July deadliest month in Afghanistan
As the conflict in Afghanistan continues to drag on, it seems each month is deadlier than the last for the armed forces. The AP reports three soldiers died in blasts in Afghanistan bringing the total for the month to 63 US troops, surpassing last months high of 60. Last month had also been the deadliest for international forces with 104 deaths. How many more must die to save face in Afghanistan?

A Vacation At Gitmo Dallas, TX | To quote U.S. Marine Major General Smedley Butler, "War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."
War is a racket. End the wars, end the empire, and bring all of the troops home for strategic defense, not aggressive offensive campaigns and nation building. |

Willij4lib Everett, WA | That is a lot of people in a month and I hate looking at this as some statistic because these are lives, people who breathe with the ability to contribute to society. What a waist of a life so a few can collect their monetary surpluses at the expense of us all but for more those that had to give up their lives.
When this is as smart as we have become then we have yet become.
Knowledge only grows from giving and not from taking.
