thomas Jefferson
