Andrew Napolitano: Health Care Bill Will Destroy American Liberty

The great judge writes at FoxNews.com about the bipartsian attack on health freedom:

Congress recognizes no limits on its power. It doesn't care about the Constitution, it doesn't care about your inalienable rights. If this health care bill becomes law, America, life as you have known it, freedom as you have exercised it and privacy as you have enjoyed it will cease to be.

Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on a 2,000 page bill to give the federal government the power to micromanage the health care of every single American. The bill will no doubt pass. It will raise your taxes, steal your freedom, invade your privacy, and ration your health care. Even the Republicans have introduced their version of Obamacare Lite. It, too, if passed, will compel employers to provide coverage, bribe the states to change their court rules, and tell insurance companies whom to insure.

Just When You Thought Pelosi-Care Couldn't Get Worse

The Wall Street Journal reports that the health bill will partially remove indexing for price inflation.  As usual, the tax is geared against so-called "rich" citizens:

The tax would begin in 2011 on income above $500,000 for singles and $1 million for joint filers. Assuming a 4% annual inflation rate over the next decade, that $500,000 for an individual tax filer would hit families with the inflation-adjusted equivalent of an income of about $335,000 by 2020. After 20 years without indexing, the surcharge threshold would be roughly $250,000...

As we can see, due to the government's slow destruction of the monetary unit, entrepreneurs and savers are not only being ripped off by the printing press, they are being stealthily pushed into higher tax brackets for unreal gains in their income (thanks, Mr. Bernanke).  The tax will also be applied to small business:

As for the business payroll penalty, it is imposed on a sliding scale beginning at a 2% rate for firms with payrolls of $500,000 and rising to 8% on firms with payrolls above $750,000. But those amounts are also not indexed for inflation, so again assuming a 4% average inflation rate in 10 years this range would hit payrolls between $335,000 and $510,000 in today's dollars. Note that in pitching this "pay or play" tax today, Democrats claim that most small businesses would be exempt. But because it isn't indexed, this tax will whack more and more businesses every year. The sales pitch is pure deception...

Even if you are for the further nationalization and cartelization of health care, please help us oppose this bill as it will undoubtedly trap more Middle-Americans in a ridiculously unreasonable tax situation that will damage their lives and ability to get by in the government's latest disaster: the economy.

Last Chance to Stop PelosiCare

House Democrat leadership is planning to ram its 1,900-page complete government takeover of health care through Congress with a vote this Saturday at 6 pm eastern.

But many Democrats are hesitant to support the plan after Tuesday's election results. With every passing day, they are growing more worried about facing the wrath of angry constituents back home.

You and I can take advantage of their doubts to stop the Pelosi Plan in the House, but only if we act quickly and make it clear where we stand.

Click here to get contact information for your representative and urge him to stand up for the American people by opposing the forced insurance mandate, higher taxes, and red tape contained in the Pelosi Plan.

And if the vote takes place Saturday night as scheduled, they will be in their offices all that day. So keep the calls going on Saturday!

There is a real alternative to yielding more power over our lives to Washington: implementing a plan centered on freedom, choice, and faith in the American taxpayers that they know how to spend their money better than some unelected bureaucrat.

That's why Campaign for Liberty has launched www.OperationHealthFreedom.com.

This new website highlights our Health Freedom Plan, features videos from Judge Napolitano, Rand Paul, Peter Schiff, and more, and gives you contact information for your representative, along with a sample letter to Congress.

The same government that has piled up trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is not going to fix our health care system with more intervention.

It's time to send Congress a clear message: get out of our health care!

Update: Current reports indicate the vote could be moved to early next week! The pressure is working!  Keep those calls going.

As part of our Operation Health Freedom series, British MEP Daniel Hannan talks about the National Health Service (NHS), England's publicly-funded health care system, and looks at why it is so difficult to reform such a system once people get used to it.

Another Chance to Defend our Liberty: Saturday 1:00 p.m. at the US Capitol

Update: Congressman Steve King invites those opposed to the current 1,990 page health care "reform" plan to make a second "House Call" on Capital Hill. If you want to make your voice heard on this issue show up at the US Capitol at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7.

Protestors gather in front of the US Capitol before visiting their Representatives.

Earlier this week, on Thursday, anger drove thousands of citizens, including Campaign for Liberty supporters, to show up on Capitol Hill. Their fury stems from a 1,990 page "comprehensive health reform" bill that strips away patient rights and plunges taxpayers into another federal financial fiasco.

The backlash from constituents comes as the House of Representatives gears up to vote on the monstrosity. Protestors are fighting to protect the physical and financial health of themselves, their parents, and their children.

Lines of constituents waiting to make a "house call" on his or her Congressional Representative wrapped around all three House office buildings. The angst generated by this persistent, yet mostly polite, crowd of voters was all over the faces of Congressional staffers who darted past the long lines.

