Recently, Judge Napolitano interviewed economist Walter E. Williams on Freedom Watch concerning efforts to increase the surveillance state and the costs to liberty involved.

Great exchange, even if it's two choir members preaching to one another. Disagree, though, with Professor Williams' negative perception of America's tolerance of these infringements on our liberties. CFL is picking up steam, and people are becoming more enlightened. It is a long battle, but I feel we are winning.

I think he's speaking more in general terms, as both he and Judge Napolitano recognize the change that's beginning to take place. You're right that it's a long battle, but we're getting stronger every day!
I'm not sure Williams was being as negative as he was being real. He understands the inner workings of big government better than most of us. I think he's trying to convey his sense of urgency of the task at hand.
well, i agree with everything except the smoking thing. i, for one, am glad for smoking laws that prohibit indoor smoking in restaurants/clubs. i just don't want to be inhaling second-hand smoke. that's not me advocating government to regulate a smoker's lifestyle as it is me not wanting to inhale that stuff.
Mr. johnwu, I think you are missing the point. I do not wish to frequent a restaurant or bar that allows smoking either, but at the same time it is none of government's business to decree that there shall be no smoking ANYWHERE, in any public place! This is current law in some jurisdictions. The government has clearly overstepped it's boundaries on this one (and many others)!

The State has a very different opinion of surveillance cameras when they are pointed at their agents.
