How Numb Are The American Faculties?

Freedom is blatantly attacked and a totalitarian 'administration of freedom' is suggested to be handed over to the lying bandits who make up the parasitic political class.

What is the response of the 'free press?' A single lukewarm interview by the media that asks any questions at all!

The overwhelming and irresistable forces of economic equilibrium will do the job of protecting liberty if the slowly awakening citizens do not.

What a joke. The federal gov't sends all our troops overseas to fight wars that aren't even in our national interest, claim it's impossible to build an effective barrier along the border with Mexico, and then proposes to force every American to carry an national ID card. This is some really sick stuff. Law enforcement knows where plenty of illegal aliens are RIGHT NOW but they don't round them up and deport them. Who in their right mind would be stupid enough to buy the argument that if we had ID cards we would know who was illegal and would deport them? This is the most blatent disgusting lie to come out of the Obama administration yet.

If it were not for socialism illegal workers would not be a problem. They have been here for centuries. The national ID nonsense has NOTHING to do with our southern neighbors trespassing.

Well said BillNM. A lot of people are confused as to Ron Paul's position on immigration. The welfare state makes immigration detrimental to the average citizen; immigration alone does not create a detrimental welfare state!

Over here in El Paso, it's a very curious situation. On one hand, there is enormous public pressure on campaigning sheriffs and other reps to simply not enforce immigration laws. This would be a good thing coming from a libertarian like me. On the other hand, the same supporters demand more subsidies (either raw goods, money, or artificial jobs) for nondocumented immigrants living in poor communities. And they have the audacity to wonder why a lot of people think immigration is a bad thing after what they do!

But make no mistake; most everyone, both immigrant and citizen alike, will support the National ID eventually. With the drug war just across the border and the attraction of new government jobs (as if government job growth hasn't been growing here since forever), people will rally for it. If there's anything people here seem to value more than property rights, it's security and wealth.

I suspect the same result will happen across the rest of this country. As the anchorwoman pointed out, people are already content with the requirement of the draconian Drivers License. It's only a matter of time before this law passes.

The only reason there is an illegal immigration problem has to do with the tax system. People are pissed off that an illegal immigrant gets a job because they work for less money and sometimes are paid under the table. Well if you change the tax code and institute the Fair Tax or a national sales tax, it eliminates the problem. EVERYONE pays taxes when they consume under the Fair Tax....therefore the illegal immigration debate becomes much less of a problem. I am not saying to open our borders...sure we need to enforce the border better but, by changing the tax code you eliminate a majority of the problem.

Ah Megan Kelly .. what a disappointment she is turning out to be. Another one sold out to the corporatism.

Weak interview or not, least they are still giving him air time and not interrupting the interview to report about the Oscars after hour fashion trend.....

Smack - I'm not a huge fan of the Fair Tax, but I agree that it would help with the immigration issue.

Bill - You're exactly correct.

The fact of the matter is, illegal immigrants are responding to market forces. Our economy, even in its current state, presents much more opportunity for the average South American than that of their home country. They respond rationally by coming to the United States. So long as this market force remains the same, even a mile high electrified wall will not keep them out.

These threats of fines for business owners, or ridiculous procedures like fingerprint scanning of prospective employees are sold as ways to change this market force. The idea is that by making it harder for illegals to find work, they may prefer staying in their home country. I've got news for everyone though - since we like the McDonald's dollar menu, we don't like to mow our own lawns, and we want $10k bathroom remodels for $8k - its gonna take a hell of a lot more than the threat of a fine or a fingerprint machine to make any real change.

Following this logic, the fingerprint scan is just the beginning. It won't work, so there will have to be something else, then something else, then something else. A fingerprint scan is too much for me. I'd hate to see what comes next.

So, here is my proposal: end the welfare state. Then, nobody will care about citizenship status.

Biometric National Identification cards...This is not a good idea, it will never work. It's not permanent enough. Cards can be lost/stolen/destroyed/duplicated, I wonder if some really smart kid will be able to hack into these things. Definately not going to work. We need something better. Something to put on people to identify them as they file into their work camps. Maybe something with numbers. Maybe on the wrist. I think I remember, decades ago, there was this guy that was in charge in some european country and tried that. He implimented some sort of tattoo tracking system for people. My history is a little rusty, he was a little angry guy, I think it was in the 1940's. Anyone remember who that guy was? How'd his experimental system of cattle branding people work out? Can someone please throw a history book at Senator Schumer already. Make it a thick one.

Al and Justin, I don't know what you're talking about at all. Ron Paul made the points about the National ID card very well. As for Fox News with Megyn Kelly and the like, I am totally done with it. She may be really hot, but she is evil.

A fingerprint ID or something on the card that reads the veins in your hand? WTF?

What if there's a system error or something (be it a card reader error or an error on the part of whoever puts my information in the system in the first place) and I don't show up as a citizen? What are they going to do, ship me off to Mexico?

I believe cops often do that in California (ICE agents deporting Hispanics off to Mexico not realizing that they are US citizens). I read an article filled to the brim with horror stories. I just don't think the government can be trusted with this sort of thing.
