Bailout Update

It looks like a vote on the bailout could be taken in the House between 7 and 8 eastern tonight.  However, it appears to be encountering problems in the Senate.

MSNBC has a copy of the bill available here.

Keep calling and writing (suggested letters are here).  It's very possible the bill could be rejected in the House if there is widespread uncertainty about its future in the Senate.  Legislators who would otherwise cave to the pressure to vote for the bill may be encouraged to stick to their guns and vote against the bailout.

I just heard a 5-second clip of Ron Paul speaking against the bailout on a Fox radio break. Where's the rest?

committment is spelled commitment.

it is incorrect in the Republican letter (probably the Democrat one too).

I would like to suggest there is another target besides one's representatives for a letter writing campaign. Specifically the three auto makers themselves. Unlike the banking bail out there are only three companies involved here, so the consumer has many choices apart from them.

The other part to this is that the auto makers themselves can turn it down. The question to confont the auto makers with is why would anyone be predisposed to purchase their products after having one's pocket picked on their behalf.

Just my $0.02

How did Sec 19 (c) get in there (cost of living increase in salaries for judges)? Innocuous, but still...
So, Ford is opting out? Are they going to take the high road and file for bankruptcy?

Funny how the Senate INCREASED the Bank bailout and passed it generally without a hitch. This bailout is for 1% of the prior, but it is encountering problems.
Shouldn't they all encounter problems?
I speculate that the Big 3 didn't contribute enough PAC funds to the Senators compared to the Banks. I'm from Illinois where you gotta "pay-to-play", so this makes sense to me

I just emailed my congressman, Paul Hodes, who voted against the bailout both times. I tried to message the other district's congresswoman, but got the message back that she couldn't reply since I wasn't in her district. This is a change, since I sent her an email for the big bailout and it went through okay. Maybe they're getting tired of having their servers "fried". So I hope you 783 members in NH who are in Carol Shea-Porter's district all send her the message.
Since both republican senators from NH voted for the bailout, I will have to revise my message somewhat before emailing them.

I must say Ron Paul's statement was spot on. We are heading down the way of Iceland at this rate of bailouts.

No, it only passed in the House. It can still be stopped in the Senate.

well by Congress I meant House... I know Congress applies to both the House and Senate, but it can be used to refer to just the House.
