Immigration Debate Renews ID Card Plans
Via The Wall Street Journal:
Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker....

zonraalder East Lansing, MI | lets just get rid of all welfare and special benefits for illegals and make them citizens. Ok, maybe that would be a better idea once the economy gets better. But still. |

Weary Willie Knox, IN | This whole idea blows chunks. Did you notice they would be focusing on teenagers first? They are the easiest to get to fall in line because they are being brainwashed of their rights in the public school system.
I agree with zonraalder to a point. Get rid of the welfare and special benefits for illegals, but do it by sending them back to the country they came from. Illegal is illegal.

zonraalder East Lansing, MI | Well sure it is illegal, but just because it is illegal doesn't mean we should have it stay illegal. Smoking marijuana is illegal(which it shouldn't) not filing your taxes is illegal(which it shouldn't be).... |
Posted 03/09/10 5:08 PM
Weary Willie Knox, IN | Just as you cannot be charged post-facto for a crime so should not immunity from a crime be granted post-facto in this context. It is illegal now and they have committed a crime.
Also, not filing taxes is legal. Most file because they are receiving more money in return. It is not paying the taxes that is illegal. |

Willij4lib Everett, WA | Man it sounds like another bad movie, DO NOT RESIST US!
Like we are supposed to get this imprinted across our foreheads so they may use a bar code reader.
Well I got news, the idiots did not make me and they damn sure are not going to digitize me either. I say they have to be the first ones in line. I am sure it will not go far then now would it.
These elitist pigs need to step down off the high horsy because it is getting real obvious the true intent now isnt it.
You have to be able to control yourself to control others, this would be defined as good control, otherwise it is defined as out of control, as observed. |

Weary Willie Knox, IN | Indeed, daddysteve! They won't give up!
It must be a power-grab because the article said a social security number is comparable! They want a another layer of control.
Their concern is not to fix the social security system. They're concerned with adding more control.
Let's be PC and call it what it is. It's Progressivism, not fascist. Progressives wouldn't admit they are fascists.

Weary Willie Knox, IN | Willij4lib,
It sounds like a bad dream!
We sell ourselves by accepting the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Our Parents sold us when they accepted the Medicare thing.
Our Grandparents sold our parents by accepting the Social Security system.
And our state governments sold our country when they allowed the taxation of income, denied themselves of their representation, and allowed the federal government to hire the Federal Reserve.
The true intent is obvious when you look at the amendments to our Constitution in the 20th century. They are all focused on the government and not on the people, as the Bill of Rights are.
The 14th amendment has been misinterpreted to include corporations, the 17th amendment fundamentally changed the balance of power in our government, the 16th amendment gave the federal government control of the individual and his wage.
For cryin' out loud! The 27th amendment happened right under our noses and we didn't even notice! The 27th amendment to OUR U.S. Constitution automatically gives congress a raise! Every congress gets a raise! Guaranteed by OUR Constitution unless they don't feel they are worthy and vote against it. This amendment was passed when Clinton was president. The amendment process used to pass the 27th amendment contradicts the criticism of an Article V Convention.
The elitist pigs do need to step down because it is getting obvious and it is also getting embarrassing.

T-Paine Waddell, AZ | It seems like to me that the government is pretty determined to get us all licensed and tagged. First it was the threat of terrorism and now they want to reinvent the REAL ID act for illegal immigration. |

ifc69 Midland, MI | When did it become the responsibility of an employer to determine whether a potential employee is here legally or not? Maybe we should give employers access to all of our national databases to help them sort that issue out. They can even help us fight terrorism while we're at it. LOL. |

Weary Willie Knox, IN | I believe Reagan or Carter started insisting that employers become immigration specialists. I remember starting to hand over my social security card with my application for employment. Now I must give my ssn to vendors to get a fishing licence or to get cable tv installed, ect.
Then the government and insurance companies started to insist all employees relinquish their fourth amendment right by being required to sign a form submitting to the extraction and examination of bodily fluids as a condition of employment.
"
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

illuminati hater Las Vegas, NV | I'm against illegal immigration, but I'm also against RealID. If this is a plan to create a national database with all of our records, the government can forget it. |

 T-Paine Waddell, AZ | @W. Willie
I never thought about S.S. being violation of search and seizure laws.
I am beginning to wonder why a private contract between me and my employer is subject to the government's approval by proving I am a citizen in order for it to be executed. |
Posted 03/11/10 3:46 PM
Weary Willie Knox, IN | T-Paine, I'm referring to the drug screening employees are being subjected to. Drug screening is clearly a violation of the fourth amendment, unless the employee signs a waiver and grants permission. However, by not granting this permission the employees have also denied themselves the ability to gain employment. The employer has no qualm with destroying the fourth amendment to get a better deal on their insurance rates.
The employer will also deny a person employment if they do not produce a social security number. It is missunderstood that enrollment in the social security system is manditory. It is not. The impression of a mandate is laid out by the hospital automatically assigning a ssn to a newborn without consultation with the parents. This is also implied consent if the parents do not resist. It is assumed to be manditory because many do not resist.
Most of the laws originating from the 16th amendment are voluntary compliance but are thought to be manditory. I agree with you completely that enrollment and management of your social security is between you and your employer. I agree that government has no business involving itself with it. However, the permission we give our federal government to spend our children's money is clearly embedded in the mindset of those dependent on our children's money. Our parents will go to their grave believing they earned every penny of their social security benefits even though it's return has vastly outgrown the investment. They consider the return on "their" investment a "very good deal" even when it is bankrupting our country.