Estimates of the protest attendance range from 20,000, reported by Fox News, to the "thousands" mentioned by the  Washington Post. News reports from the hours following the event may persuade protestors that their effort had little impact. After all, the response of those pushing this legislation seems to dismiss the sheer magnitude of what happened on Capitol Hill.

ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper reported on how White House press secretary Robert Gibbs responded to news of the march. Gibbs said that protesting is "well within your constitutionally protected rights in this representative democracy." However he seemed determined to overlook the significance of the protestors' message adding, "If you were a representative in that democracy, it might also be good to have a solution that addresses some of those problems."

In reality Campaign for Liberty has a free market solution that would truly resolve the health care problems Gibbs referenced. Our strategy also protects the country from a myriad of problems contained in the current "reform" plan. We recently launched the website www.operationhealthfreedom.com which defines what true health care reform looks like. Perhaps what really gives power players heartburn is that we do have a plan-and our plan protects your freedom.

Many of you responded to the current outrageous "reform" plan by marching into your representative's office, calling, mailing letters, and signing petitions. That sends a critical message to our Representatives: their future in office may depend on whether they choose to protect our freedom.

Thank you for your effort and keep up the good work.

My eyes are forever opened - My story, briefly

Let me start by saying, I am in this for the long haul. I learned very quickly upon getting involved politically, that one must look at the big picture. Goals will not be achieved overnight, but this is not to say that goals will not be achieved. Through the hard work of every concerned citizen, we will accomplish our goals. What are those goals? to oversimplify it, they are to return the Federal Government of the United States back toward principles of Individual Liberty, Constitutional Government, Sound Money, Free Markets, and a foreign policy of Armed Neutrality (noninterventionist). Once this is done, States and localities will begin to pick up their proper roles again, and we can focus our efforts where they belong - at home, where it most affects us. This can only be completed if you and I educate ourselves and begin to tell others what we have learned. No one is going to do this for us, or even tell us where to start. That is why I am taking the initiative, and asking you to do the same. Together and with the help of Campaign for Liberty, we will help America find her way back to the principles that have made her great.

Like many other people involved in this effort, I was unengaged in politics prior to the 2008 Presidential elections. Although I have always voted since becoming eligible to do so, I never took the time to fully understand the issues facing our country. Besides occasionally listening to some talk radio, or picking up a local newspaper, I had few sources of information. Because of that, I followed those around me, many of whom where just as blind to the truth as I was. Blind leading the blind is a good way to describe the actions of many American's when it comes to politics. November 4, 2008 changed all that. I knew something was wrong with what I was hearing out of the mouths of both candidates vying for my vote. Every speech left me thinking "did he even say anything just now?". That sour taste in my mouth led me to seek out additional and better information. I bought a copy of "The Revolution - A Manifesto". Honestly I bought it because the cover caught my eye, and the synopses on the back sounded like it may be something worth reading. Despite not knowing who Ron Paul was, or having any recommendation to read the book, I did. "the red pill" is what I like to call that book. The pill that will awaken you from an unconscious stupor, and let you see America for what it truly is. Prior to reading that book, I don't know when the last time was that I really thought about Freedom and Liberty. Those were words on our money and in our pledge and stuff, but what did it mean to me? Now, I can't get those words off my mind. Everywhere I look, I see something that impedes my freedom, or Someone who doesn't care to defend their own. My eyes are forever opened.

Operation Health Freedom Website Launched

Washington, D.C., November 5, 2009 - Today, House Republicans are holding a press conference in front of a rallying crowd to oppose the Democrat's health reform plan introduced late last week. Campaign for Liberty, which announced its support for an alternative to the Democrat health reform plan last week as well, is also launching a new project and website to promote its proposal.

The project, Operation Health Freedom (http://www.OperationHealthFreedom.com), boasts a site which gives visitors information on the legislation and on how to contact their representatives in Congress to urge them to support this alternative health reform package.

"Campaign for Liberty is proposing that Congress try passing legislation that promotes true health freedom," said John Tate, President of Campaign for Liberty. "The same government that has given us trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is not going to fix our health care system with this latest bureaucratic scheme. It's time to vote health freedom."

The Operation Health Freedom package includes legislation introduced by Congressman Ron Paul. The cornerstone of the package is H.R. 1495, the Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act of 2009, which provides all Americans with a tax credit for 100% of health care expenses, a tax credit for premiums for high-deductible insurance policies connected with a Health Savings Account (HSA), and allows seniors to use funds in an HSA to pay for a medigap policy.  In addition, it makes all medical expenses tax deductible.

Also included are H.R. 2629, a bill that prevents the government from requiring people to purchase health insurance, and H.R. 3217, introduced by Congressman John Shadegg, which permits the purchase of health insurance across state lines and will ultimately lower costs due to the resulting competition.
